Cavendish Hotel Reviews

I stayed at the Cavendish Hotel in September 2008. The food and service were absolutely excellent. The reception staff were welcoming and very helpful. My room was large and very comfortable, quiet with a partial view of the sea. My caveat is that I booked through a... more

No problems - really helpful staff
from MPRNR
We stayed for two nights in a double room seaview - plenty of space for family (two children under 5) as cot and camp bed provided. Lovely refurbished bathroom with great shower - all very clean with fresh towels supplied each day. Minor cosmetics in bedroom due to poor decorating but not noticable unless you looked - nicer view out of the window! Rooms may be very warm for some people - even with windows open but I like to be cool -wife did not complain! Eating with family at breakfast no problems as staff really helpful but did not attempt dinner as too formal for family. There are lots of nice cafes closeby for dinner, etc. We were staying for a friends wedding and weather poor so cannot comment on Eastbourne as a family resort but local swimming pool was excellent, very cheap and very warm - again!! The hotel is very well located. Beach is not sandy.
Loved It!

We had made reservations for a weekend’s stay at the Cavendish and after reading one of the reviews we were considering canceling, but since most of the reviews were good we decided to go ahead with it. When we arrived at the hotel, we found the staff to be courteous and helpful and we were given a room that was beautiful and perfectly clean, it was obvious that the room had been recently refurbished, and was of a standard higher than we had expected. Out of curiosity we asked if we could see some of the other rooms and found that all the rooms were in very good order. Moreover, after chatting to the staff we were told that the only sister hotel they had in Britain was the Bonnington in London, and no one we spoke to had even heard of the ‘Annex’. Every aspect of the Cavendish was exceptional, and we can’t wait for their new leisure facilities to become operational. We would recommend the Cavendish to anyone without hesitation.
Cavendish was a nightmare
from SurfwriterNZ
When we travelled from New Zealand to the UK to settle my wife's aunt's estate we decided to take a five day break in Eastbourne and stay at the Cavendish Hotel. We booked a room facing the sea through a travel agent in Worecester and paid in advance for a package that included breakfast and dinner. But when we arrived at the hotel we were assigned a room at the rear that overlooked the carpark. In addition, the room was dirty, the bathroom taps were leaking and the window overlooking the carpark would not open and even if it did, the window sill was covered in bird droppings. When we complained we were given the choice of no room at all, or one in an adjacent hotel that was owned by the Cavendish (our "sister" hotel, aka the "annex"). The annex was definitely down market and full of coach tour tourists. The rooms we had were overheated and we had trouble getting the hotel to adjust the wall heaters. On the other hand, we also had trouble closing the windows, so that the noise from the street below made it difficult to sleep. The meals at the annex were also a nightmare of sloppy service and bad food, and not at all what we expected when we booked into what we were assured was a three star hotel. We made the best of this unexpected situation, and since we'd paid in advance we had no come back. But we found the attitude of the Cavendish management and staff to be unhelpful, patronising and unprofessional and I'm glad to have this opportunity to tell other travellers what happened to us as a warning.
Wonderful weekend

Once again, we had a brilliant weekend at the Cavendish, our 3rd weekend in 6 weeks. Rooms are lovely and spacious with a lovely sea view. The breakfast was excellent, a much varied and large selection of everything. Dinner menue although not a lot of selection as they do not do a la carte was lovely and very well presented. The staff are ever so friendly and helpful. Since the refurbishment the entrance is very grand with lovely fresh flowers and the bar area is now very modern which is nice. We tried 6 other large sea front hotels before we tried the Cavendish and we were so disappointed in all the others, accomodation/food/service and they were all more expensive than the Cavendish. Therefore I would highly recommend the Cavandish to everyone, you will not be disappointed.
Nice quiet hotel
from stora
My husband and I stayed last weekend at this hotel and we had a lovely quiet time. We got a discounted room rate as we were attending a Masonic Lodge weekend and we had a nice room ( 309 ) overlooking the sea and the Pier. Two single beds ( not a problem as it was only one night ) and they were really comfortable. Very large room but tiny bathroom and even though it had a nice selection of toiletries there were no flannels !! Tea,coffee and biscuits in room and a nice breakfast in the morning, not a great choice but what there was was cooked nice with fresh toast and hot tea. No one to take the bags up Saturday but it was not a problem as we did not have a lot of luggage but you would have to ask if you had more bags than us. All in all a pleasant stay with no night time noise considering the amount of people in the hotel but a double bed would have been nicer !!
A Great Weekend

I revisited the Cavendish Hotel last month and noticed that it had greatly improved from my last stay. The small reception desk had been extended and moved which made it look very much part of the grand reception itself. As I entered the hotel I was greeted by the friendly reception staff who were quick to check me in and show me to my room and were most helpful throughout my stay. I had a room over looking the band stand and beach which was of a high standard. The bar in the Cavendish had also under gone a face lift bringing it more up to date with leather chairs looking over the channel horizon where I enjoy with a pint of beer after my long drive down from Edinburgh. Overall I had a relaxing weekend and was impressed with the changes the Cavendish had made. I will defiantly be stopping again.
What a disappointment!

We booked a double room in the "executive wing" at £126 per night. When we arrived we had been given a twin in a very ordinary room. We were told that the hotel was full so there was nothing that could be done. No reduction in price either. The bedside lamps didn't work and they were never fixed even though I reported them. Tiles has fallen off the wall in the bathroom and paintwork was shoddy at best. Small things were anoying - coffee and tea in the room had been carefully counted out so that there were only two servings per day. The breakfast was equally poor. Staff were unfriendly and overcooked food was in short supply. On both mornings we had to ask for more food to be brought out. Next time we'll stay at the Travel Inn. Half the price and twice the service.
Cavendish Hotel Restaurant

What a disappointing meal. I went there with my parents and fiance for a meal and the food was awful. What the menu promised and what arrived were rather different. The vegetables were so undercooked that they tasted raw. The staff were very attentive but obviously untrained (handing you bread rolls with their hands) and spoke hardly any English. Quite an expensive meal, I've had far better meals in London and at cheaper prices.
Lovely and peaceful

Hotel with sea views, grand entrance with pleasant seating and bar. Bags taken to room which was airy, clean and spacious. Very quite but then Eastbourne is quiet in general. The restaurant was excellent, traditional at its best. The staff were attentive and helpful. If you fancy a bit of life Brighton is a breath away on the bus or there's loads of local walking if you're looking for fresh air and exercise. Not a hotel for the young and boistrous but a great place for a restful break.
