Better than what the critics say!
We have just returned from two weeks at the Osborne. The price/quality relation is ok! We had a room on the first floor facing South Street, ear plugs perhaps advisable if you want to sleep long but otherwise quiet, clean newly renovated, beds excellent. The staff in the hotel are friendly but don't forget you are in southern Europe. We had B&B and evening meal which was acceptable but of course with repetitio in the second week. Botton line: you get what you pay for, go for a room on 1st or 2nd floor.
Comfy with a great staff
I was desperately searching for a decent, clean place to stay. I spend one horrible night at a guest house around the corner. The next morning I arrived praying they had an available room! YES, I was able to find a room! CLEAN, Comfy bed, room, great shower....Nice hotel clerks. I left too early for breakfast. It wasn't the most expensive place in Valletta (and certainly not the cheapest)... Just the closest and such a lifesaver!
golden
The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, the room although a little dark was very clean and comfortable, if there was a fault the air con was a little under powered, Considering the history of the building the use of the space has been well planned and the recent updating of lifts, bathrooms etc make this hotel a comfortable place to stay, its location in Valetta is a bonus. We were on a bed and breakfast stay so did not sample other meals and the one let down was the eggs at breakfast but all the plus marks outwayed this small... more
Two nights at the Osborne were more than enough
A very disappointing stay! We read of its old world charm and comfortable rooms but found ourselves in a room which was small and dark, with a dirty toilet and smelly bathroom. On asking for a better room, the receptionist gave us the keys to two other rooms to find one we preferred; both turned out to be equally unattractive. The receptionist was polite but indifferent to our concerns even when I asked for the remote control for the TV set which was mounted high, in the top corner of the room. Here too, I was asked to take my pick of the... more
Sleepless nights and ripped off!
Moved from the British Hotel after two nights due to the noise of the lift. We had great hopes for this hotel as the receptionist seemed very friendly and helpful. We booked in for the next 9 nights at the room rate we were told. The room was very small but recently refurbished - we were told it was quiet though. However we soon discovered that the windows in the hotel kept out no sound, church bells every 15 minutes, binmen doing their rounds at 4am and workmen throwing things in the skip below our window at 6am. To add insult to injury the... more
Very nice staff but worn out rooms
We spent 3 nights at the Osbourne on our trip to Malta. The entrance & building looked nice but... the room was awful : damp + stains on the floor (water dripping from the air conditionner), dirty (found a cockroach in the bathroom), the window was over the bins... breakfast was just OK but the staff @ reception desk were really nice, which is unfortunately not worth the money
Excellent service and accomodation
We stayed at the Osborne after Christmas and New year and had a wonderful time. The staff were very attentive and friendly and responsive and were helpful at all times. The accomodation was very good and the close proximity to the bus-station and town centre an absolute bonus. Would always reccomend it to all friends and family.
Loved the bathtub!
Very clean, good sized room. The bathtub was wonderfully long, easy to stretch out, although not very wide. The beds are old, saggy and lumpy, the springs creaked everytime we rolled over. The inclusive breakfast left a lot to be desired - the toast was pre-cooked, then re-heated as needed, the milk for cereal was warm, the fruit salad was from a tin, the croissants were dry, and we had to pay extra for bacon and sausage, which was just slightly warmed. The coffee/expresso/cappucino/tea all came from the same dispenser and all were... more
Smelly, dingy and small
Found the room tiny, with stains on the carpets and with a powerful stench of damp, mould and decay. Window looked out onto a wall about 3 feet away, and all was very depressing. Reception slow to come to the desk. The bar was OK though... Tried to find a room elsewhere asap, would not stay here again.
Nice Hotel
I stayed at the Osborne in Spring 2001. The service was friendly and helpful at both reception and in the bar, and the bar itself was very nice. The rooms could be a little small (it's in a very old building with no room to change things much). The restarant was rather disappointing and we used to go to the Meridien Phoenicia for Breakfast with friends who were staying there when we could afford it! Overall, a nice place to stay. The "Above average" rating is for the staff, who were friendly amd helpful but not overbearing.
