Thera Mare Hotel

My husband and I spent a week in Santorini at the hotel Therra Mare and we thought it was incredible. The pool area was nice and quiet and we had no problems getting a sunbed and some shade. Often there were only a couple of other people by the pool. The hotel staff were friendly and the place was clean and the room had a fridge which meant we could enjoy a cold glass of wine on our balcony. We thought this was a really charming little hotel - lovely and quiet, just as we like it. Architecturally pleasing with beautiful bright red and purple flowers lining the walkways, along with all the little geckos coming out in the sun. Bordered by the island's largest mountain which makes a great background to the pool. No other children about, which was a shame for our two boys, but it didn't really matter - they just made friends with whoever was about. This is a great hotel. I would thoroughly recommend Thera Mare to couples or families. The hotel, grounds and pool are immaculate as are the rooms which were cleaned every day. All the staff at the hotel treated us superbly throughout and were a lot of fun especially Panos! We found the location of the hotel on the outskirts of Perissa to be ideal as it was quieter than the centre of the resort (a ten minute walk away). Stayed for 2 weeks at the end of August. Although telling Thomas Cook, who we booked the hotel through, it was our honeymoon we were allocated a twin room on arrival. This room was very small and in no way represented the rooms shown on Thera Mare website. After explaining our situation we were moved without fuss to a lovely double room. We stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel and were sorry to leave such a tranquil and understated location. Varoius sized rooms available some small and some very large all have nice balconies. The place was spotless and the staff very nice. the pool is much larger than most in the area but possibly not suitable for non swimmers or young children as it is deep even in the shallow end. I arrived in Santorini Greece May 12, 2006. After speaking with Terri, a representative of Thera Mare Hotel in Perivolos Santorini, I decided to stay there. We spoke while I was in Athens over the phone... Because the Hotel room was not as represented I decided to go elsewhere after 2 nights. I was charged 150 euro per night. All other hotels close by were 40 to 50 euro of equal quality. I also was charged 1 euro per Minute for internet usage!!! To top it off, I also was charged 250 euro for transportation!!! My partner and I stayed at the Thera Mare during September 2005 and found it a good base even though it was a 5-10 minute walk from the main resort. The holiday was hampered slightly by me not being well (no fault of the hotel). When we went to reception and asked them to book us a taxi to take us to the chemist in the next village the owner was unable to get through to the taxi firm and so her husband took us himself and even waited outside while we collected some medicine. Thera Mare is a family run hotel. It is quite small - 35 rooms on two levels -and basic, but it is very clean and the people who run it are pleasant and helpful. Bed linen is changed daily. There are no coffee-making facilities in the bedrooms. The hotel is convenient to supermarkets, bus stops and restaurants. There is a great swimming pool and there are always sun beds available.

We were told by the hotel that we were staying in a triple share room. However when we arrived at the hotel it was actually a double room with a fold out bed. It was extremely small and uncomfortable. We enquired as to whether there were any other rooms avaiable and were told that there were none. We then decided to leave, at this stage the hotel offered us another room, miraculously one had become available. Breakfast was bread, cheese and coffee. Staff were rude. Hotel would not accpet crerdit card as payment.

The Thera Mare Hotel in Perissa is a lovely, albeit basic, property consisting of three low rise (two floors) buildings. The pool area is at the rear of the property and has at least 25 sun beds. So there is no need to "put your towel" down at 7.30 in the morning!! The hotel is just set off the main street in the resort and therefore the only real traffic noise may be from a scooter passing by. Not a problem at all.
