My wife & I and our two sons stayed at the hotel Flamingo in August 2006 for 7 nights. First impressions were good but when we were shown to our family room we were pleasantly surprised to find how nice it was. Two large separate sleeping areas, very tastefully furnished.... more

Good visit
Visited the Hotel Flamingo in early September. Approaching the Hotel from the car park I got anxious about our choice - the Hotel looks tired and run down. Thankfully this was not the case at all. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the garden and beach. The room was in good condition and clean. The AC was very good and the bathroom was a good size (with bidet). There was a good selection of tv channels and the room includes a small safe and mini bar. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout - reception, housekeeping and the spa in particular. The waiters in the dining room were friendly but seemed to be very short staffed. The food quality was good. The pool was remakably clean and you could always find a sun lounger around the pool or on the beach. The beach is not the best in the area but is a few yards from the pool area - a lot of other Hotels in the area are located a lot further from a beach. The location of the beach makes it possible to go for a walk / sit on the beach any time of day or night. The evening entertainment was of a good quality and the guests at the Hotel were a combination of families to couples of all ages. You definitely need a car to explore the area - note that everything outside of the Hotel (petrol garages, supermarkets etc) close from 1pm-5pm every day. There are some nice local restaurants around Chia and Pula for lunch but they are not easy to find. Otherwise there is not a lot to do outside of the Hotel. A good place to relax and soak up some sunshine - either by the pool or on the beach.
Good hotel, but dont pay the brochure price.
Just recently returned from a week long stay at the Flamingo for a honeymoon, approaching the hotel i feared the worst as the backside of the hotel(facing away from the beach) is a tad scruffy, once in the hotel it was fairly smart and clean, the room was also of a good standard,a few minor maintenace issues didnt really bother me as everything worked, the staff were pleasant, especially the bar/resturant staff, most spoke good English so no prblems with communicating, the only thing is without the weather you are stuck for something to do(luckily that was only one day for us!) the beach either side of the hotel was a bit tatty, rubbish etc and there is a stagnant pool next to the "private villas" if you are going to book get the main hotel,we had a few problems with ants and midges in the room as the maid would open the french doors when cleaning. All in all i personally thoroughly enjoyed it but am glad i didint pay the brochure price as it aint worth it.book direct and save yourself a few quid. i would definatley go back.
Family Friendly, Good Standard Italian Hotel
This is a good standard hotel, favoured by many Italians from the mainland, and generally good quality. Accomodation: Rooms in the central block are close to the pool, but also close to the late-night bar and any entertainment. The rooms elsewhere are typical of Italian 4 star standards - tiled floors, whitewashed walls, basic decor, smallish bathrooms. Our rooms were large, seperate room for a child, and the bathroom was acceptable but not outstanding. Aircon was very good. Some refurbishment needed in some areas, but overall acceptable. Food: Good quality food at all times. Breakfast usual buffet catering for a number of guests from different countries - e.g. ham, cheese, breads / eggs, toast, fruit / cereals, pastries etc. Lunch menu short but salad buffet available. Dinner menu typically Sardinian, not really suitable for vegetarians. Caters well for children. Location: About 4 kms from nearest small town, on beach. Bus runs from hotel to Pula, although Pula is quite small. Some cafes, a supermarket, some minor tourist shops in the centre of Pula. Hotel beach is well attended, is next door to a public beach. Pool / Facilities: Swimming pool was very clean, uses spring water I believe (not chlorinated). I didn't see any broken tiles as suggested by another reviewer. Plenty of sun-loungers, surprising to find one hotel in the world where you didn't need to 'reserve' with towels at 5.00am! Some basic (chargeable) watersports, although there is a surf-school / water sports outfit right next door which is slightly cheaper (and will bargain). Good gym, tennis etc. This hotel is for familes, and for relaxing. Costs: Basic bar drinks and some (chargeable) lunch meals worked out c. £80 per person per week. Staff: Couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Very cheery, nothing too much trouble, everything well kept and clean. Table staff sometimes busy (at predictable times) but attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and had reasonable expectations to begin with. Would recommend this hotel to couples with small children who don't need variety of entertainment other than attentive friendly staff in a beach environment.
It is not a 4 stars hotel!!
I'm an italian tourist and with my family we often go to sardinia. I choose the hotel Flamingo because of its great web site, which, unfortunetely, doesn't show the truth. First of all the rooms, we had a family one with a sea view, the room was very expensive, small, old, actually at night we could not sleep because of the ants of the windows were not well fixed. The bathroom was awful, with a lot of elements broken. And between 7 and 8 pm there was only cold water for your shower (more than once mu young kids had cold shower). The pool were old and darty, always full of sand. The staff at the reception desk was pretty rude(except a few persons). However I found the food very good, even if the service in the restaurant was not very organised. The beach was nice but while you enter in sea it was full of stones. I was wery disappointed by this hotel. It is not a 4 stars hotel.Actually not even a 3!!!!!!!!!And of course it was very very expensive................ An advice, for the same price there are a lot of better hotels!!!!!
Hotel Flamingo
The hotel which is expensive is featured in several brochures and has a good web site but be warned none of these give the full picture. The hotel is right on the beach with no prom etc but miles from anywhere so the only entertainment in the evening is in the hotel which is by the pool and goes onto to 11.30 if you have a superior room this will keep you awake. The portions of the food were very small with one potato or a very small portion of veg though it was good we were always hungry in the evening though the sweets were buffet style so you could fill up on these. The standard of the rooms were poor with ill fitting wooden french windows allowing ants to come in from the balcony. The bathrooms were dated with no extractor fans and the tiling etc was of poor standard. the room was clean which was more than could be said of the public areas though they washed the lobby floor the dining room floor was dirty and a cotton bud was under a sideboard in the lounge for 3 days. There were lots of broken tiles around the pool and in the area infront of the hotel. The most off putting feature was the rubbish and open drains behind the kitchens which guests were not expected to see. There was a sister hotel along the beach only 3 star and their pool was filthy so they came to our pool but unfortuanetly there was not enough sun beds to go round. Lots of people resorted to putting towels on them at breakfast time.
Good relaxation holiday
We got a late deal and weren't sure what to expect, so went with an open mind. We did research the area however, and knew that there would not be very much to do there. This was ok for us as we just wanted to have some sunshine and chill out. If your looking for loads of activities and night life this is not for you! The main part of the hotel was very clean and pleasent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Te food was typically Italian. Not gourmetby any standard, one night we were served crisps which were stated on the menu as potatoes, well, I suppose they are right but there were many raised eyebrows that evening!! The pool was small but clean, and the sitting area around the pool was washed off morning and night and was very pleasant to sit there with fresh pineapple from the bar and a long drink. The temperature during first week of July was a very sunny 32 degrees! Very hot. But that was ok for us. The rooms have very effective air conditioning. The room we had was not in the main hotel. It was in one of the little 'out houses' They appear extremely basic, but again were spotless. We had a lovely time. The little beach is white sand and calm seas. Surprisingly, no activities on the water though. Deck chairs were free. We decided to hire a car for one day to see what was beyond the hotel. It was a nice day. We just followed the coastal road, Some nice little coves. Otherwise not much to see. But we were pleased we did it. The car cost £65.00 for the day so long as you stay within the set milage. All in all a nice place to go for a quiet, chill-out holiday with almost guaranteed sunshine. like most European hotels, its four stars are more like our three star in Britain or USA. We would go again.
Good value, if you book like us!
We had a fantastic time from 15-23 July 2005! Booked return flights: Luton to Cagliari for £90 (2 people, return, EasyJet), direct hotel booking by E-mail with a substantial discount (2 people, half board), Avis car hire for 8 days. Weather was great, breakfast and evening meals excellent, lovely pool, lots of sunbeds, very quiet during this week, white sandy beach 10m away, nice bar and lunches. Rooms possibly need refurbishing, but thoroughly cleaned and changed during breakfast each day. Staff in dining room very helpful. Good choice on menus, delicious desserts. You MUST have a car. Some of the very best beaches in Europe within 20 mins. Tuaredda is superb! (crystal clear waters) Can get the car right onto the beach up the coast. Just right for a relaxing, romantic holiday! What do people want ... disco, bingo and karaoke? If you couldn't have a honeymoon here there's something wrong! Also nice bars if you are adventurous. Cagliari good at night (25 mins away), Pula 5 mins away.
Great for relaxation
I have to say that I am a little surprised by the previous reviews of this hotel. I will agree that there is not too much to do in this part of Sardinia, other than visit Cagliari (the capital), Pula (the neighbouring town) or take a drive around the coastline. For this reason a hire car is a must during your stay. However if you are looking for a relaxing break to "get away from it all" this hotel would fit the bill. The hotel is right on the beach and the views are beautiful. The hotel experienced a flood this year so the adjoining apartments are in the process of being renovated; whilst they may look slightly unappealing from the outside, they are lovely from within - spacious, clean, tidy and cool. The food is not amazing but okay and the majority of staff are very polite (particularly the maids and the bar staff). My only real complaint would be that the waiters can be a little abrupt as they have trouble speaking English. I probably would not wish to spend more than 10 days at this hotel for fear of boredom; overall this area of the island is very much the "land that time forgot" with few modern amenities or commercial interests, but that to me is what made it a nice option.
Don't go for a honeymoon
I travelled to Sardinia as part of a trip around Italy for my honeymoon. I would say Flamingo has very poor service and its surrounding area is very baron with nothing to do. If you want to go to a 2/3* accommodation and just sit on a beach and do nothing else, this might be ok for you. But the price you pay is more for a 4* and that is what we expected!
We have a "private villa" for you
Upon arrival at the Flamingo hotel, we were told that the room we reserved in the hotel was overbooked, but that the management would allow us to stay in a "private villa" down the beach about 100 meters from the main hotel. It was not air conditioned, and I woke up 5 times the first night because ants were crawling across my face. It was pretty much outrageous. The next morning, I demanded that my family of 5 be returned to the hotel and put up in our room as advertised and reserved. The next 9 days of sunshine and beach were heaven. Overall, we are going back to Sardinia...but not to the Flamingo.
