This was without doubt the worst...

Feb 2008, Mrs C Green

This was without doubt the worst hotel we have ever stayed at- in fact, it was so bad we did not stay!! We had booked for their so-called 'Gala New year Dinner Dance'
The room was tiny, shabby and dirty. They have mistaken decrepit for olde wolrde charm. There IS a difference!!
The water was scalding hot and we couldn't regulate the temperature of the shower. The fabric on the headboard was torn with the foam padding coming through and the bed covers were threadbare. There was no hairdryer or trouser press. The carpet had not seen a vacuum cleaner in months.
The Gala Dinner dance was a shambles: the dance was a barman with a disco set and a few rope lights. And the dinner- well, we got part way through and when the wafer thin, dried up shoeleather arrived, masquerading as fillet steak, we called it a night and came home!! To add insult to injury- we were charged for the bottle of wine we had ordered with our meal!!! And they wanted to charge £125 per person for this! Save your money- never go there!
I contacted head office to complain and was promised that someone would contact me within 48 hours: two months later I'm still waiting....

Not my first choice to stay, but it was late and I couldn't find anywhere else at that time. The hotel faces the high street and so it can be a little bit noisy but it wasn't too bad. IF rustic is your thing, then this is the place for you. The staff were friendly and helpful and I had a pleasant nights sleep. The room is clean and tidy and the breakfast was really good and set me up for the day. A little bit pricy, but a decent enough hotel.

The Red Lion is absolutely marvelous,...

The Red Lion is absolutely marvelous, everything from the friendly staff to the creaky floorboards we thoroughly enjoyed!
We stayed for 2 nights in total and me and my husband really enjoyed ourselves. If you are looking for a calm atmosphere with relaxed surroundings then look no further.
May I suggest the four poster suite, although pricey absolutely worth it!
