Comfortable Hotel in the Centre of Town
from lovetotravel1704
We stayed in a double room overnight on Saturday 22 May 2008 when we went for a ride on the Watercress Line Railway in the evening. We found the hotel was in a good location on the high street in Alton. There is a car park at the back and when you check into receiption they provide you with a free parking pass. The hotel is an old coaching inn with some attractive features such as a the central staircase. We arrived early afternoon and were given a room to the front of the High Street. The room was very pleasant and quite large. It had...

OK for a stopover
from reddubbeetle
We stayed on a Saturday night and the hotel is very easy to find in the High St. There is a disabled parking space at the front of the hotel along with a small taxi area, but the main parking area is behind the hotel. The reception give you a ticket to put into your car so you dont have to pay the car park fee. The hotel is a little tired but it is an old english inn so had character with it. There are traditional floor tiles on the entrance which could be lovely and a lovely staircase directly infront upon entering. There is a bar and...

A very welcoming and comfortable stay
from mdeb39
Having booked this hotel at the last minute i was then a little worried on reading some of the reviews on here. We booked a standard double room and found the general areas of the hotel well maintained and characterful. Staff at reception were friendly and helpful whenever we had contact with them, parking is plentiful and , though we stayed on a Saturday night,(admittedly in Feb!),we found there to be very little noise. The hotel is on the high street but there are no pubs/bars in the immediate vicinity as it's all shops/commerce. We...

stayed at this hotel between Christmas and New year. hotel is nice and fresh looking , comfy sofas and nice bar. the room was clean and fine for a short stay. the town is small but there are quite a few pubs and restaurants to choose from. we popped to Farnham and that is also a nice small town.
Ok for overnight

The Swan Hotel looks a nice decent hotel on the outside and I have to say its not bad on the inside, unlike the staff. I checked in at the Swan and was given my room. All seemed well until I opened the romm and had a look around and noticed the pyjamers on the bed and various other things. They had given me someone elses room which I was amazed!!! The receptionist looked bemused and gave me an alternative room which faced the front. It was a decent size with all mod cons and the luxuary of having a bath and looking down on the...

Grows on you
from Verian
The hotel is in the high street, and as already explained is subject to noise, especially on Friday nights. The hotel has a smoking area outside, which is quite noisy up until closing time, then passing 'revellers' from other local clubs & pubs use the footpath through the hotel grounds as a short cut to the roads & car parking at the rear. BUT having said that, it is in the middle of town, if you don't want a bit of noise stay in the country. On first sight the hotel is a bit of a disappointment, it's tired, badly decorated (purple &...

Nice hotel, friendly staff, a few letdowns
from gg109876
Hubbie and I got a late deal, B&B for £65.00. Room was nice, bathroom needed updating and the window which was obviously an original feature of the building was rotten and crumbling with a big hole in the wood and a notice saying 'don't open window' - nice! We ate in the restaurant, I ordered chicken and bacon salad with a warm poached egg (the description was of a lovely runny yolked egg combining with the salad ingredients) and hubbie had a steak & trimmings. Food came but no poached egg on salad and no onion rings with steak. We...

I phoned the hotel on Saturday to make a reservation and was told the type of room required was available but that I would have to send a confirmation email with my payment details. I did this immediately I put down the phone. I also supplied my contact details including my mobile number. I asked for confirmation by return of email expecting to receive it that day...I waited...I finally received their reply on the following Tuesday on my return from a business trip - It had been sent on the Monday. It informed me that the room I wished to...

Not great!
from Nicjosh
We stayed for 1 night on a Sat evening. The hotel is located in the high street and the outside noise kept us awake throughout the night as the lively bars and clubs closed. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was acceptable and reasonably priced. The service at breakfast was appaulling and the food was not great but adequate. The bedroom was abit on the small side and the bathroom desperately needs decorating. Overall the hotel was very disappointing especially looking at the price paid.
Excellent

We stayed here on a sunday night on a bank holiday weekend (28th May '06). Check in was fine, staff were friendly. We stayed in a double room whilst others in our group had a single. Rooms had tea/coffee making facilities, TV, Stereo, En-Suite bathroom with shower. The hotel in general and corridors were a bit on the warm side but staff explained that they were trying to get on top of the controls and would have it hand shortly. The rooms were fine though and the windows opened nice and wide. We had a drink in the bar and ate the...
