Moderately priced hotel, in a superb...

Moderately priced hotel, in a superb location. The rooms at the front of the hotel offer great views of the sea, along the coast to Hastings and of the pier.
It is located within a short walk of the town, shops and restaurants. The breakfast choice was limited to continental or English, but the portions were generous and there was a good service provided.
However the bedroom furnishings and decor, whilst being serviceable, were well worn and in need of an update. Hence the low rating.

Whilst the Hotel public areas are OK (not 1st class but acceptable for a 3 star) my sea view room was an absolute disgrace; very dated, in very poor repair and generally unacceptable.
When I spoke to the Manager, whilst his honesty was refreshing (at one point he just said well that’s life!), he basically did not care & just offered to move us to a different Hotel – not an option as the International Tennis Championship was in full flow.
We therefore had no choice other than to put up with the room or upgrade to a £165 per night room (same price as the local 5 star!).
As I felt that this was close to blackmail I decided to put up with the room & cancel our next day’s booking 1st thing in the morning.
He was also completely un-ashamed of charging £99 a night for a room, that to be frank, I would not leave my pet dog in!
Needless to say I will not be using this hotel again & would seriously advise anyone to check on the condition of the room before you book.
