When all other hotels are full....
from WeeFatScotsman
The only redeeming factor of this place is that is in central to town where the are pubs and restaurants are on your doorstep. Silly thing is, don't most hotels have a bar and a restaurant? That to me completely negates the point of this place. The Red Lion is tired and in need of complete modernisation. As stated before, the only reason it survives is its location. Rooms are very basic and IMHO down-right shabby. Single rooms bring on suicidal thoughts and must be avoided at all costs. Can imagine no air con being a...

Book the 'Lion Suite' for very spacious room
from rich005
After reading the reviews on here i was a little wary about booking the Red Lion. However, we wanted somewhere central, where we could walk and have a few drinks and grab some food. All other hotels seemed to far out of Basingstoke for this. After calling the Red Lion they said they had their Lion Suite available. This had leather couch, double shower, jacuzzi bath etc... very spacious room. I must admit, that the bath and shower were not the best i've had, but definately better than most. I would advise if staying at the Red Lion...

Nice room, shame about the view!
from pistou65
My mother and I stayed here for one night as we needed somewhere near Basingstoke station. She booked it because she had stayed there on a previous visit to the town. First impressions weren't great because the card machine at the front desk would not accept my mother's credit card. Eventually it accepted one of my cards. The room was very clean, pleasant and well-furnished - no complaints at all. There were no towels in the bathroom but when we rang down to reception, they brought some up straightaway. The room looked out on to a back...

Not bad....
from GordyB
I stayed in this hotel for a week while in Basingstoke on business. Overall this isn't a bad hotel. It is centrally located and has plenty of parking. The room service was good and the hotel had wifi which was useful for work. The only downside was that I was allocated a tiny single room. It felt a little tired and dated but at the end of the day it was clean and comfortable so not a huge issue.
Business Travellers - Dont Bother
from Barbird
I stayed at this hotel in basingstoke as i was unable to get into the Premier Travel Inn, I really wished the PTI had rooms!!! Dont be fooled by the pics on laterooms. I was allocated a dump of a room, the room was shabby, with mold around the windows and all the curtains were ripped, the bathroom was also not nice!! So I asked to see another room, enquiring if they had any newly refurbished ones!? I was told that they did and they moved me to one of these rooms. Which was better, but not great, they had just put new curtains and...

Horrible Place
from liked_copper
I was going to basingstoke for a course and seen the reviews for the Red Lion, I booked it expecting a nice hotel. The place is the most hideous place I've ever stayed in, I think it does well because its the only Hotel in the town. The rooms are small, dark, old fashioned, it was beyond belief. I would have left and stayed somewhere else for the 3 nights if I could have. The gap between the floor and the door jam was so big I had to block it with a towel. Other people on the course agreed with me, they also had a better...

Central and very clean and friendly - but without airconditioning we had to move
from AussieExplorer
We stayed just one night at the Red Lion Hotel as we couldn't sleep in the sauna-like conditions we were subjected to on the one night we stayed there. It was very centrally located being right alongside the mall, there was adequate car parking and the room we had was clean, spacious and the bed very comfortable. Unfortunately we happened to stay on an unusually hot night and there was no air conditioning so we had to move the following day. Under normal British conditions I am sure I would have given this hotel a top score.
what a find
from swordfysh
We had to stay somewhere midway between London and Bath that was close to the M3. We choose the Red Lion after looking at the reviews and Hotel details. The family room was large and a cot had been provided. We were impressed with the level of service and even more so by the standard of food. We have a 1 year old daughter and this was no problem for the staff who were helpful and attentive. If you are reading this and stay regularly in hotels you would know that 'value for money' 'good service' and 'good food' are not always found, and...

What a great weekend
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed at the Red Lion Hotel in Basingstoke on the 7th/8th April. We wanted a hotel in the middle of Basingstoke as we were meeting with friends in the area and didn’t want to be driving everywhere. The staff were extremely friendly from check in to check out and nothing seemed like to much trouble. The hotel has got a great bar/restaurant in which both our friends and us decided to eat in on our second night. The food was out of this world and the whole feel of the place made it a weekend to remember. I would recommend the...

Wonderful Stay
from A TripAdvisor Member
My stay at the Red Lion was awesome. It was my first adventure in Europe and hopefully not the last. The Red Lion was great, and had very helpful employees. The room was very clean and comfortable. The food was always very good, and the Breakfast service is wonderful. (Mauren you're great!) I would gladly tell anyone to stay at the Red Lion. It's a great place to stay, located within walking distance of the train station, great neighborhood stores, and lots of nightlife (including the pub in the hotel). I loved it there, and can't wait to...
