awful experience
Me and my partner booked this hotel for two nights bed and breakfast last weekend and were really disappointed with it. We were given a pokey little attick room which was noisy and cramped. We went down for breakfast the next morning and were told that we were booked in as room only, so we left the restaraunt and opted for a meal on the high street which was cost us half of what the hotel was charging. I work as deputy housekeeper with best western in Southport so I got in touch with them and they confirmed our booking was bed and breakfast.... more
Fabulous
Charming, historic, close to everything, including the London train 5 minute walk away - there is nothing negative to say about my experience here. I smoke - and they gave me a smoking room overlooking the main street. While a little noisy with the windows open I am not a light sleeper so this was fine as well. The room was decorated in old Country style and the bathroom was very clean - and has a bath tub! I can't say enough about the staff, the bartenders and everyone I associated with. There are alot of locals that hang out in the... more
Great Food
We stayed at the Rose & Crown Hotel last night, the food was the best we have ever had! Rita in the Restaurant is very caring. Our Bedroom was very clean and we think nely refurbished. The Hotel is having all of the public areas refurbished. This is one Hotel we will go back to.
19th century accomodations
Centrally located in town centre was the only good thing. The staff was nice, but not efficient. We were here on business for a month. Transferred from the Langley Hotel down the road because it was worse, so we thought. We really had no other choices so we stuck it out. The first room we were in had no cold water. We were told to run the water for awhile and then it would get cold. After 20 minutes, I thought it would get colder . . . . it did not. The second room we had had cold water . . . when we had water. Avoid if you can....
Rooms - small and dirty. Staff - offhand and uninterested. Food - pretty awful. Location - central would be kind but noisy would be more accurate. Bathroom - dirty, poorly appointed with useless appliances. Ambience - partly interesting old building, and partly what looks could have been a 1970's sheltered housing project joined on the back. Overall conclusion - don't bother, it's not even cheap.
Really not worth the money
Stayed 2 nights as a short break. My unsuspecting partner thought its location was good - right on the high street and proximity to Hever Caslte. We had no problem finding it on arrival in Tonbridge. The historic aspect of the building itself was also a seemingly attractive point. However, we found the place tatty, shabby and less than thoroughly clean. The carpet in our room had lots of stains and water marks and really, was not good enough for a branded hotel. The floor boards creeked so much! Despite claiming in their in-room... more
Never again!
My husband and I booked in here last week for an evening as we were attending an evening wedding reception. Having been shown to our room, down long dingy corridors, we found ourselves in the attic room and the heat was unbearable. To cool the room down we opened the windows and pulled back the grey net curtains, only to discover that the traffic noise was terrible. In addition the bathroom was very small, the shower was no more than a trickle of water and the cold tap was barely running. The room itself had a very... more
Hot and bothered
I spent a night at the Rose and Crown Hotel in Tonbridge and decided to go with them rather than the Ye Olde Chequers Inn so we could have an en-suite room. I booked a triple room for myself and 2 friends and expected 2 twin beds and a sofa bed. When we arrived we checked in and made our way through the long sloping corridors and up numerous stairs until we got to the room which had 1hideous pink double bed the most uncomfortable sofa bed in the world. The room was badly laid out and dusty and the radiators were full on so the... more
Refurbishment Overdue
This placed looked promising: Ye Olde Inn right on the High Street opposite the wedding venue we were heading for. No problem finding it, no problem with reception quickly providing an easy-to-follow map to the complimentary barriered parking behind. But the room was a disappointment for £99 a night (we've had 3 and 4-star in good bits of inner London for less). It was in a shabby outbuilding accessed by a key reluctant to go in the lock, let alone turn, and the whole place cried out for refurbishment. Our room was clean and quite... more
Avoid the restaurant!
I'm a Tonbridge resident, and on St George's day my girlfriend and I decided to eat there for Sunday lunch. We arrived at around 1:00pm - peak time - to find the 60-capacity restaurant had just three other diners in it. This made me suspicious. The £16.95 St George's Day menu offered a choice of average starters, from which we both picked the leek and potato soup, some 'English' main courses - I picked battered cod and chips, and the missus picked roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and roast potato - and some 'English' desserts - we both... more
