Good Value, great food
Booked on a Ramada Jarvis break for 2 of us, 2 nights B&B with dinner on first night for £149. Hotel room was nothing special but clean and spacious enough. Food for both breakfast and evening meal was really good and although the restaurant was packed for breakfast on the Sunday morning after a wedding the night before the service was excellent. Pool is a bit small but sauna was fine and again service at the Leisure reception was excellent Overall? - worth a visit if you can get a deal. (NB for the second night ate at the... more
What A lovely Hotel
The hotel and its staff where fantasic. My wife and I stayed there for a weekend away and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel, so we didn't. We stayed in the hotel and enjoyed pool and the atomspher in the bar and, just relaxed. We were just expecting a few nibbles for breakfast but there was a full English or a lovely continental spread with cheeses fruit pastries etc. The pool is lovely, and the pool attendants was very helpful, when I realised I... more
Shame about the food
I booked two double rooms on line at a reasonable price of £75 each, though breakfast was not included. On arrival we were able to book breakfast in advance at around £6 each. The rooms were excellent. Comfortable, well equipped, roomy, and quiet (overlooking a very pleasant garden). The receptionist on arrival was very helpful in arranging early access to the rooms. Now for the downside: the food is awful. Do not eat there. Do not even think of eating there. As we were pressed for time (before heading out to a wedding) we... more
Comfortable Rooms - Great Breakfasts
We took a 3 week driving tour of Gt. Britain in June of 2005 but are just now getting around to responding. We spent 4 nights here, using it as a base for touring Kent, and the surrounding areas. Had a marvellous time visiting such places as Penshurst Place, Hever Castle, Bodiam Castle, Leeds Castle, Chartwell, and even made a quick drive down to South Wales to see Tintern Abbey! All in all, we were very satisfied with using this hotel as a 'home base'. Our spacious room was clean, comfortable and well outfitted - very relieved to have... more
Terrible food - don't know how they have the nerve to serve it
Had to take an elderly relative for Sunday lunch so chose the Ramada thinking it would be suitable. Food was truly awful - dried up meat, even more dried up fish. It was almost inedible. Puddings were completely synthetic. Cheap wine with big mark ups. Would we go again? Never.
A safe bet
I stayed at the Ramada in March 06. I got a good deal via their website. The hotel itself is about a 3-5 minute drive from Tunbridge town centre. As someone who has stayed in a lot of so-called quaint English hotels as well as lots of American chain hotels, I would say that the Ramada Jarvis is a safe bet if you are looking for a clean, quiet and comfortable chain hotel. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were very clean and spacious enough (I stayed in a Double Executive.) The only downside to the hotel is the food.... more
Very disappointing
We stayed here for a our wedding night plus another (two night break). We had the "Room at the Top" and the venue knew that it was our wedding night. We were treated like business clients! The room was good (but very business like), the food in the restaurant was good (would particularly recommend Sunday lunch) and the pool facilities were good. But the service and staff attitude was terrible. We were offered nothing as a bridal couple at the time of booking, when we arrived in all our wedding regalia we were not welcomed or... more
All very.....OK
I'm currently a long term resident in the RJ-Tunbridge Wells (the hotel's actually in Pembury about 3 miles away). The hotel is very......standard and doesn't pretend to be anything it's not - it's just a simple purpose built 3-star catering for business travellers and summer coach parties of elderly Dutch, German, etc. tourists. Rooms are a fair size, clean, well laid out with all the basics, once you've removed the dozen or so items of advertising that hotels invariably clutter your room with. A mini-bar refrigerator would make... more
Watch Out For Fiona The Receptionist!!
Watch out being told one thing by reception and then getting in trouble over it! We had some wine in our room but forgot the corkscrew. We were told by reception that it would be ok to come down and have it opened at the bar without incurring the charge as we had spoken about it already. However, got down there, it was opened and the manager tried to charge us for corkage! I explained that Fiona (watch out for her) at reception had said it would be ok and he said that Fiona is just a receptionist. When we went to see Fiona with the... more
Management response from A TripAdvisor Member

To the gentleman who wrote "Watch out for Fiona the Receptionist" I find this rather exaggerated...and feel sorry for the next Receptionist that has to endure this... This particular hotel is one of the best in the hotel group and does the Ramada Jarvis name proud. Fiona Gorringe

Purpose Built/ Fair Value
Purpose built hotel not pretending to be anything it isn't. Rooms were clean, food was quite good and the prices for a hotel were fair. Its a 10 minute Taxi ride from the local station.
