Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel

Our visit did not get off to a good start. As I walked to reception the lady behind the desk barked "name.." at me. Taken aback I explained that I simply wanted to know whether I could check in yet or not (It was around 1pm). She ignored my question completely , and barked "name..." again with a look of thunder on her face. Nice. You can't check in until 3pm - despite having to vacate the room by 11am the next morning. We stayed in this hotel in April 06 after a long flight from Australia. It made a refreshing change from the usual airport style hotel. The hotel is 12 miles from Heathrow and we were lucky to be driven there by private car as there is no direct public transport and a taxi costs approximately 50 pounds. It commands a lovely situation - set on a pedestrian precinct a stone’s throw from Windsor Castle and backing onto the Thames River. Eton College is a pleasant 10 minute stroll away. Me and my partner went and stayed for 1 night as a surprise for my 21st birthday. Now i knew from my partner this hotel was extremly expensive, so i was looking for something quite upmarket (perhaps thats just me being young). the staff were very friendly and the hotel was very pleasent. we went to the health/spa centre for the afternoon and it was nice, but i was expecting more, like a swimming pool, or perhaps it to look like a spa, not a gym? we came back for a quick shower, and being in an executive suite you'd think the shower would be... more

We stayed here for an anniversary weekend and took one of their packages. We liked the room over looking the Thames although it was small. The shower sprayed all over the bathroom (why????). The meal was delicious but they charged for service as part of the price and then also left space for a tip. For a 4 star hotel that seemed a bit of a shyster practice. It was a bit awkward as well being in a building away from the main hotel.
