I booked my holiday independently and decided to go with my twin to Brighton over the bank holiday weekend.
Brighton is a very lovely place, taking the southern train from London Victoria to Brighton station it was a smooth journey of about 1hr45mins. We decided to walk from the train station to our hotel accommodation so we can explore the lovely shopping streets of Brighton called the Laines.
The restaurants were very lovely, so many choices of where to eat from Indian, Chinese, European and Caribbean what else could I ask for.
Our accommodation was by the seaside what lovely views. Very friendly staff and breakfast was lovely and fully English.
The city guided tour opened my eyes to the lovely Brighton. royal pavilion, the Brighton dome, individual streets, Southdown’s, and the Brighton marina was a few of the lovely sights of the city guided tour.
There is so much to see and the night life is even livelier. A wide range of bars and clubs to visit. The city was never asleep. Brighton is a lovely city and I’d love to visit again.

Big name 4 star hotel situated on Brighton Sea front opposite the ruins of one the piers.
No apparent ramp for disabled guests to reach doors, little odd these days.
To get into hotel after struggling up steps with large bag had to struggle through the smallest revolving door I have ever seen in a hotel or other commercial premises, there are double doors to either side of this that can be only opened from inside - staff saw me struggling - made eye contact but did nothing to help.
Checking in was well, ok - my partner had booked it in his name and called mins before to make sure ok to check in without him as delayed, desk claimed no knowledge of call.
Room on 5th floor, clean comfortable, but with windows that do not appear to be have been cleaned in months on the outside covered in grime and dirt from traffic and birds.
Room had obviously been painted in recent times but by someone who did not do prep work as paint over melamine wardrobe had peeled away in places due to lack of appropriate primer and in bathroom on ceiling cracked as again wrong paint used.
Also where they had moved - replaced towel rails, old wall plugs visible with filler, not quite what one expects from a 4 star hotel at £157 per night.
With parking an additional £15 per night in a very tight car park built for minis - I feel that the £50 per night travel lodge and travel inn rooms are better.
Tea and coffee making facilities though no mini bar - unusual for 4 star hotel.
No access to car park from hotel for residents -they have to walk outside to get to it (given weather not much fun with luggage) though staff can go through hotel to get to it.
Breakfast good, hot buffet style with some very good coffee. Staff there very friendly and welcoming - perhaps they could teach reception staff a thing or two. Restaurant over looks sea front.
Whilst sitting in reception I saw several people struggle with the revolving doors and luggage being totally ignored by staff, and a woman with push chair suffering the same fate, when ringing the bell to get someone’s attention staff looked up they quickly disappeared rather than open doors for her, other residents including myself did the door opening thing - despite the lobby managers desk facing the door with big can I help sign.
Upon check out, the receptionist did not read the check out forms and charged the wrong card despite telling me faithfully my card was not going to be charged. So we had a bit of a performance sorting that out.
All in all I feel the hotel does not deserve its star rating giving the attitude of the reception staff, the corner cutting job on redecoration in rooms not the mention the disgusting state of the windows - will not be staying there again nor would I recommend it to any one.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Brighton for 1 night in December 2005 and found the staff unfriendly and downright rude. Be warned, there are lots of extras to pay on top of your initial bill. Car parking is £10 extra and the cost of breakfast which is not on display, is £14.99.
This may be acceptable if the breakfast hadn't been cold and lank almost as if it had been cooked the night before.
I made polite comments on this not being acceptable but the response was 'I'll pass on your comments'.

The hotel looks dreadful from the outside, a real dump, but you will be pleasantly surprised when you go inside. Staff are nice and friendly and the rooms were lovely.
Included in the price of the room was a full English breakfast buffet. Parking is bit of a nightmare but they do have a parking lot under the hotel but you will need to ask staff how to access it.
The hotel is situated right on the front of Brighton and only a few minutes walk away from the pier.
There are many restaurants and bars surrounding the hotel, so if you don’t want to eat in the hotel restaurant there are plenty of other places to choose. Will be returning to the holiday inn again but would recommend them to do something to the outside! Was not a good first impression!
