just a few things to take on board!

Jul 2010, blondie

Arrival was good, and reception staff very good, apartment clean and tidy with toiletries. Although I did ask for low level and double bed, I got tp floor and 3 singles, but the beds can be pushed together.
Food was ok, not for the fussy eater or children that are not use to vegetables and meat, pizza came out once a week, nuggets also once. Puddings not great but then if all inc you have the free ice cream.
Staff behind the bar i personally didnt find helpful or friendly, you are only allowed to get 2 drinks per person at the bar so if you have children they have to go to the bar with you or you cannot get them a drink, the drinks are served in plastic cups - less than hal a pint, bar snacks are just crisps....
Word of warning if going with children...the pool is too deep to stand in!! the pool goes from 1m50 - 2m 60 (or something) not good for weak swimmers, childrens pool very small.
Entertainment very poor, bingo everynight in 3 languages!! bar closes at 11pm for all inc, then you have to buy your drinks!
Place is lovely, beack is beautiful and clean, no nightlife, so idael for people with young families.
I wouldnt go bakc with my children as they got very boared with the same food everyday, and nothing to do all day.

dont worry about the reviews written about this hotel, just returned from a very enjoyable week there. You get what you pay for. You can't expect to pay three star price's and get five star. The foods fine, and you can eat in the morning between 8am+1.30pm. so you don't need to get up early.sun beds around the pool always available, so no need to be up at 6 with your towels. The fun team Rhyan, jenny+charlott are great, really friendly. And the hotel staff are also helpful and always ready for a chat, eventhough they are over worked. Always the same staff on morning, noon and night. Lovely beach too just across the road. Also no problem with the shuttle bus, as others have reported. No hesitation in returning here again.

I was very worried after reading reviews about porto colom but was glad they were all wrong, porto colom is a beautyful place, the beach is tidy and the resturants are all delicious and very reasonably priced, if you want a good night out you can get a taxi into cala d'or although some bars do open untill 6am in portocolom. me and my boyfriend stayed in a studio apartment which was above a spar, we couldnt sleep at night because there was a generator under us that ran all night, although all the other apartments seemed fine we just got short handed. reception are very friendly apartments were clean and no cockroaches i didnt see 1 the whole holiday. weather was beautyful even though we went at the end of may start june. id def go back.

Hotel ! a joke more like fawlty towers

Mar 2010, disappointed ola cecilia holidaymakers

On arrival we were given a key to room across the road. Appauling room, smelt disgusting with overpowering plugins making the smell worse! We asked for a cot which was not in room! We asked to be moved to which we were told by an unpleasant staff member it would be extra 12e per day! We didnt change but to our huge disappointment a female couple were upgraded a couple of days later at no extra charge. I feel the decision was so unfair as we have a two year old girl (priorities!) Nothing in this small place, run down, ants everywhere. Staff disheartened. We travelled to cala dor most days to get away from it. I would not recommend this holiday to anybody. We kept our apt clean with bleach etc. therefore we had no ants but no thanks to ola ! Hated this holiday. The beach that everybody says is nice is okay. Its small with hardly any room on it in the afternoon. Very expensive place. Staff were unpleasant and were doing just what was told of them. They were robots. I will never be here again. The thing that most annoyed me is the female couple geting upgraded to a better room for nothing and yet we have a two year old and when we asked they wanted 12euro a day!! How on earth would they want us to return after this unbalanced decision. Dont ever go its fawlty towers honestly

I stopped at the Ola Cecelia complex with my sister in September 2009.
First inpressions where that the reception is not featured in the brochure, which is seperate from the apartments. It looked shabby until you walk round the back to the pool area. The reception staff were great and dealt with any questions and queries effectively.
The local area is quiet, would not recommend this for young people looking for a lively holiday. very quiet especially at this time of the year. The best going for this place is the beach, which is fantastic.
The pool area is clean but very cold! The room is nice but basic.. almost to basic for self catering! our room smelt a little and had ants in it. Rooms supposed to be cleaned 3 times a week but I had to complain to reception 5 days into our stay as our room hadnt been cleaned yet. Leaving us with no toilet roll, clean towels etc.
There is night time entertainment, but is starts quite late, and is quite poor. You have to find out information about the local towns and it really is what you make it out there.
Overall a nice holiday but not sure i would return at this time of the year again!

myself my husband and our 4 year old son stayed for 1 week in ola aparthotel cecilia. On arrival it was very clear it was rock bottom basic. We were escorted to a completely different set of apartments down the road by a completely disinterested female member of staff who watched us struggle with 3 cases,a crying child and various bags up 3 flights of stairs. She then pointed to a room and turned back down and left us there. On entry the room was awful with 3 balconys overlooking a stunning beach but not suitable for us.On finding a hair wrapped around cutlery in the drawer we insisted on being moved.after much humming and hawing we were relocated to the actual hotel cecilia grounds and a very basic but clean apartment.had we not complained we would have beem fobbed off in a rotten room. The pool was lovely and clean and easy to get beds.we ate out every night and the vista sol accross the road was fantastic, really lovely food and nice staff. Not so nice was the arena blanca with rude waitress(german) and when our child was sick 1 of the staff gave my husband water to clean it up himself. When my husband later complained about their attitude he was told he should have paid to clean it up.my son was sick on the ground outside by the beach wall so dont know how you can be charged for cleaning public path.horrible unfriendly and food was only ok.AVOID.beach fab.lovely and quiet.

Porto colom...hmmmmmmm

I just came back from a week in porto colom and stayed at the ola cecilia. We checked in at about 2 in the morning, we were handed our keys and the receptionist who spoke little english just pointed out the window as to where our studio was, it was pitch black and would have been nice if we were actually shown but we found it fairly easy.
The air conditioning is set on a 12 hour system and you need a remote control which you have to leave 20 euro deposit for. We hired the remote control and the first day that the cleaners came in to the room the remote control went missing, we searched the whole room but it was no where to be found so we reported it to reception who then spoke to us like naughty children, insinuating we had lost it or not looked properly which was not the case, we did however get a replacement. This location is ideal if you want a very quiet relaxed beach holiday, the beach was great, just a stones throw away down a big set of stairs (which would be quiet hard to climb if you have walking difficulties etc). Crytal clear waters , watch out for the jelly fish though, quite a few children got stung. Water is very shallow so ideal for children to paddle in and play. We did not eat in the hotel, there are 4 or 5 resturants, we found the player arena the best, food was great, friendly couple that work there michael and justina made us very welcome as opposed to el cactus next door where a memebr of staff was quiet rude when we only ordered drinks. There is no nightlife at all in porto colom and the hotel drinks were expensive, 10 euro for 2 bottles of smirnoff ice. Cala d'or is a 15 taxi ride away, 14/17 euros, lots of resturants, the jungle resturant was great! Again not really much in the way of bars so if you want to party this is not the place to go on a boys/girls holiday! Back to the hotel, our flight was at 12 midnight and we had to check out of our room at 12 midday, we asked about booking the room for the rest of the day but could not as they were fully booked, we asked for a courtesy room so we could have a shower later in the day, which we got for half hour, just something to bear in mind when booking your flight times home. Had a very relaxed time and it was nice and chilled but if it hadnt been for the great location of the beach it would have been very boring as at night there is nothing to do, hotel entertainment wasnt much to speak of so we just had a meal and few drinks and went back to our studio.

Tranquility itself

Booked a few weeks before we went, direct with Ola Holidays through Teletext. We wanted a nice quiet, chill out week and that's exactly what we got. No raucous behaviour, and no night-clubs. Fantastic!
The room was as described, with twin beds, a 2 ring stove with banshee sounding like kettle (most amusing). The air conditioning was very effective, and if left turned on came on whenever the balcony door was shut.
Despite the exchange rate, it was very good value. Breakfast 4 Euro @ the hotel, and dinner was 6 Euro (then went up to 8) and just bought it on the day if we fancied it rather than going elsewhere. The few bars/restaurants that there are, without going over the beach to Porto Colom itself (the Polish one there was superb), were all very friendly. Everyone said how quiet it was for the time of year, and prices seem to have come down. A pint of very cold beer ranged from 2.50 to 4 Euro, and wine was 2-3 Euro a glass.
The pool is lovely, but when the hotel gets full it may be too crowded. Going there out of school holiday time certainly seemed a bonus. The beach (2 mins walk away) is vast though and beautiful, with soft sand and clean water. Both the pool and beach have an attentive lifeguard, and the pool is cleaned everyday.
The only problem we had was when the key broke in the room door, but that was fixed without fuss, with a replacement lock within 10 minutes.
There were some ants outside, but didn't find any in the apartment. They only accumulated in any number if a drink was spilt, and word seemed to spread in the ant community!
We went out every evening so can't comment on the entertainment (didn't interest us) but those who stayed in seemed to enjoy it.
Transfers from and to the airport were arranged through resorthoppa.com and they arrived to collect us bang on time.
I'd highly recommend a trip there, if you want a chilled out break with pool and beach.

I arrived quite late at night to the ola cecilia apartments with my family to find a 24 hour reception. we got our keys and headed for the apartment, we couldnt see much as it was very dark however we found our room and settled down to sleep. Comfortable rooms, 2 single beds in one room and a sofa that folded out into a double bed in the living room area. We were woken up in the morning by Chickens! we couldnt see them on arrival as it was too dark however as we stepped out the apartment in the morning there were around a douzen chickens. After being woken up by the chickens we got dressed and had a walk over to the restaurant for breakfast, Not bad, couldn't fault the breakfast at all. The waitor/waitress was always very friendly and always offered a helping hand.
The day went on and we had a swim, however because of the time of year the water in the pool was freezing so that swim didnt last very long!! but the pool area was very nice. only a two minute walk away was the beach so we had a walk over to the beach and had a really nice relaxing day by the beach. The rest of the week followed the same pattern. We were woke up by the chickens pretty much every day then ended up spending our whole holiday on different beaches. We had hired a car so it was easy for us just to drive to different locations to go shopping or to different beaches.
the location is stunning and the food from the restaurant was fine too. The entertainment was fine, we won each of the activities almost every night as there were only few people there!!
This holiday is fine if you are looking for a really quiet beach break however i do not think me and my family will be returning for quite some time.
