I USED TO WORK AT THE HOTEL BACK In 1986 its where i met my husband. I love this hotel such happy times, so when my husband sugested we go back after 24 years to see the hotel i was so excited all memories came flooding back, but the heart of the hotel had been ripped out off the building, reception was still the same, breakfast which had used to be the bar was good and clean but never heard of napkins. the bedrooms where clean but very basic the bathroom was not nice the loo had wee marks down the front. all the bathroom needed a good dose of bleech. so very sad because I love this hotel and all the memories. used to be a beautiful place to live and work.
- Advice: beautiful building , bedlinen clean, bathroom, take bottle of cif.

My wife and I stayed here as we were attending a wedding at the nearby High Rocks, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
On arrival a Scottish gentleman on reception made us feel most welcome, and even carried our luggage from our car to our room, which was most helpful, as my wife is slightly disabled.
We found the staff to be very friendly, and in particular the Italian head waiter who served us a very nice breakfast in the morning.
Our room was spacious and very clean and offered a fantastic view of the common. We were transported to and from the High Rocks in a courtesy bus, which was most thoughtful of them.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to future guests.

This hotel is a very old building, which travelodge have tried to make their own - and failed!
I read the reviews and was worried about what to expect, but figured for a bargain of £9 a night - I could at least enjoy a weekend of sleep away from my kids!
I was not dissappointed, one reviewer said the furnishings were sparse, well no what has happenned is that Travelodge have put their regulation bedroom fittings into rooms which are huge with incredibly high ceilings! - I could have parked my car in there too!
My big bugbears were the lift - please either fix it or take the signs down. the receptionist was happy to sort me out a room on a lower floor - but I stuck to the 2nd floor and was glad I did as the view of the sunrise was amazing from my bed looking out the sash window. the other annoyance was the lack of ITV reception - please fix that!
the bathroom was small, and needed a lick of paint but in my mind that just added to the quirkiness.
the floorboards creaked, but that was no where annoying as the inconsiderate fool at 7.30am on sunday morning whistling the great escape inthe corridor outside my room! I have stayed at a marriot hotel at £200 per night where the floors creaked just as badly!
this is an old building - but it is a clean as any travelodge I have stayed in, the bed was comfy, the roomlarge and warm and the staff very polite (although I think the poor receptionist actually lived behind her desk as I didnt see a different all weekend!
Go, stay, enjoy the quirkiness of the hotel and the beauty of the area!
if you want square, new, sameness stay in one of those boxes on the side of the motorway!
