Alton House Hotel

Stayed here for a wedding. Friendly staff and good service both at the wedding and for breakfast and dinner. Rooms were good, but a hairdryer in the room rather than having to ask would be a plus. Shower excellent. Good breakfast buffet and only small amounts put out at any one time, so nothing left to swim ingrease like some hotels. I have stayed at the Alton House a few times now on business, and it's about time I wrote down my thoughts. The easiest way I find to describe to people what it is like, is to tell them it was probably fairly nice hotel.....in the 1970's. Since then, little has been done to it, apart from some new furniture in the bar area. On that note, lets start with the reception/restaurant/bar. The staff are always courteous, but rarely helpful. Where do I start??? My husband and I decided that the Alton house hotel would be a good base for our guests before and after our wedding at a nearby venue. We made a provisional booking for 35 rooms which ours guests called to book. At the same time I booked a room for my husband on the eve of our wedding. I double checked this booking a few weeks before the wedding and was told it was fine and still booked. I stayed at this hotel with my partner as part of a group of people attending a 'murder mystery' evening on Saturday 3rd May in honour of a birthday. We arrived early and had a few drinks at the hotel bar. plesant enough serving staff - although they all very young and didn't really come across as very customer service orientated but did the job!
