More Traveller Reviews of Ola Hotel el Vistamar
A difficult one to review
from SkyBlueArmy1
Myself, my girlfriend and 2 of our friends stayed here for a week. We didn't stay through choice - we were booked to stay at another hotel and were told upon arrival that they had overbooked and didn't have a room for us. So the El Vistamar was the only hotel that still had rooms left - hence us being sent here. The overall experience was pleasant. The pool was nice (but really cold), the beach was only a 10 minute walk away, the service was good, the entertainment was poor (but the entertainer was good), and the food was awful. I'll try and break it down: Room - tidy and cleaned everyday. Nice balcony with reasonable views. But you could hear a lot of noise coming from surrounding rooms. Pool - There are 2 pools, but we only used one. It was nice - very cold - with a nice waterfall in an attempt to make it more attractive. Be careful though - quite a few people cut their feet at the bottom of the pool and not once was anything actually done to prevent it happening again Service - Very good. Most people were friendly. Look out for a waiter called Ben - he was excellent. Entertainment - Oh my God. Not good. The entertainer, a lovely girl called Nina who is very good at cards, did her best. But her material that she had to work with was not good. If you see that they are doing a Grease show while you are there, then plan a night out!! Food - This was my biggest let down. Breakfast was lovely. A great variety and something for everyone. However, dinner is a different story. I don't like salad and I can't eat fish. That left me with one choice pretty much every night....Veal!! They have a fascination with veal. I've never had so much of it in my life. Come the last night of our holiday, I had to eat out because I just couldn't face it again. We only stayed for a week - I could never have eaten there for two. There is no variation and it got very boring and monotonous. On the whole, we enjoyed our holiday. However, I think it was more a case of making the most of what we had. If you come here expecting a 3 star hotel, you won't be disappointed. But if you pay for a 4 star, you may be.
Perfect Holiday
from FamSnoeck
Our familie 2 adults and child of 5 years stayed for a 11 day holiday in El Vistamar. The room with refrigerator and airco is perfect. Every day the room is cleaned ! The 2 swimming pools are perfect and child friendly. The swimming pool SOS is allert and really helps if needed. The restaurant at the swimming pool is very good. The breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant are both perfect. All is fresh and very good prepared. The people in the restaurant are polite and helpful. The animation at the hotel is very enthusiastic. There is a mini disco for the children and other amusement.
Relax and Enjoy

This Hotel is Good, not great - not 4 star (3 I'd say) but it is the perfect base for a great holiday in what is a gem of a resort. Porto Colom is ideal if you want to relax, recharge the batteries, mix with the locals and enjoy great views. If you're looking for lots to do, endless bars and restaurants then this is not the place for you. The Hotel has everything you would want - two great pools, lots of sun loungers, tennis, gym etc. Do get a Sea View room as the view aone is worth one star. The staff in the restaurants, bars, kids clubs were great, so friendly and helpful (the reception desk however dont display the same warmth which is a real shame!). Kid's Club is a 4ft by 6ft shed next to one of the pools with very little for the kids to actually do and yet the entertainment team make up fo this with their energy. The food is OK, breakfast has the typical offering, cant comment on the evening meals as ate out each night (and found some excellent places for dinner). Evening entertainment is worth a look even a couple of nights for a night cap as it's so bad it's good - a mix of professional and thrown together! In practical terms the hotel is one hour from airport, rooms basic but cleaned daily, towels changed daily and plentiful, hire the sunbed towels, fridge, safe - most are a returnable deposit. Balcony lights go off at 11.15pm ?? The hotel is a 5 min walk to the town square (which is a bit run down yet has a great atmosphere at night partic when live music playing T/F/S) or 15 mins to the Harbour Area but it's a beautiful stroll along the seafront which only ads to your evening. Of places to go I would recommend Bar 51 for drinks and Tapas (it's full of locals and great atmosphere) - sits behind the hotel. At the Harbour go to Sporting Club Fidel bar for pre-dinner drinks, it's simply one of the fnest establishments, with the best views, then head next door for dinner at HPC - in my view the best restaurant. I hope Porto Colom does not become a destination for the masses as it's charm is in it's size and position.
Lovely tranquil location.

We just returned from this lovely hotel, we enjoyed everything about our stay. In a tranquil setting, thus aiding relaxation. We did not find the 3 corner site inconvenient at all, and the short walks between facilities was in fact rather pleasant. Food - breakfasts, provided lovely fresh fruits, cereals, eggs, bacon, ham, cheeses, croissants,.... and more.... Evening Dinner - provided, a wide choice of salads, sea food, always a choice of meat and fish dishes for main courses, and a variety of sweets, and cheeses, and fresh fruits - I could go on. . Absolutely nothing for anyone to complain about, in the catering department. Cleanliness - the hotel was very clean, and our room (junior suite), was very well maintained during out stay. Similarly the public areas and pool areas of the hotel. Staff - friendly and helpful. We wanted to change our dinner time, no problem. The Pool towel exchange very successful too. Entertainment was varied, and some very amateur, however not expecting West End standard, we enjoyed it on the whole, As this place is off the beaten track, it is adviseable to have a car if you want to see something of the island. For the energetic, without a car, then there are some local, lovely white sand beaches, which people fitter than me managed to reach for their rest and relaxation. I would recommend this hotel for couples and families with well behaved children.
Overall pretty good but food was shockingly bad

I travelled with my wife and two young sons (7 and 4) The hotel is in need of a little TLC and needs moderising. The location is nice and quiet and away from the mainstream Butlins style hotels and entertainment. The pools are great for adults and kids and the animation team do an OK job of low key events. The food was amazingly terrible, it became a great game to see what you could recognise, if you could put food onto your plate you could actually eat and whether you left with a full stomach. Although we were half board, we ate out a couple of times which was totally neccessary. Overall, it was actually a great place, location and had excellent service. If you book direct with ole hotels on their web site, you save a few hundred pounds and therefore it becomes value for money. I do like to complain about hotels, however, apart from the food, it was a pretty good place. May even return.
Great Hotel

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend in Porto Colom, we stayed at the El Vistamar Hotel. When we arrived at the hotel our room was not available as the hotel did not receive confirmation from the travel agents we booked with. The receptionist advised us that we would have to wait an hour or so until she spoke with the manager. We left our luggage there and went for some lunch. When we arrived later the manager greeted us with some champagne and told us that as the room was unavailable she had upgraded us to the Junior suit at no extra cost. The junior suite over looked the port at one end and the sea at the other end. The suite was really spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The only bad thing about it was that the water was really salty. The hotel had a large bar with friendly staff with different events on in the evening. We had who wants to be a millionaire, dance show and a quiz night. The breakfast was the best we have ever had at a hotel which included full cooked breakfast, cereals, fruit etc. Good service and loads to choose from. Everywhere in the hotel was clean and well maintained. The hotel was situated In a very clean quiet area about 800km from the beech. If you want to get out and about then we would recommend hiring a car which is quit cheap in Mallorca. There is a fantastic natural beech called el trenc about 45minutes drive from the hotel. To the north of the hotel there is a nice bar/restaurant, the owners are very nice – would recommend it. See attached photos taken from hotel.
fair to middling hotel we went for10 nights &wished it was 5 !

Strangly considering it was high season the Sauna, and Indoor Pool was closed. For a 4 star hotel there was a charge for the safe and fridge, The hotel and grounds were however clean and tidy.Meals were a bit repetative and the restaurant was always full up and requiring a wait on occasions. The nearest beach (Cape Colom) was a good twenty minute walk away with 54 steps down or a longer walk for level access. Porto Colom contained many abandoned or closed bars and restaurants which was disappointing as was the lack of decent shops.A hire car or taxis are essential to see anything resembling a real town! The harbour however was very picturesque.
Almost there..

When we arrived at the El Vistamar, it was at the end of the evening dinner time but reception phoned through to make sure that we were given a meal, which was much appreicated! The room was adequate, but we decided to try our luck and next morning, we asked whether there were any rooms with a better view available. They accommodated us with a room on the sixth floor, which had amazing views. However, that night we were both woken up at 5am by the most horrific smell coming through the air con system in our room. We mentioned it at reception after breakfast and a very bored looking receptionist said that it was the sea at low tide, it happened all the time and that was how it was. We returned to our room and the smell was still vile. After talking to other british holiday makers, we realised that it was just the part of the hotel that we were in, with the older air conditioning system, with pipes that connected to the seadrains overflow. After much heated discussion with the receptionists, neither of whom thought that we should be complaining, we were offered another room. The air con was poor for a 4* hotel and on two occasions we were informed that the air con was not working and they were waiting for an engineer. The restaurant was canteen-style, the food was average, there was no option to eat outdoors, which to us is fundamental when on holiday and there was a distinct favouritism towards the Germans. It turned out that most of the staff were actually German, however the additional irritation was the pressure people were put under to leave 'on the nose' of the restaurant closing time. The radio was constantly on in the restaurant and was turned up to an intrusive level durng the evening shift, regardless of requests to dine in peace. They also had a very questionable recycling system...we had reheated chips one breakfast time and reheated mixed vegetables the next morning! The pudding section was also poor, including the omni-present three 'flavours' of Angel Delight... The entertainment was poor - more like a Butlins than 4* and the PR lady was insincere. On one occasion she suggested a table for us to sit at and we chose another. She found me and told me off in the middle of the restaurant, saying that we had to sit where she told us!! On the positive side, the pools are good, the grounds and well-kept, the time of year meant that we could find sunloungers with ease and the bike ride we went on was very enjoyable, if not slightly hard work! Porto Colom is quiet and picturesque and has some quite bijou shops. We recommend the Starfish trip to Cala d'Or, although stay on the beach as Cala d'Or is predictably full of holiday tourist shops. We hired a car for two days and had a glorious time driving around the eastern coast and up to the north. We will return to Majorca, but it will not be to the El Vistamarrrrrrrrr!!
Hotel El Vistamar

Stayed at the Vistamar from 9th Sept for 1 week after our cruise. After reading the reviews before our travel we felt quite optimistic, however, we were very disappointed. The hotel boasts 4*s though we would liken it to a rather mediocre 3*. We found the fayre in the restaurant to be quite entertaining as every morning there was chips for breakfast accompained by mixed vegetables etc.We had prior warning that the restaurant and pools were across two different roads but found this quite annoying when you were trying to dodge a thunderstorm to get your evening meal. The location was in our opinion way too far from both the beach and the handful of shops and restaurants in the resort.A car is a must.On a more cheerful note we can recommend the Meson Ole restaurant just down the road. It was brilliant
How peaceful!

If you want a lovely hotel in a very peaceful location this is the one. We went without any children and as it was just after the school hols the guests were mainly like us without kids or couples with little ones. We had a junior suite so we also had 2 balconies and an lounge area. The bathroom was a good size and the rooms were kept to an excellent standard of cleanliness. We found the staff there to be very friendly and most helpful, especially the reception staff. The waiters and waitresses were very polite and I think they liked it when people chatted to them and didn't just treat them like workers. We found the selection of food at meal times was quite varied and perfectly good. The hotel is a little unusual in that it is spread over three main areas but they are all close together and it's no problem. The village itself is a little fishing village and so is not prone to all the wild party life that some people seek on holiday. It is a lovely place to unwind and relax and we met people there who have been back 10 times for just that reason. We hired a car - do it from the hotel reception as it is a lot cheaper that the ones the holiday reps organise and the car is delivered to the hotel and colected from there. We drove right up the East coast one day and then acroos to Palma another day. The roads are quiet and it is lovely to drive without traffic jams and irate impatient drivers. Altogether a most enjoyable and relaxing week. Woul drecommend to anyone wanting the same.

I stayed a week with my 14 year old son and brother. Pools small but adequate. Plenty of families seemed to enjoy it as well as couples of all ages. Staff very helpful and friendly. "Sister Act" show was dire but the singer and pianst were excellent. One word of... more
