This is the oldest Ibis in Birmingham, on the wrong side of the tracks and in need of refurbishment. Stay in the Central one instead. My room felt like it should have been in a 50s holiday camp. The carpet was severely stained such that it had formed its own series of patterns. Most of the surfaces were chipped and scratched. The bathroom ceiling was yellowed from all of the smokers. A good section of the bathroom ceiling paper was missing or hanging down. Good strong shower. Worst of all the loo seat was so worn that the...

Lets down the Ibis brand
from johnnw
We stayed one night at this hotel and it was a mediocre experience. Quite a walk from the city centre aggravated by the last bit being up quite a steep street which is no fun with baggage. Please drive (there IS ample parking) or get a cab. Rooms arranged in two low rise blocks. The public areas were fine, reception staff were helpful and efficient, and the buffet breakfast was good. The room however was a big disappointment. The bed creaked to high heaven, there was a large cigarette burn on the blanket. The bathroom was adequate...

Scary area
from eggybread
We booked this hotel for a night out in Birmingham, as it was cheap, and seemed a good location on the map. It took ages to get walk there from New Street Station, heading further and further away from town, into unlit open areas and away from populated areas. We had to walk along a busy main-road and past derelict buildings. A block of council flats overlooked the area and it felt very exposed. We did NOT want to be coming back to this place late at night... The 10 foot fence and security camera around the place also inspired a lack...

Not nice at all
from A TripAdvisor Member
I completely agree with other reviewers, this hotel really does like look like Colditz and is completely unwelcoming if not a bit daunting. I felt very unsafe during the night, given the location of the hotel (back streets of Birmingham) and could not wait for daylight (and to leave !!) The room itself was average, although there were cigarette burns on the bedcovers and the room itself had a musty smell. The fact that the windows only opened approx 2 inches was clearly a safety precuation, but was most inconveient in the middle of...

Not bad, but only stay if no other option!
from PJBear
I agree with a number of other reviewers on both the good and bad points of this hotel (motel!). It does look like Colditz, grey & dismal with wire fences around it. Rooms are dark and very dingy and as mentioned can be noisy. Both times I have stayed there there have been issues with rooms and noise (Bin men at 5.30am!). It is used by workmen due to its cheapness and proximity to the city centre and yes they can be noisy (although I never had too much problem). If you have to stay there, pick a room overlooking the road (not the...

Good value but only adequate
from MalcolmSu
This is actually quite central and resonably handy for the city centre with the Bull Ring and Broad street within 10-15min walking distance. Unfortunately it looks a little prison like form the outside because of the high metal fencing and security gates around the outside... I'd describe this as a motel rather than hotel. It's surrounded on two sides by building sites at the moment and because of that, and its location, attracts quite a number of construction workers. Nothing wrong with that but they do seem to burn the candle at...

Feels like you are on holiday
from A TripAdvisor Member
I liked this hotel as the motel style made me feel like I was on holiday and there was no need to be hassled by going through the hotel each time you need to go your car. The team were very friendly and have always been happy to help each time I have stayed. Ok it does need a bit of work but over the last 6 months I have seen a vast improvment in the standard of rooms. Its a great location away from the noise of the city centre. I am now a regular and would always stay here during my trips to Birmingham
not what I expected
from A TripAdvisor Member
Well what can I say? I regulary stay in Ibis hotels- as they are value for money. Ths particular one was terrible, dirty & smelly. I booked this hotel three months ago. When I arrived they did not have a no smoking room available. I had to take a smoking room. The room had not been cleaned, wet towels everywhere. It was disgusting. They changed my room which was also smelly!!. The noise was terrible from outside. When you enter the hotel it is like entering a prison (thre are high green gates). Once you enter the small building they...

Only stay here if there is no-where else.

The most grim place I have ever stayed in. It felt like a prison. The room was not clean, and it took 20 mins to get into the hotel grounds one night as no-one would open the door for us. Location is not a good area.
Stop!

Word of advice, IBIS hotels are generally fine, I have stayed in many around the country. This particular hotel is the PITS...! WORST hotel I have ever stayed in, NOT, NOWHERE near the quality you would normally expect from an IBIS. Rooms are tiny and the en-suite bathroom no bigger than 2 large wardrobes... It really is that bad. I asked to change roome 3 times cause they smell, I never was satisfied! ...u have been warned, find another hotel!
