Stayed here last week 1st-4th Oct '10 and enjoyed the stay. The staff were helpful and freindly but as most of them were not English they lacked communication skills, not their fault. For example jugs of milk with the deserts instead of cream, which they didn't understand... more

This hotel is totally tired, jaded and altogether run down and needs a total refurbishment. We had the misfortune to book this hotel through a local tour operator. We were at first put in a dull and dingy room, filthy windowsill littered in dirt and cigarette ends. We... more

Friday and Saturday night stay over B/Hol w/e. Was not informed of parking problem. No car park at hotel. Had to leave my 6yr old in car on double yellows whilst I took all our luggage, toys etc into lobby. Huge queue for check in so just left it by seats. Had to drive... more

I really liked this hotel. We got a really cheap room rate over the internet including breakfast. The decor was dated and the hotel wasn't luxurious but the room was comfortable and the staff were helpful and polite. Best of all the hotel is located just across the road... more

A Nice Surprise
After looking at this site we were very worried about going to the Royal Albion, but we were pleasantly surprised. OK the double bed was two singles pushed together - but so what - they were very comfortable and it took my back to my youth. Yes - it isn't up to your Las Vegas style hotels but it is clean and warm and we had the most fantastic sea view. The buffet sytle breakfast was lovely - I am a veggie and often only end up with toast but there was cereals, pastries, egg, beans, mushrooms, fried potatos as well as bacon, sausage and black pudding. We only paid £60 for a Sunday night so it was fab value.
Average, but good location
My family and I stayed at the Royal Albion in August despite reading all the reviews about it on this website, how silly we were. We booked through a deal with Expedia and thought there would be a small chance of receiving a sea view room. No chance! We were put in a room of which it's window had a view of the sea - but only if you stood on the dresser, stuck your head out of the window and then turned right. The room was disappointing, the drawers were falling off the old rickety dressers and though they kept the room clean, I did keep thinking about the reviews about the state of the bathrooms. Staff were nice but they were not interested in helping any other customers in the hotel that were complaining about the "decor" or "description" of the room. Would go back again but definitely not high on the list.
NOT BAD!
Stayed in the Royal Albion Hotel on the 5th September for one night, had a room with juquzzi not over looking the see but over looking the park instead. found the hotel as you entre it very beutiful with magnificent chandalier. good disable access with a ramp at the main entrance and lift in the lobby. hotel is very near a coach station, no parking at the hotel for guests but there are many car parks near by some that feel very secure costing £24 for 24 hours - if you exceed the limit then just say you lost your ticket and you will only be charged for 24 hours!! even if you stay 3 days!!! the room was nice and large with coffee making facilitys. bathroom was average with soap, shower/bath gel and shampoo. The room had air conditioning and we needed it on and it was great feeling nice and cool on such a warm night. The double bed was 2 singles pushed together but then im sure other hotels do the same. the area that the room was situated meant you could hear the traffic BUT after 6pm you hear hardly anything. Where the hotel is situated means your right near the pier, sea life centre, pavilion, parks, the lanes, shops, sea, bars and resturants. Im sure if you stayed in a hotel the other end of brighton you would miss out on most of this and its only a short walk from the hotel to the beach where its recomended to sit on the beach just before sunset and watch the flock of starlings around the west pier as its spectacular!!!! All in all had a very good stay and at a reasonable price of £69 last min and on a sunday. People shopuld remember that hotels do charge more on a friday and saturday as its clubbing nights and its a way of making more money! Be warned!!
dissapointing, appalling & dirty
We came to Brighton and walking on the seaside we looked at the Royal Albion Hotel and thought why not spent a beautiful night there. How wrong could we have been? We presented ourselves at the reception at around 15.30 and we were met by a young receptionist who was not only unfriendly but very unwelcoming. Considering the price of £150 per night we are very disappointed with the quality of the hotel and room which I list below: In our bedroom, wallpaper was peeling of the walls around the doors and windows and that made the room smell of damp. The curtains & the carpet were very dirty. The remote control for the TV did not have batteries on so we were totally unable to use it. The bed which is advertised as a double bed was not only two single beds joint together to make a double but it was torn and very uncomfortable to sleep on. Coming into the bathroom, there was a big hole in the wall & electric wires were hanging out as well as dirt which flaked onto the sink and on your head if you tried to wash your face which made it in total a very hazardous and disgusting event. In the morning on the way to go and eat the breakfast we walked through a big pile of dirty laundry which was left there till we checked out at lunchtime. I wander how many bacteria would have been spread around?? Breakfast was served cold and had no taste in it. I can go on and on ...
The Royal Albion is nice!!!
I stayed at this hotel a couple of weeks ago and my stay there was really good. We were part of a hen party and so we had a few twin rooms between us. Everyone had nice, clean rooms with good showers and plenty of hot water. The staff at reception were very friendly and happy to help with anything. There was lots of choice for breakfast, something for everyone from cereal to hot food. I was really worried about staying there after reading this site but I would definitely stay again. Maybe some rooms are better than others and the people writing on here have just been unlucky. We paid 55 pounds for our room which I thought was very good value. The location is brilliant for everything in Brighton. The only slightly negative thing i would say is that the single beds were quite small and the room service was a bit slow on sunday afternoon but everything else was fine.
AWFUL HOTEL - VERY DISAPPOINTING
We stayed in a sea view room. Considering the price of £150 per night I am very disappointed with the quality of the hotel and room, which I list below: In our bedroom, wallpaper was peeling of the walls around the doors and windows. Showing signs of damp and aging. Unable to open one of the windows, which was required as the room was very hot and the temperature could not be changed. The curtains where coming away from the rail. The carpet was turned up and yellow in the corner by the door. The paint was scuffed on the bathroom door and was very unsightly. There was only one set of towels in the room. The shower flooded the bathroom when turned on as the shower head was very lose and water sprayed across the shower door. There was only a shower door that was very short and when you had a shower again the water sprayed onto the floor. The tiling around the bath and sink was flaking and dirty. Outside of the lifts on the 5th floor, there was food left on the side from Saturday lunchtime, which was still there when we left on Sunday morning. Due to the warmth of the hotel this was starting to wilt and smell due to the nature of the food. Used cups and teapots where also left unattended. A very hazardous and disgusting event. When we went down to breakfast on Sunday, the restaurant was full and we where told to go into the Russell Room where breakfast was being served. This breakfast had been left to keep warm over hot water and hence had dried up and I was not happy to eat this. The main lounge had recently been painted and there was a stench of paint making it unpleasant to have a drink in this room. When checking in on Friday we had to wait at least 30 minutes as the main desk was understaffed and there where a lot of people checking in at the same time. Due to the standards that you quote on your various websites, I am left very disappointed by the standard of your hotel.
Worse nights sleep ever!
Worst nights sleep I have ever had. To be fair we arrived last minute and no real other choice than to stay in this room they had. We were charged £99 BEFORE we stayed there and now I can see why - if they had charged me in the morning I would not have paid. Mygirlfriend and I knew that we didn't have a sea view but we also didn't realise the tiny window in our box room faced a series of air vents from another part of the hotel - all droning and whirring in their own rhythms! We started up the jacuzzi having run a nice bath and were immediately greeted by black bits, gunk and hair appearing on the surface of the water - obviously the pipes had not been cleaned in some time. We decided on a shower. After our lovely meal out we returned to our room to find it baking hot even though the air-conditioning was on full. We were sweating in our bed so eventually had no choice but to switch the tractor sound of the not working air-con off and to open the window. This gave little respite from a sweltering night and we had to put up with the drone of the vents outside or die in our beds!! At 3am we had almost managed to get to sleep when an incredibly loud and prolonged beep startled back to conciousness. This happened again about half an hour later. (We were told later this was the fire alarm which had been set off twice by some stag do idiots that seemed to have free run of the hotel) It was at this point I went down to the lobby to voice my protests. In the morning - both of us feeling awful - I went down to the lobby once more with my switch card in hand and demanded a refund. I was offered 20% by the man at the desk whilst he convesed with a hidden 'supervisor' who never made an appearance. I said I would not settle for anything less than £50 and to their credit I got it. However, not a single word of aplology from the supervisor/manager, not a single admittance of failure to fix the air conditioning or a word of any intent to clean the jacuzzi pipes or the fated and forgotten room 320. Basically awful service and a really scummy hotel. Don't go there unless you ae on a stag do/hen night and are too blotto to remember any of it.
Great hotel! Wonderful stay!
I absolutely enjoyed my stay at the hotel! Great room, friendly staff, good food, excellent weather! When in Brighton, stay at the Royal Albion! :-)
Great weekend
Was really worried about my stay. However, it was great. Staff friendly. Rooms OK. Breakfast plentiful. Brighton is a lively fun place - if you want somewhere quite don't go to Brighton.
brilliant in every respect,no complaints whatsoever
whoever reviewed the albion as poor, would, it would seem, be critical of any hotel without due cause. Went in 2003 & will be booking for 2004
