Great location & value for money
from parsons1927
This a great budget hotel in fanstastic location for exploring Manchester city centre. You know what you get with Ibis, basic but clean and functional. The hotel is ideally located just off Oxford Road and has a couple of pubs opposite which are nice , Joshua Brooks bar and the Lass O Gowrie(great for real ales) The hotel bar is OK and was quite busy on the Sat night when we were there and they also serve food round the clock which is handy. The hotel is a 10min walk from the shop at the Arndale centre but there are shops on Oxford Road along with lots of bars and restaurants. The buffet breakfast is also well worth having as there is a great selection and it's worth £4.95 you pay. All in all a good hotel for those on a budget in central Manchester
Basic yet perfect!

Stayed at this hotel numerous times. If anyone complains about Ibis hotels then they obviously have an over-inflted opinion of what they expect from budget accommodation. This is budget hotel and makes no claim to be anything else. The rooms are fine, the service is good. This is demonstrated when, on my last visit, a computer fault meant that our booking was inadvertantly deleted. Having seen all of the relevant confirmation details, the reception staff rectified the problem immediately and apologised profusely. It's in a perfect location, easy walking distance to shops etc., and I'd recommend to anybody.
Great Value, Great Service
from worldwide-travellers
Our family stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in October, 2006. The staff members were friendly and extremely helpful. We had a variety of requests (baby needs, computer use, telephone search, questions, reservations, etc.), all of which were addressed by the staff with diligence and care. The room is a little small by Canadian standards but very clean. The housekeeping crew kept it tidy and spotless everyday. There is a cafe in the lobby which serves daily continental breakfast buffet and other casual meals. There is also a nice East Indian restaurant next door. At about C$120 a night, this is one of the least expensive hotels in downtown Manchester. It is within walking distance to both U of Manchester and Metropolitan U, major shopping centre, Piccadily train station, and China Town. As a whole - great service and great value. We'll certainly stay here again.
Nice Basic Hotel
from Xeres25
This was a very nice stay. The hotel is nicely located for all the cool areas of Manchester and only a very short walk to the shopping district. The room was clean and made up every day during my stay. The bathroom was clean and new towels were provided every day. Can't fault the service or the room. Was very good value given location.
Take That and Party!!
from gaunts
Stayed at the Ibis on princess Street whilst reliving my youth and watching Take That recently. I have stayed in a lot of hotels in Manchester including Raddisson, Mal maison and others of that standard. The Ibis was fab, everything you expect and more from a hotel that basically costs £60 a room per night and that includes a rather lovely continental breakfast, really pleasant staff and a quick and easy check in/out service. Great location for china town and canal street. Would stay there again.
Great hotel for the Gays in the Village
from lavabubble
The Ibis is the hotel to stay in for all things gay! Me and the missus have stayed there 6-7 times now and always enjoyed it. Staff are friendly and helpful on the whole. Fair enough it is a budget hotel but the buffet brekkie is always good (if you are into the continental style) otherwise walk down to Maccy's which is only about 10 mins away at Oxford Road. The rooms are basic but generally clean and tidy. Extra pillows are a must though and the bed is a bit crappy but again, after a night on the sauce you'd sleep stood up on a washing line! Always love the bathroom as the pod shower effort is easy to control and always lovely and warm. There is a 24hr Spar nearby as well as the legendary Monsoon's kebab shop. It is also very near Chinatown if that's your bag. All in all, gay friendly, good value for money and I've already booked my room for this August - see you all there!!
Cheap and Cheerful
from A TripAdvisor Member
I Stayed at this hotel for a weekend with a group of friends. The location is close enough to the shops and bars without being affected by too much noise. Rooms were clean and basic, not sure about the module bathroom business, felt more like it belonged in the starship enterprise. The Staff were friendly enough and efficient. Breakfast a bit of a swizz, I prefer a damn good fry up after a night on the town instead I got a bowl of cereal, bread roll and a yoghurt. One only other gripe was the concrete pillows, man they hurt. It took me until 12pm the following day to regain the feeling back in my left ear. The place served a purpose which was a cheapie place to get some shut eye after a night on the pop.
Just OK
from KeithLafayette
Stayed here for two nights recently at the decent rate of 54 GBP. The hotel is very basic, as all Ibis hotels are. My was room decent size, clean and functional. That was all I expected, and that was all I got. Not many praises to sing, but no real criticisms for the price either.
Very gay friendly
from richcardiff
Stayed at this hotel during Manchester Pride 2005. The hotel had gone overboard to be gay friendly - rainbow flags draped over the sofas in reception, gay magazines and safe sex packs on the reception desk and the bar. When we arrived they were even playing the Village People (maybe that was going too far!). Nice clean modern rooms. Openable windows and airconditioning. Great powerfull showers. Good location - walking distance from Picadilly Station, the Gay Village and the City Centre. Friendly staff. Can't fault it really. Will definately stay again
Ibis Charles street - not impressed at all
from Hilde74
We stayed at the Ibis Hotel, Charles' street from Wed 22 to Fri 24 June 2005. We chose the Ibis because it was the closest hotel to UMIST (with available double room), and we didn't quite know how far it was from the centre of Manchester to UMIST (hard to get a grip of distance when looking at a map). It was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel, because when we looked in it seemed to be a cafe. But to the right there was a counter with the reception. Friendly staff, but no non smoking rooms avaiable. The receptionist changed our room though, so we thought we got a non smoking room after all. First impression of room was good - until we got to the other side of the bed. There was a huge black stain on the carpet, right where you get out of bed. Also found the room to be a smoking room after all, but it didn't smell. So we didn't want to change room, since a smelly room would be worse. The room was rather small, no place to place the suitcase, so we had to unpack it totally and use the wardrobe. The bathroom was small, but nice. We also got a towel (to put on the floor next to the shower) with black stains on it. The sheets seemed clean though. The worst thing was the bed. It was far too hard for my back! It hurt the rest of our stay in Manchester, even though we stayed in another hotel (with wonderful beds) the next two days. Breakfast was simple, but OK. Staff had problems filling up the buffet with food and juice, and filling up cutlery, plates, glasses and cups. They also didn't have time cleaning the tables for the next guests to sit. It was better the second morning, it seemed there was one more on duty. I would never stay at the Ibis again, because of the bed. The stains I could live with if we still were students with low budget, but since we have ordinary income now I wouldn't consider this hotel again. I would definitely stay at the Arora (our second hotel). But if my husband would travel alone to Manchester, he wouldn't mind staying at the Ibis...
"Does exactly what it says on the packet". Best description I can think of to describe my two days in the hotel. Location is great, close to a lot of top end bars, numerous restaurants and far enough away from the Printworks end of town to secure a decent nights sleep. ... more
