We went in august to stay at the Burstin for our 40th anniversary..we had a really clean comfortable room and was well happy. the food was really good and plenty to coose from and the entertainment and staff 100%. Considering it is a 2 star we felt the whole break was just perfect and we will return again. we are middle aged and can be termed as fussy.. but both of us came home very happy.thank you!!

Myself and 3 friends have just had a weekend at the hotel, the decor was very 70's, the bedroom was ok but the bathroom smelt damp and there was no extractor. The bedrooms were extremely hot and there was no air con anywhere. Food was ok. Would not recommend it to anyone.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights, in april 2011. This was the worst place we have frequented in our lives PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS. The room we stayed in was dirty and the bathroom was absolutly filthy, i had to clean this before it was used. Did we eat any food at the hotel? NO.

As a family with a 13 & 14 year olds who in fairness refered to it as "gods waiting room" we were not dissapointed,to those that moan about the food? we arrived late on the first evening for dinner & yes we had to make the best of what was left, however, we made sure we dined early after that & the choice was pretty good,as were breakfasts. you get what you pay for, & as we have stayed in many places all over the country & in the US & have stayed here often purely for the cost, it is a lot less than premiare inn etc on pro rata basis. you want 5*..4* go elsewhere & pay for it, with a turn over of 400 people a day it does well.

just got back from a four day break at the Grand Burstin, we went with some trepidation after reading some of the so called reviews, and found most of the complaints to be a load of rubbish. The trouble is some people expect 5 star treatment but are only willing to pay 3 star prices. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were very helpful, the food though basic was quite good, in fact the breakfasts were excellent, although the hotel was full the bar service was first class never having to wait more than 5 minutes to get served, we were so impressed by the value of this holiday hotel we are booking up to go again in June!

It is obvious that this hotel would not be in business without the coach parties. There is a policy of discrimation in force at the bar. If you have decided to pay for your drinks in advance in an all inclusive package you are relegated to one end of the bar for "service". The rest of the bar is for cash customers who have priority and are served first. Woe betide anyone who tries to buck this system.
Rooms are reasonably clean but the windows look as though they haven't been cleaned since they were installed, which is not a bad thing because the view from all sides of the hotel is one or dereliction.
Food is good, plain and simple and was impressed that breakfast was available at 6am for those going on trips.
However stone cold fried eggs on one day did not go down very well, (I tried ten eggs). Overall I would give this hotel 5/10, so it wasn't all bad.

Dec 2010, Tired

We went for Christmas 23/12/2010---27/12/2010.
On the night of the 24th the hot water system started making a loud noise at various intervals during the night resulting in very little sleep it sounded like a road drill. On complaining at the reception desk to Christine (manager or assistant manager) she said that she lived there and because it was an OLD HOTEL these noises occur and that we have to live with it so the guest will have to. The maintenance man said without hearing the noise he couldn't do anything so walked away.
On the last day I was down stairs at 4.30am couldn't stand the noise any more.
The last 2 days we had no water in the bath we decided not to complain as we expected the same answer again OLD HOTEL

My room didn't appear to have been cleaned before I checked in. The the tea and coffee facilities had clearley been used - most of the supplies were gone and the cups were dirty. This led me to doubt whether the room had been cleaned at all. The food was nearly all gone by the time I got to it at 7.30pm and what there was I couldn't eat. i thought maybe they were just short staffed that weekend, but since returning have read reviews and it seems this is standard practice.

The worst hotel experience ever

This hotel is dirty, the lifts broke, the staff are rude. The canteen, or read "Harbour Restaurant" is far worse than any school. Even if you book a Premier room as we did, it is dirty, stained, the bed is lumpy and you can hardly see the seaview through all the bird droppings that cover the windows. Even though we booked the Premier option we were sent to the canteen where the food was inedible and the wine, as in "three course deluxe meal with wine", is just left in your room, warm with no glasses or corkscrew. Please avoid at all costs, we checked out early. Whilst at the desk complaining three seperate groups came to complain that there tea/coffee facilities in their room had been used, which leads me to doubt whether they had been cleaned at all between occupants. Also it doesn't matter whether you book smoking ot non-smoking they just ignore this and say that central reservations requests it but they can just ignore it, as they had done with us as well as two other parties we overheard whilst we were waiting to check out.

My wife (70 yrs) and I (64 yrs) booked this trip for 7 nights via a bus travel company. I read that there were rooms with no showers and emailed the head office a week before arrival to try and secure one with a shower as my wife has problems getting into and out of a bath. No answer. I emailed again 2 days before arrival no answer so I then called them direct at 16.50hrs. I was told that they did answer me and found that on that day they did 10 minutes before I called them. They redirected the emails to Folkestone and resent my email on that day. I was told at Folkestone by the reception that they do not answer emails, rather ignorant as far as I am concerned. Our room had NO shower and I went to reception regarding this and was told that my wife could use the public shower in the pool area. I made the comment that she would look odd washing all her bits inside a swimming costume in a public shower, which costs £2.50 for their pool and asked if they were having a laugh, nope serious. No hand rails around the bath to assist getting into or out of it. If you’re infirm forget it. One socket in the room 3m from the mirror, and one window for ventilation. Disconnected warm towel rails so how would you dry your swimming costume or towel if you use the pool? Luke warm bland tasting Catering packet soup every night. Warm food that was tasteless and 2-3 selections not including the salad bar. Dirty cutlery, chipped crockery, cold chips to say the least. A fast food type restaurant, however, if you want to pay £5.00 per person you can eat in the proper restaurant with table cloths and waiters etc. No drinks, not even tap water, served at the meal you have to buy your drinks at the bar. To get served there you would be advised to stand near the till and wear bright clothing to escape the Invisible mode. Decor is in need of a revamp, damp stains and broken tiles on the ceilings and the lounge furniture isn't any better. I sent a letter of complaint to the Head Office and would you be surprised to know that THEY redirected it to Folkestone for them to deal with me direct. Strange that a Head Office does not seem to want to know what it going on with their hotels eh? I got an answer from the manager at Folkestone, like their food = bland. 4 Lifts and regular breakdowns. No further contact from Head Office, so I guess they dropped it after all.

Whilst my stay was relatively okay (if a bit noisy) one of the hotels dated throwbacks lead to me being robbed. Whilst at breakfast my room key was stolen, the culprit went up to my room and stole my purse! Had the hotel been issuing card swipe keys for rooms this theft would not have been possible. Instead traditional keys with oversize plastic fobs are issued, these are deliberately designed not to fit in the pocket so you will hand them in.
On discovering the theft the hotel proceded to do absolutely NOTHING for me. No details were taken, no duty manager called, absolutely nothing other than the offer of a phone to call the police. I was actually stranded in Folkestone...not that anyone at the hotel seemed to care....they didnt ask!
To make matters worse, an email complain led to me being told by the Hotel manager that I should have used a safe deposit box!! I work in Customer Service and find this totally unacceptable...
