palace fit for a king!!
from gmwhite
Have been going to this hotel for over ten years and have been more than impressed every time. Beautiful hotel, lovely staff and excellent service. Good restaurants both in and around the hotel. Good location for peace and quiet whilst being central enough to explore the surrounding towns and attractions. A must see when visiting in august is the fiestas in the local towns and also visiting the blue lagoons and caves on the coast. Popeye village is also a must see if travelling with children!!
Grubby, shabby and not 5 star
from pjmdp
This hotel is definitely past its sell by date. The manager and the elderly staff need replacing by some more enthusiastic and with up to date ideas and standards. The hotel is grubby and shabby. The carpets along the bedroom landings are filthy and stained. My bath was badly chipped. The towels were worn out (remedied on complaint). There was no 5 star treatment at all. We came away for a complete rest. We felt as if we were a nuisance. We were grumbled at for failing to book the courtesy bus 24 hours beforehand. Breakfast was chaotic - coffee inevitably cold. I have never experienced worse service than in the Corithian Dining Room. The spa facilites had to be booked four days in advance. There was no pool service ( nor towels) on a Sunday. I could go on... Avoid this hotel.
OK hotel if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel 2 nights in September ( we arrived at 7a.m. the first night !!).Very nice welcome early in the morning, friendly staff and nice to have a cold juice after the flight. Had asked for a quiet room, and really got it !! But a room without any view - faced the poolarea. But on the second floor we only looked into the spa walls a few metres away !! Nice breakfast ,and we had a wonderful dinner in the evening. Stayed around the pool all day, nice and quiet even if the main road is just outside the hotel garden. Check out at 12 o`clock, but there was a luggage room which we used and took a stroll in the St. Anthony`s gardens opposite the hotel until time for us to leave. A nice hotel in the quet town of Attard, the same distance to the airport as the more touristic areas of Sliema and St. Julians.
Disappointing
from BouncerCat
My husband and I spent a week here in September and have to say that we were very disappointed with both the hotel itself and the level of service from the staff. The public areas of the hotel are lovely and the spa too is good however the bedrooms we stayed in needed some serious refurbishment. The first room we had was so damp that the paint and plaster were falling off the walls and the bathroom had missing tiles and a rusty bath. The carpets and bed linen were also 10 years past their best with nasty stains and holes. We complained about the room and were given a slightly better one, but not much. Being a relatively young couple (in our early thirties) definately put us at a disadvantage as we were looked down upon by the older members of staff who are obviously only used to dealing with people over 50, consequently our complaints were not taken seriously. My advice to anyone wishing to stay here is not to expect a 5 star hotel - I would say a shabby 3 star is more fitting.
Relaxed, great service, but needs refurbishing
from MikeJCartwright
Have recently spent two weeks at the hotel where all of the staff were fantastic. Food good, and the atmosphere was relaxing. Some bedrooms and the spa need refurbishing quite badly thoough. The new management at the spa need training, organising and waking up. The hotel is not for young families. Value for money was good. Over forties, business and special occasions - ideal.
Past it's best
from GeorgeGB
It is an inexpensive place to stay, but having said that it is depressingly tired in appearance;as you arrive the picture is pretty grim and the inside is worse.Everything is just 'past its best'. The lobby is not extensive and the 'shops' are pretty tatty and the bar smells of stale beer and smoke. The rooms are dismal and faded and quite depressing, the only redeeming feature of this hotel are the low prices. Service at breakfast was inept and uncaring and the food limited in choice, the crockery is old and in some cases damaged. This hotel may have the requisite boxes ticked to be able to hold on to its 5 star status but only just. The reception desk is perhaps the only area, apart from the doorman, where there seems to be a friendly proffessional approach.
Great Hotel
from sheilatravels
Stayed here in October 2006. A lovely hotel and the welcome received on arrival, great. Our room was large, clean and very nicley furnished and do not agree that it needed refurbishing as other reviewers state. Perhaps the corridors may need refurbishing before long. The room had tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes and nice toiletries. Linen also great. The public areas are really nice, clean and comfortable, as are the bars and cake cafe. Nothing is too much trouble for all the staff, from the cleaners to pool staff. Pool area is a lovely tranquil spot (not music thank goodness) and excellent pool service. The spa is great, used it everyday for swimming, steam room and sauna. Did not have time for treatments but other guests said that they were great. We had only booked bed and breakfast but we did buy a package to eat dinner there for 3 nights. Trouble with this is that you have to use the set menu. The night we used the Rickshaw restuarant (we had read great reviews) the set menu was like a not so good chinese takeaway, so very dissapointing. Other guest who had had the al a carte menus reported to us they had enjoyed the food. Breakfast is what you expect for a good class hotel. So go al a carte for dinner. Place to eat across the road next to San Anton Gardens, Melita restuarant is excellent, highly recommend as is the Medina restuarant in Mdini, (ten minutes by bus). But book to avoid disappointment. The bus service on Malta is excellent.
Lovely, old-fashioned hotel.

I was concerned, having read some of the reviews of this hotel, that my holiday would not be enjoyable, but I must add to the reviews of this hotel, as I think it is a gem; perhaps a diamond in the rough, but a diamond none the less. The hotel is in a pleasant suburban area of Malta, which is quiet but does mean that there are not many shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The local buses are very efficient though, and the bus stop is only about five minutes walk away - we went to Valetta and to Mdina by bus. The buses, although ancient, are cheap and regular. I will agree that bedrooms, bathrooms and corridors could do with refurbishment, and they will no doubt receive it in due course, but most people do not go on holidays to spend their time in their bedrooms or bathrooms. The pool area of the hotel is one of the best that I have ever encountered, with plenty of trees and shrubs around to ensure that everyone has a little privacy and plenty of dappled shade. The food was good, although I felt that the Corinthia Room is a little chilly, both in terms of temperature and of atmosphere. This hotel is the type that appeals to those who do not go on holiday seeking 'entertainment', but who want a quiet place to sunbathe and catch up on their reading, without disturbance from aerobics in the pool or anything similar. I very much enjoyed my stay - which unfortunately was curtailed due to an overbooking in the hotel which meant that we had to move to the Radisson Bay Point in the tourist zone - and would go back to this hotel.
Just what we had hoped for

Have had a great time at the Corinthia Palace. It lived up to our desires and more really. Mix of ages - anyone of any age would feel comfortable if you want a quiet , relaxing environment. Located in middle of island in nice suburb with 'colonial' feel, old buildings and villas in Maltese stone, all well kept and nice church in the centre, with shop if you need provisions and couple of wine bars/restaurants with the San Anton Gardens next door - worth a visit. The wine bar near the gardens we didn't make it to but heard good reviews from other guests. Would agree that hotel isn't 5 star - more 4 star but i heard on the grapevine it is being refurbed on a grand scale this winter. The rooms themselves were comfy and had all we needed just need a little revamp in terms of decor really as a bit 80's I suppose and bathrooms a bit tired. In fact the vibe of the hotel was a bit old fashioned but in a nice way - it was very traditional, welcoming ( the customer service is FAB!) - you felt like a guest not a number. We tried out all the hotel restaurants and apart from one night ( when a wedding was on ) the food was superb . You still had the flexibility even though we were half board ( you get an allowance to use if not dining in the main restaurant) to have one night sitting by the pool at the pizzeria, or having a chinese ( very popular - book in advance) or having a 4 course a la carte silver service candlelit dinner in the sumptous surroundings of the main restaurant. The Caprice Lounge we loved for a pre or post drink ( cosy and candle lit with piano music) and the Pool bar lunches were great and the staff there super. The buffet breakfasts had a great choice to suit everyone. The only thing I would say is if you are a veggie then there is not much imagination in any of the menus at the hotel. The spa we would highly recommend - we treated ourselves to a number of treatments and they were all excellent and the facilities were just what you needed to help you unwind and chill out. There were several guests at the hotel who return again and again so that is always a good sign. We booked with Chevron Holidays - would recommend them too. Basically if you want peace and quiet, a relaxing holiday with lovely facilities and food in a nice area go for it.
Corinthia Palace
from Malta_Vistior
I have just returned from a weeks stay in the Corinthia Palace in Malta. Before we left i read many reviews on the hotel and was slightly confused as it seemed you either loved or hated the hotel. Overall I had an enjoyable week, however i would agree that the hotel is not up to the 5 star standards that i have experienced elsewhere in Europe. The hotel has a charming apprearence and the lobby area is up to standard and the reception desk is very helpful. The rooms were not as comfortable as we would have expected but all the necessary ammenities were present and the rooms were overall very clean and tidy. Breakfast is a strange experince as there is an overflow room which is vast and you feel slightly out of the way as we did if you arrive late! One day however one of the breakfast rooms was not open and we waited at least 15mins for a table but in the end were sent back to our room as there was no space and we had our breakfast sent up to us. We ate in all the restaurants in the Corinthia Palace and overall found the food delicious however we felt that the service lacked. One night whilst eating in the oriental restaurant we waited an hour for our main course and after asking several times where our food was were offered no explanation. It was obvious that our order was forgotten as it does not take an hour to make a stirfry! The Corinthia Room restaurant was very grand and the highlight of the hotel. Be warned though the dress code is very smart and 'jackets and ties are preferred'. Not ideal as my brother only had jeans and t shirt! The spar and pool area were excellant and the pool bar also had some tasty food on its menu. We hired a car for the week which we used every day, visiting the Mosta Dome, many beaches, Peter's Pool (our favourite destination) the capital Valletta, popeye village and many other places. Driving in Malta however is very stressful as the map seem to show roads in the future and most of the roads are small rough tracks! Overall though we had a great holiday and the weather was great.
This is a very elegant and comfortable hotel. Good facilities (indoor and out door pools) Good staff.
The hotel is well established and is in the centre of the island. There are courtesy mini buses into Valetta.
I have stopped there twice and will be stopping a third time next month.
