Oct 2006, Mrs D Ryder

The was not much positive to report about the Hermes Hotel. Our room was on the small size without much light. The breakfast consisted of a roll and butter to eat which was very mean. The staff did try hard but had little to back them up and the swimming pool was large with free sun beds.
Leaving aside all the other points the hotel was about the furthest property from the centre situated at the back of the resort on the main road up a long and winding hill. It took about 20 minutes to return from the shops, bars and tavernas and it was not even a pleasant walk. The best part of the beach up by the Club Med was about 35 minutes walk away. The resort itself was quiet and some parts run down.
There was some excellent restaurants here and our favourites were The Stop In, Argo and Harry’s but after eating we dreaded the walk uphill to return to our accommodation.

For all of those who have complained...
10 / 10
Oct 2006, Miss C Gough

For all of those who have complained about the location - what are you talking about? Yes the hotel is located in a raised position but that makes it prime. The views are amazing! The walk up the slight incline is more than made up for. If we can do it (and enjoy it) with three children, one of which is in a pushchair, then anyone one with a reasonable level of fitness can!
The staff are amazing - so welcoming and helpful, Diane, Sebastian and Katerina will bend over backwards for you. The swimming pool must be the best in the resort.
I've NO idea where the 20 minute walk back to the hotel comes from unless the writer was at the other end of the resort or incredibly slow! It took us 10 minutes at the most (from the harbour) while supervising children and asking them to 'get a move on!'
I can't comment on breakfast as we were self catering but I can say that the food always smelt appetising.
If I have to be negative about the resort I would say that going in Oct means that things are very quite and some tavernas are already closed for the end of season. Argos is a great place for fish dishes but is not family friendly as it has no highchairs. Kampos and Marias have to be our favourite places to eat, especially if you have children. Scorpios is very expensive.
Overall we would highly recommend the Hermes Hotel and the island of Kos to anyone with children who is looking for a great family holiday.

The Hermes hotel it was like a prison it had no windows the door handle fell off as soon as I got there, I told rep he just wasn’t bothered.
The toilet didn’t flush the whole two weeks I was there I asked the rep to move me as soon as I got there and he was going to try to charge me 300 euros.
I advise people to watch out for the reps and do not go to Hermes hotel in Kos Kefalos not friendly or helpful any of the staff.

Oct 2006, Mr P Etherington

We made the mistake of booking an allocation on arrival holiday and were placed at the Hermes Hotel in Kefalos.
This accommodation was located on the hillside at the back of the resort on the main road halfway up the hill to the old town. This fact did not suit us at all as it was at least a 20 minute walk back up the hill from the majority of bars, shops and tavernas. The room was adequate but breakfast was starvation rations.
Once in the resort some excellent tavernas the pick of the bunch being Aphrodite, Argo and Harry’s Place. Not recommended unless you do not mind being up a hill and away from the action.

Oct 2006, Mrs Linda Hill

The Hermes hotel is totally in the wrong position in Kefalos. It is at the back of the resort and even worse up a long hill just off the main road. Whilst it is navigable it is far from ideal especially when returning to the hotel. This is especially a problem when returning after dark as you have to walk along the unpaved main road which could be dangerous. It took about 20 minutes to get back up the hotel from the shops and tavernas although there was one supermarket only 10 minutes away.
The other real bad point was the breakfast which would not have been enough to feed a small mouse. The rooms are pleasant and an excellent swimming pool which is open to outsiders so sometimes the locals arrive on mass with their children when it becomes noisy and the tranquility is shattered. Good places to eat Aprodite, Captain Johns, Kampos and Argo tavernas.
Scorpios is one to miss we suffered from a stomach upset after eating there. Best beach is at far end of the resort by Club Med but this took nearly 35 minutes walk from the Hermes Hotel. The resort of Kefalos is ideal for couples wanting a peaceful holiday with low key nightlife.

Oct 2006, Mr P Cook

To be fair we did book this holiday on an allocation on arrival basis, we certainly would not have chosen the Hermes Hotel as a named accommodation.
It was located at the back of the resort up a long and fairly steep hill. The quickest way to return was along the main road which was dangerous especially at night. It took about 20 minutes walk back from the amenities of Kefalos. The rooms in the hotel were nice as was the swimming pool. The breakfast was microscopic and very poor.
The best tavernas in the resort were Stop in, Rainbow and Captain Johns. Argo worth a visit if you like fish. If you want to semi centrally located give the Hermes hotel a miss.

Oct 2006, Mrs Andrea Gregory

For us location is 75% of our holiday priority. Ideally we like to be in a quiet area within easy walking distance of the resort centre.
We prefer our accommodation to be a base to explore on foot. In this respect the Hermes hotel failed miserably. The hotel is located at the back of the resort on the hillside on the main road up to the old town of Kefalos. There is obviously some traffic noise but more importantly it was a steady longish climb when returning to the hotel and it took just under 20 minutes from the centre where the tavernas and shops were located.
The nearest beach was abysmal and to find a decent beach up by the Club med took a 35 minute walk. The accommodation itself was decent and the swimming pool excellent but the breakfast was extremely mean. Unless you want a hotel based holiday spending most of your time around the swimming pool then we would say the Hermes position wise is totally unsuitable for full use of the resort of Kefalos.
Our favourite tavernas were Aproditi, Captain Johns and Argo. We found Manolis car rental very reasonable priced and helpful.

Oct 2006, Mrs J White

Nice hotel, lousy location. The rooms are clean and a good size, the staff are nice and the swimming pool is great. Breakfast is the bare minimum and would not feed a field mouse. The hotel is built into a hillside and the location is its downfall.
10 minutes down to the resort 20minutes back up a long hill. The beach is a lot further. The position of the hotel put us off. The resort of Kefalos is rather sprawling and looks in need of a clean up.
A great choice of tavernas we suggest Captain Johns, Argo and Kampos as the best. We give the hotel 4 out of 5, but the location 1 out of 5.

A nice hotel in a poor position. The rooms are excellent and the staff are friendly. There is a large swimming pool here with the only downside is it attracts the locals who come and go as they please which means for short period the peace is severely disturbed. Breakfast. What breakfast- rubbish.
The real drawback is the location at the back of the resort up a long and steep hill which is real bind. It is a 10 minute stroll down to the resort longer to the beach and a 20 minute struggle back.
If location is your priority then the Hermes Hotel is best avoided otherwise if you ignore the rubbish, it is more than adequate.

Sep 2006, Mrs L Wilson

Contrary to other reviews of the Hermes Hotel we did not rate it highly. Primarily for the reason it was just off the main road at the back of the town in an elevated. The 10 minute walk and especially the 20 minute back was tiresome and a bit of struggle up the long hill.
The best part of the beach was even further and quite frankly the hotel position in relation to the facilities in the resort was very poor. It rather spoilt our holiday. Also the breakfast consisting of a roll and butter was pitiful and mean. Once you are in Kefalos main resort there were some very good tavernas and our favourites were Captain Johns, Argo and Kampos. There was a local bus service several times a day into Kos Town which was useful.

Jul 2006, Mrs K Prosser

What a wonderful holiday. The owners and their family were so friendly and helpful. The self catering studios were spacious and kept beautifully clean, with fridge, kettle and air con.
The pool was impressive and kept very well, with a small children’s pool. The pool bar food was reasonably priced and was cooked and presented wonderfully.
On Sunday nights they have a Greek night with all you can eat buffet, which was wonderful value for money, the food and the dancers were great.
All in all it was faultless, some complain about the hill up to the hotel, but that was not really a big problem. We would definitely go again.

Mar 2006, Mr Geoff Staddon

You will not get a warmer welcome from all at this amazing family run hotel.
It does not sell it self on 5 star luxury but on the best hospitality you could ever wish to receive my three young children were welcomed all over the hotel with lots of time and attention they enjoyed the freedom and feeling safe of going from the bar to the swimming pool.
They are looking forward as is myself and my wife to returning there again in September.
