totally uninspiring, but staff very nice
from sbercher
Stayed there for a total of 3 weeks for business purposes (so no choice) in Sept. 2007. I had a room which was in the furthest block from reception, a good 10-minutes walk through a maze of pre-fabricated corridors and alleys with ugly, dirty multicolor carpets (why they put carpets everywhere in the UK is a mistery). This hotel was originally a small inn, but additions were made and it now looks like a chinese puzzle made of what seem to be glorified porta-cabins. My room was not very clean, and in 3 weeks I don't think they vacumed...

AVOID. Too Noisy
from Planedriver
I have had to stay at this hotel many times for business, and I try to avoid it whenever I can. The worst about this hotel is that rooms can be very noisy. This is because it is next to a busy motorway (M1) with ongoing roadworks until end 2008. In addition, the hotel was built a while ago and there is simply no acoustic insulation between the wooden floors and walls. If there is no one next to or above your room or if they are quiet, that's ok. But if that's not the case, chances are you will hear other guests' TV's, walking, talking...

Nice room, awful service
from Funkyrabbit
I stayed at the Ramada for one night on business. My room was lovely with flat screen TV and a walk in shower but it did take me some time to get to it - the rabbit warren of corridors is an excellent description for this hotel! The service at check in and check out were abysmal, they had one member of staff behind the desk and despite only having two guests in front of me in the queue I had to wait 10 mins to check out. At breakfast, there were no clear tables (despite only a few guests) and they had to take my coffee and toast order...

Great Hotel
from jasonBedfordshire
I stay regulary in the area on business and this Hotel is by far the best. The bedrooms are of a very good standard after being recently refurbished. The service and food is excellent and the staff are always welcoming and attentive. Very good value for money
Uninspired and lack lustre service
from Icylady
Just spent a 2 night weekend special booked via hotel chain website. Arrived to be given directions to take lift to first floor with baggage, no one prepared us for the rabbit warren of corridors just to get to our room. When we eventually arrived at our room we were presented with a poky room with a bathroom only big enough for one. Our package should have included flowers and chocolates (obviously they don't read their own website) as there was none on arrival. My husband braved the rabbit warren of corridors to return to...

One to avoid if on business or pleasure
from John_Ward
I stayed one night at the Ramada Hotel, Hemel Hempstead on 15 August 2006. While the hotel website give the impression of a country retreat, it is located directly next to the M1 motorway. The room I stopped in (Room 159), was very tired. The bathroom is incredibly small, the room has no A/C and need of some serious refurbishment. There was decortaion being carried out in the corridors, but the hotel requires more than a lick of paint to come up to a standard that you would pay your own money to stay in. I ate in the Arts...

Ramada Jarvis - Hemel Hempstead
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in this hotel for one night earlier this month. We were part of a coach party en route to Hampton Court Flower Show. On first sight this hotel looks quite nice, the main part of the hotel was obviously an old house. Unfortunately the bedrooms are located around the back of the hotel in a 2 storey motel-style 1970's annex. It looks grim & the grey net curtains at the aluminium framed windows certainly puts you off. All photos of this hotel do not show this ugly addition to the hotel. The hotel also claims...

Trying hard but not getting there
from A TripAdvisor Member
Avoid the restaurant...and especially the coffee at breakfast that I think they must make the night before. This is areally unexciting hotel and the staff all seem to be unwilling amateurs. Hotels in the area seem to be all of a poor quality, and this is neither better nor worse than the others. Book a studio room rather than an ordnary room...a bit more space, a decent shower, and you avoid waking the miles and miles of corridot that the otrher rooms suffer from.
