Business Hotel on the Beach
Best Western's Princes Marine, actually down the beachfront in Hove, not Brighton, was a pleasant surprise. We learned that the bulk of the traffic to this beach area is actually business people at conferences. Due to this the rooms are large (by British standards), the wireless internet is free (at least at the moment) and the food in the less-than-promising looking restaurant is respectable. Apparently parking along the beachfront is a nightmare and the dedicated car park was a big plus; although the passageway to the lot could not have... more
Best Westen, Old Fashion
Very old fashion décor. Nothing fantastic and this hotel, Room clean, nice TV and great sea view. Headboard was falling of the back of the bed. Breakfast was good. PLEASE NOTE; this hotel is in Hove, about 30-40 min walk to get to Brighton. Greyhound track is about a 20 min walk. The hotel has a free car park. It can be very expensive to park in Brighton.
Loved my stay
The location was superb, sightly out of town but within walking distance. There was a car park which was extremely useful, and the rooms were all of a very good size. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and I definitely would recomment this hotel!
Great, cheap place to stay
I stayed on business in mid-week and was very pleased with what i found. Booking on the internet was easy and and the receptionist on arrival was friendly although the checking in system was like something from the 60's with a large form to fill in. The room was standard 3* fare with the exception of the tv - a good sized wide-screen with all of the freeview channels on and excellent information sections. We had a drink in the bar and the food looked good quality but we fancied indian and were directed to a superb place 5 minutes away... more
The best hotel of it class in the area
I had to vist brighton on business last month and the hotel i normally stay at was full. Found this hotel as i was driving out of town looking for some whereto stay and managed to get there last room. first contact was a really helpfull guy at reception even had a car park (and thats unheard of in brighton enless you pay £200 a night in the grand). went to the room and that was a plesent suprise, large clean good size room, clean and moden bathroom a really nice suprise much better than the hotel i usally vist when in this area. I then... more
Old fashioned but quaint ?
I stayed one night on business, and found the free car park useful, plus I got a first floor room with sea view. The bed was the hardest I've ever had to suffer, but other than that, it was a nice room and modernish bathroom. The breakfast was superb, but outshone by the extremely camp and loud-voiced older waiter, who may have have influence on the creators of the "fast show"'s "Suits You Sir" pair. He was a scream, and you could hear him from the other end of Brighton. Location wise, it's not near the centre, but gives an... more
Very convenient retreat
My wife and I stayed here for one night on 6th May having found it was the nearest three star hotel to the venue for a wedding reception we had been invited to attend. All worked fine, room was good, the front desk allowed us to park on the front of the hotel as all the 20 car park spaces had already been taken. Clearly, a popular establishment as we told several other guests at the earlier reception where we were staying and one of the couples got the last room. Breakfast extremely good and efficiently served. Should the need arise, we... more
A home from home
I have stayed at the Princes Marine a dozen times, on business. I have stayed at many better hotels, but this one is family-owned and always seems like a home from home. The staff are all characters, and some can come across as little grumpy at first. But when you get to know them a little you find that they are really nice. The bar is friendly, and you can get nice bar snacks at lunchtime and in the evening. I have eaten in the restaurant and although the menu is limited the food is actually pretty good. There are plenty of nice... more
Despite the quirks I`ll return
So difficult to do this hotel justice. So much is wrong but somehow I still go back regularly, so it must be OK. Firstly it is really dated. Like something from the 70s. The public areas are quite depressing and the corridors upstairs always seem to have spare tables and chairs piled in them. The lift takes about 10 minutes to come - this has been the same for years - and whilst notices tell you not to use the emergency stairs most people do. The restaurant food, if breakfast is anything to go by, is not to be recommended.... more
