I have recently returned from the hermes. We didnt choose this hotel, we were double booked. I was a bit worried by some of the reviews!

The location is not a problem, in fact its quite good 1/2 way between beach and old village. its approx 8 mins to the nearest shops etc down the hill and a 15- 20 uphill walk to the old village. the huge hill from the beach to the Hermes is actually only a slope. the hill to the old village is more challenging, you need reasonable fitness for it1 but from the hermes to the beach its fine, the only problem is that the road is busy and there is no pavement.

The rooms are extremely clean. regular towel changes, I stayed in the self catering studios, these are large, but not that well equipped if you were wanting to cater at all.

i tried the breakfast a coulpe of times, i had no problem with it. The extra items are inexpensive and if you buy a continental breafast in kefalos you get exactly what the hermes supply.

the pool was quite large and there are always plenty of empty loungers.

all considered, its good value for money.

Just come home from a wonderful holiday at the Hermes, all the family who ran it were lovely & could not do enough for you. Breakfast bit basic but you could purchase more than toast or cereals if you wanted to do so. We were the only English people on half board & the food was good home cooking, it was a shame more people did not have a evening meal except when it was the all you can eat buffet night. Diane was so nice & friendly that she started asking us what we would like best for our evening meal & I got tips off her how she cooked certain things!!!

Car hire from the hotel was very good & very cheap. Pool area & bar excellent & food very reasonably priced, lots of sunbeds.

The slight slope walking back to the hotel was not bad at all & it was nice to have a walk after you have been eating & drinking.

The quiz night on a Sunday was good fun, find out what you can before the quiz about the family & that we will help you answer some of the questions.

We met lots of friendly people staying there who had been for numerous years & we would certainly reccomend anyone to go there.

I never make comments on a hotel until I read the reader who put the Hermes Hotel down for reasons that point out to me that they are miserable from the get go. The Hermes Hotel was a nice surprise to me. After traveling to Europe throughout the years, this hotel was a nice surprice. It was very clean and if you had any complaints, there was always someone available to you to fix those problems immediately without any disagreement.

To say that Nick was unpleasant, you must not have any children of your own. He was an enjoyable, layed back person. The person that wrote this comment must be really stuffy and what they need to do is stay home and open there own resort and control all the iffs. I wish them good luck.

As far as the hotel, it was very reasonable and given the English dollar to the Euro...what do you want EVERYTHING. The hotel was very clean. Food was made available to you throughout the day for a very reasonable price. You can get anywhere you wanted because right outside the door was a bus that took you anywhere in the island, throughout Greece, etc. The time schedule was available for you to plan your entire week.

If you wanted to stay by the pool or take a walk, there were many choices for you. I would definately go to this hotel again.

I can only imagine that the review was written by someone in the nearby area who does not know what they are talking about.

Sorry but cannot disagree more with the previous review about the hermes. We are a family of twelve who have returned for the second year to this hotel and believe me it is hard to please everyone but not one of us had any complaints. Yes the breakfast is toast and jam but not mouldy with tea coffee and juice i agree that the breakfast is very small but it does mention continental breakfast. We all had rooms on the ground floor but never had any ants in the rooms, last year one of our rooms had a few ants but this was because some of the kids had been eating biscuits and once this was stopped so were the ants. We received a letter from Thomas Cook before we left to inform us that the air con was payable locally I suggest that if the holiday makers were not informed of this they should take it up with their tour operator. Yes fans were for hire but this also happens in alot of other hotels in both Greece and Turkey. Maybe the tour operators should put a note in the brochure to say that kettles and fans are available to hire.

The rooms are beautiful after the modernisation and have the best showers that I have ever used abroad. Dianna makes sure that all the rooms are cleaned to a very high standard 6 times a week. The pool is cleaned daily and if you are an early riser Sebastian can be seen doing this at about 7.30 every morning. I cannot comment if Nico used bad language or not however we never experienced it. This family cannot do enough to help you out.

The pool is really big and has fantastic views, the constant breeze helps to keep you cool during the day. The pool bar sells everything from Greek Salad to pizza all reasonably priced.

From the bus stop opposite the hotel you can get a bus to Paradise Beach, Mastihari (beautiful small resort, with fantastic beach), the aqua park, Tingaki and Kos Town. The fare varies, Kos Town is the furthest away and is only 4 euro each way (less if you have children under 12).

In the evening have a walk down to the front we recommend Captain Johns, Marias Restaurant, Santa Barbara, Sebastians (with free internet cafe) for your evening meal. For a drink in a friendly atmosphere try the taverna just after the memories taverna it is ran by two brothers so we just call it brothers bar. The guys are really nice without being in your face and drinks are cheap, sky sports is shown on all of their screens but is not loud as it has the background music also. For comedy, hypnotist nights etc head for Sydneys Bar further along it has a buzzing atmosphere most nights. Along from Sydneys is Bar 52 it is looked after by a really nice young English couple and they do fab cocktails. Sebastians is a little walk further along from here.

All in All Kefalos is a fab resort with something for everyone and Im sure you wont be disappointed with Hermes Hotel.

Our holiday at the HRMES HOTEL was a nightmare from start to finish, Upon arrival we found that we had to pay for air con, a kettle and a fan and there was no meeting us half way as we was not told about this prior to our arrival, The breakfasts was a joke mouldy bread with jam, we had to pay for the air con for one day as my partner was not well but they cut the air con off after 18 hours not after 24, be carefull if ur unfortunate to go there as they will try and charge you for everything, Also take lots and i mean lots of repelant as all the rooms are infested with ants, Even though Diane and her husband came across as nice which they have to realy, becarefull to keep kids away from there son as he swears like a trooper which i whitnest on a few ocasions, we will go to kos again but NOT at this hotel, BE WARNED.

I have just finished reading the reviews published and I must say what a load of rubbish! We stayed last year and have booked up this year to go again. The reviews stated that breakfast was a slice of mouldy toast, they would never have served such a breakfast. Although we were self catering the food served at the hotel was as delicious as any taverna in the resort.

The staff there were fantastic and Dianne and her family were most hospitable.

I cannot see how anyone can complain about the location of the hotel, it clearly states in the brochures and on the internet about the location. Most Greeks islands for instance Kefalonia and Kos are hilly.

The rooms were as substantial as any in the Greek islands. What do they expect?

The biggest selling point of the Hermes Hotel is the joint owner Diane who is a lovely lady and she adds something to the holiday with her friendliness. The worst point about the hotel is its location being at the back of the resort up a steady hill on the main road. It takes about 15 minutes climb to return to the hotel from the main amenities in Kefalos.

The swimming pool at the hotel is large whilst the breakfast was very basic. We were initially given a grotty room but when we complained to Diane bless her heart she moved us immediately to much higher standard room. The rooms do differ tremendously from very good to pretty awful. It seems if its pot luck to which standard room one is allocated.

I am not sure in high season we would have been able to move and this something for anyone booking here to bear in mind. Kefalos itself has a very good choice of tavernas- Argo, Rainbow and Sebastian’s were our favorites.

The beach however was rather dirty. If you want a fairly central location then the Hermes Hotel is not ideal especially if you do not like hills. The resort is probably best suited overall to couples.

The support and loyalty to the owner Diane is understandable. She is a lovely lady and nothing is too much trouble. However you do not stay at a hotel purely for the owners.

You cannot get away from the fact that the Hermes hotel is situated at the back of the resort up a steady but long hill and one has to walk along the unpaved main road which can be dangerous at night.

It takes about 12 minutes downhill to the tavernas and shops and 16 back up again.

The best part of the beach is at least a 20 minute walk away although there is a nearer stretch of beach that part is grotty.

The rooms are very clean but simple and are average for Greece.

An excellent large swimming pool and the breakfast is very basic. For us location is our main priority and the hotel position up the hill was a downer for us.

We have just returned from a fortnight in Kefalos staying at the Hermes Hotel. We had a wonderful fortnight and found Diana and her family very friendly, helpful in every way, they made everyone feel part of their family.

The accomodation was clean and roomy. Kefalos is a beautiful place to stay, and the walk from the beaches up to the hotel was about a 10 min stroll. Those that said the walk back was up a hill, want to come to Brixham sometime, that will show them what hills are.

We visited a number of restaurants, all very good, but Sebastians came out on top. The Staff were very friendly. We had a lovely view from our studios, which looked beautiful at night. There was no noise from traffic; it was a very peaceful.

The whole holiday was great, the weather fabulous, what more could you ask for!!! We had a couple of breakfasts in the Hotel and there was a good choice from full English to just toast and tea, not just a bread roll as some folks had stated in their reviews. We are writing this in support of Diana and her family as they had a bit of bad press from some people’s reviews. I would recommend the Hermes to any of our friends to stay there if visiting Kefalos.

The hotel itself was satisfactory. The rooms were basic but clean rooms although our bathroom did suffer from the usual Greek plumbing problems. An excellent large swimming pool and the Diane the co owner could not be more friendly.

Breakfast was a farce and was not worth bothering about. Our problem was the location of the Hermes Hotel which was situated at the back of the resort up a long but gradual hill which was made worse by having to walk on the main road without a pavement.

This was somewhat dangerous at night and a bright torch is a must for safety. If you want a reasonably comfortable hotel with an excellent swimming pool then The Hermes Hotel is a good choice, However if like us the location and being near the beach and tavernas is important then in our opinion the Hermes hotel is as non starter.

The resort of Kefalos reminded us of a long sprawled out cowboy town and was very dusty but peaceful with a good choice of tavernas. The beach was a little disappointing and was certainly not one of the better ones on the island of Kos.

Car hire which is quite cheap is recommended for part of the holiday. A bus service was available at irregular intervals to Kos Town which is a must to visit.

Just returned from a week in Hermes hotel me and my fiancé were on half board basis.

Room was basic but clean view from the balcony was amazing right over the harbour. We never got up in time for breakfast, so we went to a small cafe on the main road can’t remember what the name was but it was the second one as you walk from the hotel, it was really cheap and the owner was very friendly, oh and it was proper English breakfast apart from the sausages.

The pool bar did some nice snacks for lunch good pizzas, burgers and milkshakes especially the chocolate one. We did have dinner in the hotel the first night but it wasn’t really up to much so we went down to one of the bars on the harbour club Sydney English chef was really friendly and the staff were lovely to.

We also hired a car from the hotel (definitely the cheapest place to hire one) and went to Kos town there is a fantastic restaurant just a 10 min walk from the harbour la strega food is amazing and the owner is fantastic too cant do enough for you a must if you do venture to Kos town, the restaurant at camel beach is also really good proper homemade food.

I have visited many of the Greek islands over the last few years and I have NEVER stayed at such a fantastic hotel. Diane and family were so welcoming and made you feel like friends from the start, the rooms were clean and quite spacious; the pool was a fantastic size and very clean around the pool area.

Yes it is up a bit of a hill (10mins walk maximum) but the views are outstanding. Cheap car hire is also available at the hotel. NOTHING was too much trouble for Diane or anyone in this hotel and I would recommend anyone to stay here.

Good bars in Kefalos, Sydney’s bar has live music and is good place to let your hair down, some great restaurants down on the sea front too.

Really hope to return in the future!

YAMAS!!!

The biggest factor with the Hermes Hotel is the poor location. It is situated up a hill at the back of the Kefalos and to access the beach and tavernas you had to walk down (or back up!!) a busy main road leading to the village.

We thought this was a little dangerous at night.

The rooms were simple but more than adequate and the swimming pool was as good as any in the resort. However it was used by locals and sometimes got a bit hectic.

Breakfast is not worth talking about as it was rubbish. The Beach at Kefalos is not as good as reports claim and it was dirty, A nice selection of tavernas and car hire was cheap and we would recommend it to explore the island and to find some much better beaches.

We would not recommend the Hermes Hotel mainly because of its poor location. To be fair the owners made us feel welcome but may be fighting a losing battle as other guests were commentating on the hillside location.

I do not think they will get many guests returning for a second time.

Our 2nd visit to the wonderful Hermes Hotel. I, my wife, our eldest daughter and her boyfriend and our 3 younger children spent 2 fabulous weeks with Diana, Sebastian, and Katerina.

They cannot do enough for you and are always ready to cater for your needs whatever the time and irrespective of how long they have been working.

The Hotel run a Greek night on a Sunday with an all you can eat buffet cooked by Diana which tastes even better than it smells and after the food the dancing begins and because the staff are so friendly any 'English inhibitions' you may have are quickly forgotten as everyone is encouraged to join in.

There is a small restaurant in the resort called Politis this was absolutely fantastic value for money and the food was all freshly cooked and tasted wonderful.

On the location it really annoys me when people moan about the walk up the hill as in every brochure I have seen with the Hermes Hotel in it, they state specifically that the hotel is up a hill so if you read that why book only to come back and moan about it.

We have visited the hotel on 2 occasions and the 1st time our 2 youngest children were in a double buggy and it still only took 10 mins to walk up the hill, we even had races with a lady and her elderly mum to see who could get up the quickest and they beat us every time!

Can't wait to go back and see our 2nd family as that is what Diana, Sebastian, and Katerina have become.

We had a fantastic time at this hotel in May. Despite its location halfway up a hill, we found the exercise beneficial and helped sober us up after overdoing the ouzo.

The walk up the hill to the old town is well worth it (the bakery is fab) and the views are fantastic. Kefalos itself is a bit run down and very quiet, but we loved it. Everyone was very welcoming and the majority of the restaurants were excellent.

The hotel itself was clean and basic, typically Greek, if you want home comforts stay at home.

The staff couldn't do enough for you and work long hard hours and are always cheery.

The pool and poolside bar are fab, my children would have spent 25 hours a day there, if they had been allowed.

Breakfast was terrible, I would go self catering next time, but you could buy more substantial brekkies if required, it wasn't too expensive.

I would love to revisit.
