Holiday Inn Hotel

stayed hear on the bank holiday weekend (Sunday night) our room was clean and a good size if a little old and tired looking. the problems begun when at about 10pm we returned from dinner to the hotel and wanted a drink to my amazement the hotel bar was closed! i have stayed in many holidays inn's and they have always had bars open till midnight or after. but ok we thought we would just go back to our room and order a few drinks. i phoned down to room service to order wine from there list, the gentleman who answered seemed unsure if... more

I stayed there for a 2-weeks work trip. The tariff is high, considering that it has no leisure facilities, and the position is not good (far from the center of the city, not served by public transportation). It is side-by-side to the leisure center called Festival park, or Bas Vegas, which means you are plenty of restaurants, fast-foods and discos at hand... maybe interesting for Basildon youth, not for the mean customer of this hotel. I spent three nights here on business and on checking in noticed the hotel charges a £50 fee if you leave early, never a good sign. The standard rate is £155 a night which is a total rip off for a hotel with no leisure facilities and in such a poor location. On the plus side the staff were all nice- very friendly and helpful, although one member of staff informed me when I asked for coffee at breakfast that she wasn't allowed to serve me coffee. I stay in this hotel three - four times per year. It has changed a lot since my last visit in June this year. It looks much cleaner and the staff attitude and service has changed for the better. The whole place has a friendly welcoming feel about it. Restaurant selection and decor need some improvement. Keep up the good work!

Stayed at this hotel on 16 June. Phoned the hotel to request early check in 2 days prior to arrival and was told to phone on the day. Phoned on the day to say that we were going to be there around 12.45, we were told that the rooms would take around half an hour to clean and should be ready by 12.45. We got there just before 12.45 and were told that the room was vacated at 12.15 and it would take 30 mins to clean. Hotel is fine the room decor clean and modern, and good breakfast. It's located in a kind of recreational park with cinema, and chain restaurants a few km out of Basildon itself (that's probably a good think if you've ever been there!). Basically ycould have been staying anywhere, not the location if you are looking for culture and atmosphere or a romantic break it's a bit 'all aboard for chav town'. The Hotel in itself is quite good and has good facilites so can't complain there.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Basildon for a night in June 2005 paying GBP89 on a corporate rate including breakfast. The building is situated on a leisure park in Basildon with bowling, nightclubs, various restaurants etc on the same complex, so there are plenty of facilities around if you don't fancy eating or drinking in the hotel. The hotel looks like a typical pre-fabricated building you'd find from the 1960s in a British new town. If you've ever been to Bracknell you'll have seen the same sort of thing. The hotel is located next to cinemas and resturants The buildning is a bite run down but no worse than other UK hotels. The rooms have double glazed windows, so the rooms are quiet and you get a good nights sleep. One should also know that the rooms are small. Having breakfast on the veranda and seeing the lake and the birds in the morning is very nice. We paid £51/night. Best breakfast ever. The Holiday Inn Basildon should be a disgrace to the Holiday Inn name. The accommodations are small the furnishings old. The service in all areas is sloppy and inconsistent. If this were an economy hotel I wouldn t mind, but when you are paying $180 per night this is unacceptable. I am a frequent visitor to the Basildon area and unfortunately there are few alternative choices around. Oh dear, although attending a corporate event over two days, the standard of accomodation was not to the standard one would expect even as a working venue. There was rubbish in the lifts, scuffed woodwork and marked walls / stained furniture everywhere. The bar prices were dear, and the food was mediocre with warm tea and coffee at break time.
