Copthorne Hotel

Stayed at this hotel before going on holiday from Gatwick and had a graet time. The room I stayed in was a good size, fresh and clean. I found out from the receptionist when I checked out that they had just been refurbished. Staff were all very friendly and couldnt do enough to help. The Brasserie was great for dinner, the carvery was quick and easy - just the thing you want before an early start the next morning. Hotel offers great comfort, friendly staff and good food. We ate in the Lion D'or restaurant and what an untold treasure that was, food deicious and service excellent. Not the cheapest but we took up the offer of the "early dining promotion" that offered great value. Standard room was in need of refurbishment but pleased to see that the hotel is undergoing what seems to be fairly extensive investment, not before time but will only enhance what was a great stay. We always travel to airports by car but as our flight back to Gatwick arrived at 2.00 a.m. we decided to stay overnight before heading home. Checking on various sites we found a deal through APH which after AA members' discount only cost about £30 more than parking alone would have been. The hotel has its own coach service for people staying before flying instead of at the end. Having seen some of the earlier reviews we were a bit worried but without cause. Myself and my 13 yr daughter had the awful misfortune to stay at this awful dump the night before our flight to wonderful Nova Scotia in Canada - WHERE THE HOTELS ARE FAB! Anyway, back to the Copthorne - within 30 minutes of entering our dismal, dark and dreary room, I found TWO COCKROACHES - how unpleasant is that?!!! We booked one night at the hotel as we had an early flight from Gatwick. The hotel was ideally located for our airport parking, less than five minutes. The room was beyond our expectations, large and very comfortable. We would certainly use this hotel again if we fly early. There are long corridors and no lift, but staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I booked 3 rooms for a group of 5 adults and 1 child. The rooms were horrible for such a highly rated hotel. Our room had holes in the chairs, carpet, toilet didn't flush properly, and the staff were unhelpful and decidedly snooty. In over a month of hotel stays, this is the only time we have ever experienced such rude, unhelpful staff in a British hotel. Will never stay at the Copthorne again. Having read some of the reviews I was a bit sceptical but this hotel wasn't as bad as I'd expected. I booked directly via the baa website and got my room for 70 quid room only. My first surprise was that it isn't AT London Gatwick airport at all, which I'd been looking for and had expected, but about 10 miles away (a tenner by taxi if you arrive late enough to miss the shuttle). It is a nice location though and for anyone travelling to or from it by train it is nearer to Crawley or Three Bridges than the actual airport station.... more

The rooms are larger than expected, compared to those in London but the furniture is a bit worn and the bath is tired. Meals are overpriced for the quality.

I must say I wasn't expecting much as the deal I got on the hotel room was great, £59.00! I was however pleasantly surprised. The receptionist was really helpful and the porter helped me with my large suitcase. As I was travelling on my own I felt a little self consicous but the reception staff suggested I enjoy the BBQ that they were organising that night for all guests in the garden, so I thought I would go and grab a bite their rather than the more formal restaurant, the food was great and the chef and waiting staff were so friendly... more

We chose this hotel for our wedding reception mainly because of the lack of affordable alternatives in surrey/sussex, accessibility and the nice gardens. We would looking for something functional and got that plus more than we bargained for. As many of the reviews point out, this hotel is a bit tired and some of the rooms are in dire need of an update.
