lovely place
we were given a weekend as a present, so would probably not have chosen this hotel normally. it is in a nice village and fairly quiet. the hotel gardens are lovely and the dining rooms are very atmospheric. the food is good, quite rich and traditional. our room was Lily and very sunny, the bedsheets were fabulous but there were tiles about to fall off in the bathroom so could do with some attention. the staff were friendly and let us borrow one of their computers to go on the internet. i also had a facial at the local salon called beauty... more
Romantic getaway and food to die for!
Just returned from night in this wonderful tudor Manor Hotel, and found it incredibly romantic and peaceful. We stayed in the Charles room which was huge with a lovely old high four poster bed. The restaurant was amazing and worth every penny of the £150 for 3 courses plus wine which to some may be expensive but this was a treat. Breakfast was equally excellent. The drawing room is a lovely place to sit in front of the fire after dinner and have coffee and they even have lots of games to play like chess, backgammon and scrabble. I... more
A Romantic Suprise
As a romantic suprise, my boyfriend treated me to a delightful stay and meal at Ockenden Manor. We stayed in the Victoria room, which was a lovely little touch due to it also being my name, as we entered the room there was a gorgeous four poster bed, and the view from the room was absolutely stunning, views of the gardens and of the Sussex Downs. We also had a meal in the Michelin starred restaurant, the food was definitely one of the best meals I'd had, the staff made us feel welcome, and after dinner we were able to relax with coffee in... more
Small but perfectly formed
booked lastminute deal on lastminute.com, had a standard room Timothy, wonderful bathroom although very compact with a slipper bath. Hotel was busy and wonderfully decorated with Christmas trees. We had dinner in the restaurant and William was very charming. Will come back again.
Good and bad
We had an overnight at this Elizabethan character hotel. Setting and surroundings are delighful. The staff were charming, friendly and efficient. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel and dinner was excellent. Our Deluxe Double room - Victoria - was just okay but very overpriced at £260.00 per night. No towelling robes or slippers or 'turn down' service which one would expect at that price and although the room was comfortable it was quite shabby. The en-suite bathroom was a disaster! A Victorian bath that was very awkward... more
A Gem
Stayed here last Friday and Saturday, a well needed break. We had the Hugh room FAB room with bath large enough for 2! and a walk in Shower, I assume it has just been refurbished. Staff were lovely, Dinner was outstanding we can understand why it has a star for the restaurant. The only downside is we had to go home afterwards :-(
Charming Hotel
We stayed at Ockenden Manor as a birthday treat in April 05, what a lovely experience. We were greeted by the friendly manager on arrival and shown straight to our room, Timothy, on the 1st floor. Wood panelled and cosy, it felt like we'd travelled back in time but with all conveniences of the 21st Century. After a soak in the slipper bath (not for those with limited mobility), we headed off to dinner in the Michelin starred restaurant. The service was excellent and the food good, particularly the chocolate tart ! The drawing room... more
Wonderful hotel and superb meal
I can recommend this hotel for its ambiance, service and wonderful food. From the moment we arrive the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. The hotel has a wonderful sense of history and the rooms have great character but also great comfort. The meal I would recommend to anyone and I hope to return in the not too distant future.
Gardens Delight
Just returned from a wonderful weekend on a Garden Break they offer which included borde hill and wakehurst gardens. Stayed in the Hugh room, fab walk in shower and huge bath!, room was comtemporary compared to others in the oldest part of the house. Dinner was everything and more we ate from the Sussex menu and had sussex lamb. It is expensive! I will certainly be going back
Great, but to fast
A great historic house. Ideally situated for any tour of the South Downs. Restaurant excellent, but expensive. 3 set meals available, £35, £45 and £60 but at these prices one would expect the food to be good, and it was, but the service was rushed. Felt like we were being whisked through the courses and in and out of the restaurant as fast as possible. Taken at a leisurely pace dinner would have been more enjoyable and a memorable experince. As it was we left disappointed.
