Express by Holiday Inn Hotel

We stayed in this hotel as it was the only one available at the last minute for what we wanted. A base to explore the Kent Countryside and visit a friend in Whitstable. It was as other reviews say cheap but it was certainly not cheerful. When we arrived its in the middle of nowhere at the side of a dual carrigeway, its a pain to get into if you're cmoing the wrong direction as you go through tons of windy roads to get to it. We spent 2 nights there at the end of January 06, rooms were acceptable but dusty, the worst part was the bar area - overpriced awful meals and limited brands of beer, they will allow you to send out for a take away but a delivery charge of £5 is levied by the take away company for the privilege - staff friendly, cab into city centre was £12 ew which obviously has to be taken into account when you cost the whole evening, spoilt the weekend really.

Situated a few miles outside Canterbury, which makes a car essential, and if travelling from the south rather difficult to find out how to get too, it being situated on a busy dual carriageway, behind a petrol garage. It is a typical Holiday Express hotel. Clean, comfortable and an excellent all you can eat breakfast. Sadly, like many hotels of its ilk, you are only too aware of the noise of other guests. We used this hotel as a stop-over on the way to Dover but stayed for 2 nights to be able to spend some time in nearby Canterbury. Overall I was very happy with it. HIXpress accept up to 17 years olds as children which was a big plus travelling with 2 kids. The inclusive breakfast was very good and easily worth the additional cost over Premier Travel Inns etc. There was a small bar with food available (although we didn't order any). Nice friendly hotel, very close to the A2 trunk road, but noise did not seem to be a problem. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean but compact. Breakfast very basic, but that was all we wanted. Marked as a four in view of cost - have used it twice on way to France, it was cheap, convenient, and friendly. Not very convenient for walking to anywhere.
