good, cheap central hotel
We booked in here as we were going out with friends in Coventry City and it was one of the cheapest available near to town. The room is an adequate size so long as you don't intend to spend a long time hangin out in your room. The bed was fine everthing was clean and tidy. There is a desk and small wardrobe. The bathroom is one of the enclosed plastic pods but it means there is quite a large shower for the size of room. Again clean and tidy. The towels are only average sizes so if you are a bit on the larger size they might not... more
OK
Very basic hotel, 5 minute walk to the train station. Clean and simple. Staff were really nice. They have a decent bar to sit down and relax. They also had dinners available until late, which was great because I arrived starving and not in a mood to go find a place elsewhere. The room was facing a big road so it got a bit noisy from early morning.
Basic, cheap hotel
We stayed for three nights, we didn't have high expectations for the hotel as we figured we wouldn't be there much anyway as it was just a base for exploring Coventry and the surrounding area. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable however, and the toilet needed to be flushed several times just to flush away a single sheet of toilet paper! The shower was also very difficult to get to the right temperature as every few minutes it would suddenly start to get very hot or cold. The bath was also incredibly small and I doubt anyone has ever used... more
Boring but adequate for a night
Stayed in this hotel for one night and it was perfectly adequate for a cheap night away on business. In my opinion the bed was comfortable, but yes it was quite firm. If you don't like a firm bed you probably won't like this! TV reception was terrible which was irritating as there's nothing else to do whilst staying here! I couldn't have stayed for more than a night here, the room was bare and dreary - all in all quite depressing. The pod style bathroom is quite interesting but would I imagine be completely inaccessible to a... more
Really, Really hard bed!
This is your bog standard business traveler hotel, Its ok but has really hard beds, microwaved (crap) foods (and pizzas obviousely bought in from a local shop- either that or the staff eat alot of them!) and only a continental breakfast. My other gripe was that my room 125 shelt of wee! Not nice! Alright appart from that... Intersesting bathrooms too, 'pod' style and like entering a space ship! Sparked lots of conversations about how they would get them out- could only have been craned in during construction!
Don't book a twin here
This is the second (and last) Ibis I shall stay in; I agree with previous writers that the location and parking are excellent (five minutes walk from Coventry city centre) and the staff are unfailingly courteous and helpful. Dinner is good old-fashioned British microwaved, the edges of the meal welded to the serving dish in traditional fashion. Our problem, however, was that we booked a twin room and expected to get one. What you actually get is a family room, with a large decent double (bed-cover adorned with cigarette burns,... more
An oasis in Coventry
Car parking was available (free!) Reception staff were helpful, friendly, efficient and check in was dealt with speedily. Room was simple in layout, reasonably maintained and more than met my needs; a double bed, a wardrobe with hangers & shelves. Desk area & chair, bench seat, modem & phone points, remote controlled TV, and also had air conditioning if required. Bathroom was cleverly designed, large mirror, well lit with a large roomy shower stall (good shower with plenty of hot water), hooks for bathrobe & wash kit.<br... more
Ibis- No good or bad surprises.
This hotel provides adequate travel accommodation. The rooms are of decent size, and my only gripe was that I requested a non-smoking room, but because it was busy, got a smoking. The bed cover had burn marks and the room smelled of smoke even though I left the window open every day. Apart from this, it was clean and the staff were friendly. The City centre and train station are all nearby. Coventry is a city that has had few favours from the planners. There are lots of shopping malls and underpasses, which are probably a muggers... more
IBIS Coventry
If you want a place that's comfortable, clean and does a good buffet breakfast (continental) the IBIS meets the criteria. It's obviously a chain hotel with no special features, but good for a couple of nights on business or if you're in the area on a leisure break.
