Mary Green over priced
i work locally and stay in the brentwood area 2-3 nights a week and i booked into this hotel recently, whilst the rooms are okay, the service and atmosphere are of a fawlty towers style, food is very very poor and decor throughout the hotel tired and in need of update, however, if you are looking for an overpriced, old english style hotel with food that will kill you and a bill that will send your bank manager to the mad pills, stay here ! On the plus side the car park was free and the pub down the road near the traffic lights had good... more
Poor value, poor service and tired rooms
I stayed here in April and the whole experience was very disappointing. There is very little in the way of a welcome when you arrive, there was confusion over my booking including a hefty overcharge for which I received no apology, and the rooms themselves are significantly overpriced even when compared to higher-grade hotels in central london. My room, which was allegedly one of the best, was tired and in need of a refurb. No aircon, minibar, regular sized bed despite paying "king-size" prices, and there is noise from the road meaning... more

Thank you very much for your review. We were sorry to read you had been unsatisfied with certain aspects of your stay. We aim to ensure our guests have an enjoyable stay with us and it is very disappointing when we do not achieve this. We would like to offer you our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced with your check-in. We pride ourselves on the levels of customer service we regularly achieve and we are very sorry that, on this occasion, we appear to have let ourselves down. We aim to keep our prices at a competitive level and have some great value deals available throughout the year. We constantly monitor our local market to ensure our prices are as attractive as possible. When comparing prices it is always worthwhile considering “added value” items and services often available in full service hotels like ours that may not be available in the limited service chain properties offering cheaper accommodation rates. We have worked hard on our restaurant menus over the past few years and have been awarded 2AA Rosettes in recognition of the standards achieved. We have also introduced some simpler more economically priced lunch and dinner menus to run along side our ever popular a la Carte menu. A complimentary later checkout time can often be arranged in advance at the time of booking, subject to availability of course. However it is not always possible to offer this facility at short notice We would recommend taking the time to visit our website to peruse our latest menus and fantastic offers as well as all the up to date news on our forthcoming events. We are sure you would be presently surprised by the changes implemented since your last visit and sincerely hope you will reconsider your decision of not staying with us again, confident in the knowledge that the problems experienced previously were of an isolated nature. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our Hotel in future.

Ideal overnight stay
I booked this hotel through Laterooms.com the day before I wanted to go, and got a good deal (half the rack rate). My reason for staying was purely as an overnight stay before my sisters wedding, so my expectations were not too high, I only really needed a bed for the night. Firstly, it is very easy to find, just about a mile or so from junction 28 of the M25, so very well connected by road with ample free parking. The reception was prompt and courteous. I'd forgotten that I'd booked a 4 star hotel rather than a travelodge and was a... more

Thank you very much for your review. We are sorry you were disturbed in the morning by our housekeeping trolleys but were glad to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. We hope we get the opportunity to welcome you back to Marygreen Manor in the future.

Rooms not bad value, restaurant expensive for business travellers
I've stayed in this hotel a couple of times on business. The courtyard rooms are large and comfortable - good extras like a fruit bowl, bottled water, a bathrobe and decent toiletries. Although it was a cold night, the room was warm enough. Staff were friendly and helpful, also thoughtful - for example, in the morning, they made a broom available at reception, to help people brush the snow from their cars. My room had some steps inside, so it probably wouldn't have been suitable for disabled travellers even though it was on the ground... more

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your review. It was very nice to hear you had enjoyed your stay with us. Since your review we have introduced some new dining options which we hope are more suitable to the budget conscious business traveller. Firstly our 3 course menu has been reduced in price to £39.50. We have also made each course of the menu available separately at a set price. This gives you the option of having only a starter, main course or dessert. A new du Jour menu has also been implemented offering two courses for £20.00 or three courses for £22.50. Our lounge menu has been increased to include a selection of main meals from as little as £7.85. We would definitely recommend you try our du jour menu on your next visit and are sure you would be impressed by the choice, value and quality this menu offers. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Marygreen Manor in the future.

OK, but nothing special despite....
We stayed for two nights in early September 2006 in the Jane Seymour 'Suite' (joke). The rooom was fine, especially considering it's 3/400 years old. Nicely furnished, it was naturally not large! Bathroom modern and well equipped. Dinner was terrible, breakfast good. Staff OK. Hotel quite charming. If you're in Brentwood it's certainly your best bet.
Very pleasently surprised
Two hard to please business people. Male & Female The outside doesn't do the inside justice. This is a lovely hotel, lots of old charm wood and fabrics, very comfortable, excellent staff and accomadion. Rooms big and airy, air con very efficient , fruit and newspaper included in standard room. Places to sit outside in lovely enclosed gardens - you can't believe you are so close to the motorway and busy roads. The restaurent is very very good, a little expensive but well worth it - the taster menu is to die for. The wines are... more

Nice hotel but a little pricey
I have stayed here a couple of times on business and the rooms are comfortable and spacious and well maintained. Even though on a busy road the rooms in the courtyard are well away from the noise and a peaceful nights slep can be had. The Restaurant is too expensive, I'm on expenses and I still chose to eat elsewhere. The rooms are also expensive which is more to do with the lack of competition as not many hotels in Brentwood. I will be back on business and will be happy to stay there again.

Thank you very much for your review. We were pleased to hear you continue to find our accommodation to be of a good standard and it’s nice to know our tranquil setting aids a good night’s sleep! We would strongly recommend you take a fresh look at our menus on your next visit. Our Chef uses some of the finest ingredients available to produce the exciting dishes on our fine dining menu and, although our A la Carte menu is competitively priced, we have been conscious that some guests may find our prices restrictive, especially when trying to stick to corporate budgets and allowances. In reaction to this we have introduced some lower priced menus and dining options including a more extensive lounge menu and a two or three course menu du jour. The du jour menu, priced at only £20.00 for two courses, offers delicious food at an excellent price, whilst a main meal from the lounge menu is available from as little as £7.85 and can be enjoyed in our lounge or conservatory. We are sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the changes made and choices available. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Marygreen Manor in the future.

A night to remember-fondest memories
I was very shocked to hear the comment below with reference to this luxurious secluded treasure of Essex. The Marygreen Manor provided an excellent service and the rooms were clean and to a high standard of decorative order. We stayed in the Brampton lodge which is a modern extension of the hotel. The suites were spacious and the huge double bed was very comfortable. We also dined in the Tudors restaurant which has recently introduced a new chef, the cuisine was sensational, and I have already returned twice since for business... more

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your review. We were glad to read you had enjoyed your stay with us and found our accommodation to be of a high standard. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Marygreen Manor and Tudors Restaurant in the future.

Quaint old manor
I stayed one night on a business trip - didn't eat in restaurant. There are quaint old rooms in the main building but I stayed in modern accommodation surrounding a garden area behind the main building. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was good sized with modern facilities. Fruit bowl and tea and coffee facilities provided but no room bar. Bed was slightly uncomfortable. Buffet breakfast in impressive dining room was fine - selection a little unimaginative.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review. We were glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your positive comments regarding our staff. We were sorry you found the bed to be slightly uncomfortable and would like to apologise for any discomfort caused. All our mattresses are checked and turned regularly and we have received no other comments regarding this issue. However, we will of course monitor this situation and rectify any problems found. We have also noted your comments regarding our breakfast. We believe our buffet offers a good cross selection of popular breakfast items and our English breakfast is freshly cooked to order using high quality ingredients. However we are never complacent and are always open to suggestions from guests regarding particular items they might like to see included on our menus. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to Marygreen Manor in the future.

Romantic Hotel full of Tudor charm
My husband and I had our wedding reception here in December 2000 - since then we have revisited for our wedding anniversary each Christmas. The Tudor rooms are wonderful - the Anne of Cleves room has a stunning marble bathroom. Dinners here are alwys lovely. Christmas is a lovely time to visit - the wonderful original 15th century fireplaces make it really cosy. The rooms surround a lovely courtyard garden - in summer is full of roses. Highly recommend for a special occasion - our wedding reception was handled... more
