Briz Hotel Reviews
" The hotel was reasonable, clean, and... "

The hotel was reasonable, clean, and cheap. The staff in the restaurant were lovely, the rest need a week in charm school.
The food is very basic, mainly catering for the Germans I think. I lived on egg and toast for brekkie and chips for tea. We were lucky and had a pool view from our room.
Definitely not for old or infirm, the trek down the 144 steps to the beach, shops and restaurants everyday twice a day was a nightmare. Mind you there is a little bar half way up if you need to stop for a rest.
There is a regular bus service outside the hotel into Varna, they cram you in like sardines. But watch out to pick pockets, as I found out. Luckily I caught her before she managed to get off.
The markets in Varna sell loads of bootleg stuff, 3 pairs of Nike Trainers I was offered for a tenner.
The food and drink in Golden Sands is so cheap my boyfriend and I had a blow on our last night in an English pub called the Golden Lion. A great place to eat and drink. We both had meal, I had 12 white Russians and my boyfriend had 2 and 10 pints, tipped the waitress who served us all night and still had change from £35. Amazing.

There was no entertainment here which again was a bonus. However it is a half hour to 3/4 of an hour walk away from all the clubs and the busiest part of Golden Sands, but then again it is closer to the nicer beaches which are located at the furthest end going away from the night life.
Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Briz and we are students on a budget, even so we found the room really big and luxurious, the cleaning high quality and the breakfast also to a really good quality.
There were quite a lot of other younger people here (especially Germans!) so maybe it’s a young persons hotel. Beware of the taxi drivers that lurk around the lobby waiting for you to leave so they can offer extortionate prices in order to drive you anywhere, I think they’re a bit scarily pushy and always rip you off!
They will charge 10lev to get into the centre of town, don’t accept anything more, but even then you don’t need to get a taxi into town however much they will try and convince you.
The hotel staff were also the only helpful staff we had during our stay in Bulgaria, if you are still considering going to Bulgaria I would seriously reconsider - the people are food, the food is horrendous and the resort is disgustingly tacky. Beware.
However the Briz was the best hotel we had and one of the highlights of our dismal holiday.
