Madeira Palacio Resort

The hotel had a fantastic reception, rather palatial. The restaurant where afternoon tea and breakfast was served was at attractive with an area that you could sit outside. The waiters were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was average, nothing over special. We had one meal in the hotel which was a fantastic a seafood meal it cost 32 euro per person. The bedrooms were very clean, in need though of new balcony furniture, the bed was comfortable.
The room was cleaned everyday. Make sure you have a sea view, its fantastic. I think the bedroom was more 4 star than 5. I would say overall it was a lovely hotel, though it would of been better slightly nearer to Funchal. A hotel bus ran a number of times every day. I would recommend a little cafe just down the road, turn left and its about 500 yards the opposite side of the road, very good prices for beer and a lunch.
Our overall feelings is that Maderia is a lovely place, though you need to be able to walk , use the local buses they run just outside the hotel and are so cheap. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. I understand from the staff that this hotel will be undergoing refurbishments as from Nov 06 until 2008.
