A last resort
from monkeynonk
There are very few good hotels in the area and most of them get booked very quickly. Therefore there is not much pressure on the hotels to perform well. This is summed up by the attitiude and style of the farnborough holiday inn. The hotel has the potential of being great. its a pleasant old building that has been renovated a few times over the years. But its shwoing its age again. Check-in was awful. The staff seemed to think they were doing you a favour y letting you check in. They made me feel like it was my fault that the room type I ha booked wasnt available. Reception staff attitude was apallaing. Eventually got the room, having navigated some dark dirty corridors, and had to go outside and back into the hotel to get to the room. The aircon wasnt working properly, the door to the cupboard came off in my hand. There was a very loud noise coming from above the ceiling - it may hjave been the heating system ot water pumps for the hotel - it went on all night. I ordered room service - it was the wrong order and cold when it arrived - and expensive. The hotel is a long walk from any kind of decent restaurant (apart from wings cotage which is an excellent chinese restaurant about 15 mins walk away). I was pleased to leave. Do try other hotels in the area first - frimley hall hotel, pennyhill park etc., or for a better holiday inn stay in Woking.
Great value for money

We spent just one night at the Holiday Inn, Farnborough. It was a Saturday and they were fully booked, so it was very busy. Although we checked in fairly late (11.00 pm) the process was smooth and the staff were pleasant. Our room was on the 1st floor, a good size and quiet. The hotel offers a good range of services in the room inc. mini bar, hairdryer, good sized tv, ironing board, etc. Generous with bathroom toiletries and towels. The breakfast on Sunday morning was very good indeed. Friendly staff and plenty of everything - even though we were fairly late down. The breakfast room was bright and pleasant. There are free newspapers in reception if you would rather read than chat, particularly after a heavy night! Our only complaint was that there was a faint odour of stale cigarette smoke in the room. As non-smokers this was unpleasant. Some areas of the hotel could do with attention due to wear and tear. However, the service and facilities more than make up for some battered edges here and there. Would recommend.
Not bad
from withalittlecharm
Stayed here for five days in February. I was in the downstairs extension part of the hotel - a fair distance from the function rooms so no problems with noise mentioned by other reviewers. The rooms themselves were reasonably sized, were kept spotlessly clean throughout my stay and air conditioned which worked well at keeping the room warm during cold weather. My room rate did not include breakfast - as it's 15 pounds a sitting make sure this is included in your rate! The range of food was about average for a 4 star, though the trays of cooked breakfast weren't hugely appealing. I didn't eat in the restaurant but other members of my party did on first night; they weren't impressed by the food at all so we ate at other venues in farnborough (the hotel staff recommended some places - the Gurkha Palace nepalese was very good). Didn't use the on-site gym, others who did mentioned that it was what they'd expected of a hotel gym - fairly old equipment. The pool looked reasonably sized. Overall, the hotel wasn't anything special but no problems with it so if ever had to stay in this area would be likely to use it again (with breakfast included in rate!).
Great Stay
from Fledermaus
Struggling to find a hotel in the area with a good review I booked this with some trepidation The staff really made our stay they seemed very obliging and willing and friendly. The room I was in was upstairs in the extension but was quiet and clean, although the only executive part I could find was the bathrobe and slightly newer furnishings and a different brand toiletries It was great to have a mini bar with snacks and drink. Other party members rooms were nearer to the function rooms -lower ground and the noise from the disco would have driven me to distraction had I been attempting an early night. If staying ask for a quiet room away from the function rooms if you don't like to party til 1am The food for dinner was good and the buffet breakfasts very good if a little expensive Would have no concerns about booking in again
Delightful Stay

I have stayed in many Holiday Inns around the world and I found the Farnborough Holiday Inn to be a charming hotel. The staff were courteous, the rooms very clean and the food excellent, especially the breakfasts. My stay was on the 28th and the 29th of October. The first night I did experience some music noise from the function room but this ceased at 1am and was not overly loud. I would not hesitate to stay there again and would be happy to recommend it.
It Stank!

This is the worst hotel i have stayed in.Its a 2* hotel at best.My family and i stayed there on 13/08/05.The reception staff did not want to talk to us let alone greet or help us.The hotel is better described as a pub with a carvery. Our room was in a very poor state dirty and a veiw of a scrap yard.
Holiday Inn much better than Potters International
from bk2ca
Stayed here for a week while working in Farnborough. Found the accomodation to be ok. Nothing special, but room was very clean and bed decent. Heath club on property was nice with large pool, spa, sauna and workout area. Restaurant not bad - service very slow - but typical. Airconditioned which was wonderful. Down side - only dial up - so if you are traveling on business this is a BIG problem. It's much better than Potter's International down the street which is very impressed with their " wireless" service which costs $10.00 US for one hour. Potters is not airconditioned, rooms are stuffy, and there are no screens on windows so they can not be opened unless you want to invite the outside in.
Awful Nights sleep
from A TripAdvisor Member
I was staying here before I was due to be a bridesmaid. I didn't get any sleep at all. During the night all you could hear were people screaming which room they had to go to. It felt like the door was opening a lot of the time making you feel unsafe. If you want a pleasent nights sleep do not stay here.
Very poor hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Holiday Inn farnborough is quite a poor example of the Holiday Inn brand. A recent stay (Jan 2-3 2005) saw these problems Pillows with no pillow cases on them Bathroom with mix and match tiles - very bad condition Breakfast in bed had five day out of date yogurt included. The bar had no Vodka! Breakfast was a rip-off at £17 ($35)
Best of a poor selection...
from daifly
Farnborough suffers from a deficit of hotels. It's quickly becoming quite an business centre, largely owing to the development of the airport into the UK's leading business aviation facility, but nobody seems that keen to build a chain hotel to take up the business. However, having said that the Holiday Inn is a reasonable hotel, which has benefited from refurbishment in the past couple of years. Air Conditioning has finally been fitted in all of the rooms, which is a good thing as it was a very stuffy hotel before. The staff are generally very friendly and good which makes it less lonely when you're on your own with business. Facilities, not bad, decent garden to sit in with your beer, restaurant OK apparently although I've only ever eaten in the bar, which is OK-ish - but quite variable. Not sure about the leisure stuff, but it's got a pool I think. Area's OK, close to a couple of excellent restaurants, the Ghurka Curry Restaurant (very different to your standard Indian Restaurant!) and Manhattan (Italian - run by a genuine Brooklyn-ite, though how, or why!, he ended up in Farnborough!?) On the whole, best of a poor selection, but certainly usual Holiday Inn standard, so it's not that bad! Other hotels in the area, especially Potters International or Lakeside, avoid like the plague!
