The hotel looks dreadful from the outside, a real dump, but you will be pleasantly surprised when you go inside. Staff are nice and friendly and the rooms were lovely. Included in the price of the room was a full English breakfast buffet. Parking is bit of a nightmare but... more

I booked my holiday independently and decided to go with my twin to Brighton over the bank holiday weekend. Brighton is a very lovely place, taking the southern train from London Victoria to Brighton station it was a smooth journey of about 1hr45mins. We decided to walk... more

Big name 4 star hotel situated on Brighton Sea front opposite the ruins of one the piers. No apparent ramp for disabled guests to reach doors, little odd these days. To get into hotel after struggling up steps with large bag had to struggle through the smallest revolving... more

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Brighton for 1 night in December 2005 and found the staff unfriendly and downright rude. Be warned, there are lots of extras to pay on top of your initial bill. Car parking is £10 extra and the cost of breakfast which is not on display, is... more

Nice, Thats about it!
Room: What can i say, basic but comfy with is what you need. The reception was good and helpful gave us a business room on a stranded fee. The room was a fear size clean but I would not conceder it to be business class. The bathroom is clean a bit small but nice Location: In a great spot opisite the beach, pier and near to restaurants. The mall is not far away walking distance. There are many hotels near by. Food: We did order once which was ok but a bit pricy. Most times we eat out.

Thank you for taking the time to upload your comments onto this website. We encourage feedback through all channels. We were pleased to read that the bedroom was clean and comfortable for your needs and met with your expecations. Other Hotels which are closer to the city centre are in a higher class of star rating and therefore we believe the Hotel to be the best value for money for a Hotel operating in the mid-market range of Hotels situated on the seafront. I understand that Hotel food & beverage options in general are sometimes expensive. To address this we offer a range of discounted meal & drink promotions throughout the day at different times to enable price sensitive customers the opportunity to experience our service at a reasonable price. Thank you.

Good Value for short stay but don't expect much
We stayed over after the Easter weekend for 2 nights. Staffs were most friendly and helpful during check in and check out.The patio was a nice area to chilled out in the late afternoon. That explains why they only show the picture of the patio in the hotel website. The bar was adequate. The decor of the lobby can be better. It looked tired. I read about the hotel was refurbished in 2006. But they probably only upgraded the sea-front rooms but not the rest. The decor of our room seriously needs refurbishment. There're cigarrete burnt holes on the carpets. The in-room Iron board looks like those used in the 80s. The wardrobe looked like they're from the car boot sales. We paid about 140 poounds over 2 nights so i's not expecting much. However, i won't rank this hotel as 3 star hotels/resorts but a 2 stars really. It's cheap for shoe string budget.

Thank you for your feedback which we take very seriously. We were pleased to read that you enjoyed the Hotels patio area. The Hotel bedrooms have all been refurbished during 2006 with the installation of air conditioning and new bathrooms, however there remain some bedrooms that do need more work than others completed on them. I was disappointed to read that your feedback was not reported to a Manager on Duty 24 Hours a day who could have moved your bedroom allocation to one that met your expectations. Our bar furniture is dated and will be replaced by the end of this year including an entire re-design of the area including the installation of two new flat screen plasma televisions due within the next couple of days. Thank you again for your feedback and your comments have been passed to the General Manager to support his discussions with Holiday Inn to improve the final bedrooms and bar areas.

Good for families
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Brighton over easter weekend, and it was lovely. The room is spacious and they had a camping cot set up (without requesting one) and two double beds. We also had a seaview (without requesting it). As said previously the bathrooms are a bit dated, but everything else makes up for it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We enquired about how to get to the Royal Pavillion at reception, and they gave us two for one tickets to use as well as a map of the area. There is a small play area in reception outside the restaurant, which helped keep the kids busy between courses. And the hotel is right opposite a wonderful play area for kids in Brighton with splash pool, sand pits etc, so the kids also had a wonderful time.

Thank you for your feedback and we were pleased to read how enjoyable your stay was and how convienient you found the Hotels location in respect to other facilities such as the play area. Some of the Hotel bathrooms do need the final stages of refurbishment to be carried out and even though slightly dated they are very clean and fully stocked with complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels. The small amount of bathrooms that are in need of this refurbishment will be taking place shortly to raise them to the same standard as all other bathrooms. Once again thank you for your comments.

Staff are the best. from check in to check out.
Over the last year I've stayed at this hotel three times now. On each visited I've booked the "executive sea view" room, never got the same room twice. Love the rooms, very large and very well fitted out, great bathroom, patio door opens onto the balcony (unfortunately very small and shared) but great to just take in the fantastic views and a breath of air. Staff are the best. from check in to check out. Breakfast is excellent with staff removing instantly any used plates etc (makes you keep going back for more:) IMPORTANT TIP Try to check in early for car parking space (collect a token from reception first, you need this token to enter and nothing to exit, strange but true!) If you drive anything bigger than a micra its a tight squeeze. Staying again in June 07 (enough said)

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments onto this site. We appreciate that a lot our guests view this site before booking and we were pleased to read such positive statements. We were espcially pleased to read about the staff as a recent focus on guest satisfaction is currently underway and comments like these prove that it is working. A note on the balconies, although currently shared, in the next phase of our refurbishment, frosted glass pannels will be fitted between each room making them more private and personal. In relation to the car park, as we only have a limited number of spaces available we do need to control the number of cars entering, hence the reason for the token for entry. As the car park is underneath the Hotel, space is limited but the staff will try their hardest to accommodate any oversized vehicles in additional spaces. We look forward to welcoming you back in June this year.

Superb staff
We live in Brighton and we stayed at this hotel on our return from holiday as the building work at our flat hadn't quite finished and we faced three days with no shower or toilet... I spoke with a very helpful member of the reservations team who confirmed that the internet reservation had been received and that we would be able to check in within the hour, this was at about 10am. He also arranged an upgrade at a reduced rate so that we could enjoy seeing the sea on what was a beautiful sunny day. We have previously stayed at this hotel both whilst it was a Hilton and whilst it's been a Holiday Inn. The staff have always been pretty much faultless. Even when it was clear that Hilton was running the place into the ground they still tried to make sure that guests were happy. Now that the Hilton has sold up and the building has been rebranded to a Holiday Inn there have certainly been some improvements. Both the front entrance and the reception area are much more welcoming, and seem much brighter than previously. Other public areas would probably benefit from a bit of a redesign, the bar is dated and the furniture tired. Some nice touches such as new art on the walls, but a full scale re-furb is what's needed here. Same story in the restaurant a lick of paint has lifted the room a bit but a wholesale refurb is called for. And why is the restaurant still called the Garden Room. If I were the new owners I'd have ditched that immediately. There's no garden to look at (just a small terrace) however it does have a whacking great view of the sea...surely some reference to that would be more appropriate? The seaview room was large and had obviously had some work done on it. New air-conditioning, newly painted walls and a really comfortable new bed. However the rest of the furniture was stuff salvaged from the Hilton days including some very dated furniture in the hallway area that really should have been chucked out. The bathroom had had a bit of a tart up, but the shower cubicle was out of order and I wouldn't say that there had been any significant money spent on the bathroom. Toiletries were of the squeezy soap screwed to the wall type which I think is pretty tight for what is meant to be a superior room in a 4* hotel. Do the little bottles of Neutragena really cost that much more? And wouldn't the standard upgrade of £100 cover that extra cost? Overall the room was perfectly acceptable (and the seaview can't be beaten) but to say that it had been fully refurbished was a little misleading. Chances are we won't stay at the Holiday Inn again now that we live in Brighton, but if I were asked to suggest to friends or family a decent hotel to stay in when visiting Brighton this would certainly be high on the list.
Management response from BHTSF 04 Apr 2007

Thank you for your feedback and I was pleased to read that you decided to stay with the Hotel again and that you had seen some improvements. The extensive 3.5 million pound refurbishment has focused mainly on the bedrooms and where possible we have tried to make small changes to the public areas as you notice which indeed include re-painting areas to make them lighter and more welcoming and removing an old business centre from the lobby. More extensive refurbishment work of the public areas is planned for the future which will include the restaurant & bar lounge areas. It is coincidental that you mention the name of our restaurant as we have recently employed a market research company to carry out some local surveys on what to re-name our restaurant as we understand it does not reflect one of its fantastic features – the uninterrupted views of the beach, sea & horizon. I was disappointed to read that the bedroom and bathroom did not meet your expectations and from the Neutrogena toiletries you mention, we can decipher that you were allocated a King Executive Sea view bedroom. The supplement for this room type is £75.00 (not £100) and for this our guests receive: A king size bed with new “Holidreamer” mattress, mini bar with complimentary juice, water & chocolates, full air conditioning, bath robes, slippers, working desk with lamp and leather chair, two telephones with modem port, free WiFi access, power shower, enhanced toiletries, vanity/shaving mirror and not forgetting the outdoor sea facing balcony with furniture. We have a manager on duty 24 Hours a day and had you reported your shower not working during your stay we would have offered a move to an alternative bedroom or some other compensation to avoid you leaving the Hotel unhappy.

Great location and service
Stayed here with a couple of friends for a long weekend and had a good experience. Highlight of the place is definitely its employees. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful across the board from the front desk to the housekeepers. The room was nothing amazing, but met expectations, was very clean, and spacious enough for the three of us staying in one room. We were not looking for anything more than that on this trip, so it was perfect for us! Also appreciated the morning newspaper! The hotel is well-located on the seafront, just a short walk from the Brighton Centre, Churchill Square, etc. It was also a quick, not too expensive taxi ride from the station when we got in at night with lots of bags. Overall, if you are looking for a good value in Brighton, I highly suggest checking this place out. It's a solid option all around. Just two small negatives in case the manager is still reading these reviews: 1)pillows were like flat rocks; 2) the view from our room (sea to the left, rooftops in front) was somewhat marred by the piles of metal rods and construction materials - perhaps part of the aircon project, but it still made opening the curtains a bit grim!

Thank you for your feedback and we value our guests taking the time to update websites such as this, unprompted. I was especially pleased to read your experiences with our employees as we have recently embarked on a commitment to increase guest satisfaction and this feedback demonstrates that it is working. We aim to offer a good bedroom and Hotel product for the price paid, for a Hotel operating within the mid-market range on the seafront and again I was pleased to read that our accommodation met with your expectations. It is a brand Holiday Inn standard that we offer a “pillow menu” which means that our guests can choose their own pillow type featuring five different types including a soft natural filling and a non-allergenic and I am sure that had you enquired for a different type of pillow, one could have been found to suit your needs more comfortably. It is fair to say that after the amount of extensive refurbishment work the Hotel has undergone there are areas of the Hotel that need to be cleared and I apologise that your bedroom overlooked an area such as this. It does seem that you were allocated one of the Hotels bedrooms on the side of the property which features a sea view at no extra charge unlike other Hotels on the seafront which charge for “side sea view” bedrooms. Further to your comments I have instructed our engineering department to assess these areas and speed up the process of removal of any debris.

a great place to stay
just stayed at the holiday inn for the weekend . i was slightly worried after i had booked and then read some of the previous reviews but the whole experience was fantastic ,the front office staff were friendly, helpful and could not do enough to make sure you had all you needed. on arrival the receptionist suggested an upgrade to a large seaview room which cost another £100 for the weekend but was worth everypenny . the hotel was a little way along the seafront and as i was recovering from an illness we asked the reception to a order a cab which was no problem arrived in a few minutes and only cost £3 to the lanes .the whole hotel was so good we will return in the future .

Thank you for taking the time to add your positive feedback. We understand how influencial a website such as this can be and appreciate all our customers adding their reviews. I have shared your comments with the Hotel management team who in turn will cascade to all levels including the Reception team. We strive to provide excellent customer service on every occassion and have recently reviewed our internal customer service policy so it was a great pleasure to see that this change has been seen by the customer. Since the Hotel completed its 3.5 million pound bedroom refurbishment recently we were also pleased to read that our standard of accommodation also impressed you. The Hotels sea view rooms are very well equipped including air conditioning now too with un interupted views of the sea & horizon. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Hotel soon.

Not as bad as some might say..
Having read some of the other review, we were not looking forward to the stay (booked before i checked!), but hotel was clean and well kept. OK, it is a little tired, but so are many. The car park was an excellent benefit, again a bit shabby but well lit and at £15 for 2 days & 1 night, great value. Its a short walk to the town centre and even side rooms can see the sea, without too much contortion. So its not Drakes or Hotel du Vin, but if you get a good rate, its fine for a convenient break with the family (2 doubles in some rooms).
Management response from BHTSF 06 Feb 2007

Thank you for your feedback and we were encouraged to read that the Hotel exceeded your expecations when you arrived. As mentioned in previous responses the Hotel suffers from being built in the 1970's and there is little we can do to improve the overall look of the external structure. This said however, in the Hotels planned next phase of refurbishement we are upgrading the external fascia's of the building which includes the balconies of the sea view bedrooms. The car park has recently undergone some extensive upgrading mainly by re-painting with a lighter paint on the walls which improves the overall feel to be lighter and more secure.

What a change from Hilton so much better now
I stayed in the hotel last week (january) for a break away and have not been there in a while. In fact not since it changed from Hilton - but I tell you something I was gobsmacked at the transformation as I walked in. The ghastly office on the right has gone, there is a fab funky looking piece of furnitue inthe lobby. The bedrooms have totally changed and I so look forward to rebooking for the summer cos they have air con and so the receptionist told me they will be the only hotel in brighton with full aircon. Restaurant was fairly quiet but the food was fab Love it

Thank you for your feedback and we were pleased to read that you have seen a change in the Hotel since being sold from Hilton. Holiday Inn have invested a great deal into the Hotel and we are always encouraged to read reviews such as these. With all bedrooms & public areas now fully air conditioned and all bedrooms refurbished we are positve that the Hotel offers superb, excellent sized accommodation for the mid-market traveller in Brighton.
