Awful stay, obviously resting on its laurels from corporate business
Stayed as part of a company do. The rooms were comfortable enough but the gym was dirty such that i didn't want to use the pool. The local staff were very unhelpful although the international staff were far more friendly and approachable. A dinner inclusive rate was negotiated by the company and we were told that dinner could be taken in the bar or restaurant. When I asked the waitress in the bar what I could order she shrugged her shoulders and said "whatever you just pay the difference". She looked pretty cross when i asked her politely... more
Shocking Service!
I stayed here as part of a 3 day conference a couple of weeks ago. The hotel itself was clean and well kept. The rooms were quite big and maid service was regular. No bath robe, although promised on the website! Food was OK. It was buffet style because of the conference set up. Not good if you were a veggie!! The service however was shocking!!!!! We had to wait at least 20minutes at the bar each night to get served! This was not acceptable, especially after a hard days work. Front desk staff were very helpful however!
Very nice hotel
I stayed at this hotel for business purposes and thought it was very good value for money. Rooms were large and comfortable, as I would have expected from the Marriott chain. Staff are extremely friendly and pleasant. I was disappointed with the restaurant though as there was little choice on the menu for vegetarians. Choice on the breakfast menu was also very poor and not good value for money. Although this is a nice hotel, it is not very well accessed by public transport. You would either need to drive or take a taxi (costs... more
Can't agree with the last guest!
I usually stay closer to London but for business was up this way. I read the last comment left and was a bit nervous, but cannot agree on any of the comments. I was welcomed by a very friendly team after a nightmare journey on the M25 and when I arrived at my room was pleasantly surprised at the standard and the cleanliness. I ate breakfast in the Restaurant the next morning and was suprised to see a Chef cooking in view of the guests and for the price I felt very reasonable. It was excellent. All in all it was a very... more
Oh dear, how bad?
Where to start? Despite calling reservations to check my booking before i left home, the reception had no reservation. It took ten minutes to check for our reservation which was stuck in a different system. When we finally got to our room, it was untidy and smelt of smoke, even though it was no smoking. I've stayed in many Marriotts and was dissapointed by the bed at this hotel. Thankfully, i never had dinner at the hotel which i am glad as the breakfast was very poor. Dry, burnt and tasteless. The worst experience in a... more
Good Service, Nice Kids Pool
I was traveling with my wife, four kids, and my parents, so keep that in mind. We stayed here on the bookends of a trip to Rome. We mostly slept, but managed to use a few of the hotel amenities. The restaurant was nice, but very pricey. A full meal was about thirty pounds per person. We met a friend and their family, so there were twelve of us. We were originally told the kitchen couldn't accomodate a party of our size do to a large group with a reservation at the same time. We said we didn't mind if it was slow, as we wanted... more
Good
Stayed here with work on a conference. Service levels were very good throughout the hotel, staff were very polite, helpful and in general veryproffessional. Rooms were clean and of average size. The decor is a little outdated, in particular the huge tv cabinet - something from the 80's!!!! One slight problem with the room was the water and the taps smelt very stagnent - perhaps the pipes/drains need clearing?? Didnt get chance to use the leisure facilites so cant comment on them. Complimentary newpaper in the morning,... more
Just another hotel...
Quite a while since I stayed here... used to be part of another chain, and was not too good at all then... as Marritt now own it, I was interested to find out what impact they had had. Car parking fine, plenty of it, and only exitable via code. Arrival was fine, despite a coach party arriving just before me, reception was quiet. Pity the receptionist couldn't grasp that the account was all to be sent to my company, and wanted to tale a credit card detaisl - after a little persuasion it was sorted Room was ok, but a little... more
OK.....at a price
Booked a two night break using an offer seen in a Sunday paper. Suited us as it was near friends we were visiting. The £100 we paid for 2 nights b&b we thought was excellent value. On the whole the the Hotel was fine if not really near anything except the M25. Rooms were ok, although we had a dreadful smell in our bathroom. Swimming pool, sauna etc again all fine although main pool a bit on the small side. Our breakfast was all you could want but would not have been happy to have paid over £14 for it. We had a meal in the Hotel one night... more
Nice hotel, surly staff
Finding the hotel couldn't have been easier - if you're heading east-bound, just come off junction 26 of the M25 and it's in front of you. It's a new Marriott, and the rooms were spacious and clean; however, in my room the air conditioning was stuck on 'tropical', and the television remote control was about as reliable as a British train (ie not very). Breakfast wasn't included when you book online, so I discovered when paying the bill - and at a stunning £14.95 for essentially a bit of coffee and a moderately warm cooked breakfast in an... more
