Altinkum is rapidly overdeveloping. Power and water cuts twice in one week. Weather and beaches superb. People very friendly. Restaurants reasonable - recommend Pinocchio's Pub on the beach front - 2 courses for 2 people with drinks YTL 55. Day trips from town were excellent. Arranged ours through Oracle (100 metres from end of Ataturk on left). Shopping trip to Soke market and Kusadasi bazaar(YTL 20 each). Stopped at leather and jewellery factories. In all places take the time to discuss and bargain with suppliers. My wife now has a superb leather jacket(YTL 240 - price started at 360). Go for a day trip around the bays. Recommend the "Sunshine" - Ayfer and Erdal Kamaci provide an excellent days excursion for YTL 15. Cars are not needed. Nearly all restaurants will pick you up and drop you back after. Any excursions will pick you and drop you back. Most hotels and villa complexes have courtesy buses to pick you up and drop you into town. If you are driving south do not miss the airport turnoff. The airport is actually 40k north of Bodrum. There is a superb Turkish restaurant in the Total garage on the northbound lane of the D330. About 4k before the airport turnoff - 3 course meal for two with drinks - YTL 35. The family that run the operation only speak Turkish. There is no menu - just whatever dishes they have prepared that day.

We had spinach and cheese done in pastry with side salad to start. Main course was stuffed aubergine and rice, desert was baklava. All dishes were superb.

We came here on a family holiday, it was really hot as it was August but on Oasis it was rather windy, and the bar did have sun brolleys to hire and with a dip in the great big pool or the Jacuzzi, it soon cooled us down.

All the people that stayed there were all so friendly, I suppose it’s because it’s not a big complex so it makes it more friendly and easier to get to know people, especially when most people meet up around the bar area on the quiz, bingo and raffle nights. All the children got to make friends with each other also.

The apartment we rented off a family friend. It was a 2 bedroom and we were all very surprised at how spacious it was, and was just home from home.

We went on a number of trips, boat trip £10 for all day including meal, jeep Safari [very wet] Aqua park [10 mins away] Sirince Village [wine tasting] Ephesus and the local Apollo temple.

They had a free mini bus to take you to town centre and back 3 times a day, this only takes 5 mins and if you want to go to the beach you just phone at reception and a mini bus will pick you up to take you there, GREAT.

The complex is in a quiet local area with a few shops and restaurants very close by and a supermarket just 10mins away. On a Saturday they have a local market which is a 10 minute walk from the apartment.

All in all we had a fab time and would recommend it to anyone that didn’t want a busy hotel and all the noisy entertainment, people that goes with it.

It was our first holiday in Turkey and it turned out to be one of the most expensive holidays we have ever been on.

We enjoyed it so much we decided to buy an apartment in Altinkum.

The apartment complex we stayed in was modern, clean and quiet. Most of them privately owned.

Altinkum is now a thriving holiday resort popular with British holidaymakers.

We made friends with staff at the Penguin bar on Third beach, but then we found that all the Turkish people we met were very friendly and welcoming.

We were lucky with two weeks of total hot sunny weather.

The only down side to the holiday is that Altinkum is just one building site due to the expansion of the holiday home market.

Akbuk is a much smaller town, very peaceful and tranquil area.

We are going back next year to finalise our purchase of the apartment in the third beach area.

Would recommend this area if you are looking for a new holiday home.

See ya for now
