Pretty good all-round hotel.
We, a couple of nearly seventies, stayed at the hotel for a week in June. We had visited Santa Ponsa many times and had had a walk through the Rey Don Jaime before it was taken over by the present Company. Our decision to stay at it this time was mainly because it is very near the beach and does not involve climbing gradients, etc. We found it to be a really nice hotel with exceptionally friendly staff who, when they have time, show an interest in the guests, e.g.Michael in the Pool Area Bar and Lee from the Entertainments Team. The choice of food is endless and it's good, especially the Chef's table where roasts are usually available - the desserts are to die for! No pressure to buy wines, etc. with meals. One should take a slow walk round the buffet tables as it is easy to miss some dishes - especially the cheese table. Entertainment was available for all ages and I gather the children were well catered for during the day. World Cup was on during the visit and the matches were always available to view on an extra large screen. Reception areas were shining and security was always discreetly on hand. Room was kept clean (sometimes quite late in day before maids appeared) and bedlinen changed daily. We did find the air-conditioning a bit noisy but became used to it. One point ... the walls appear to be very thin and noise does penetrate from adjoining rooms or from the balconies - not ideal when a small child has a tantrum in the middle of the night! Santa Ponsa, itself, was surprisingly quiet for the time of year and it was really pleasant. Temps. were around 30 degrees and humidity was 65 making it oppressive some evenings. Hotel entertainment good and we enjoyed listening to Brian, just round the corner at the Playa Azul . He can sing anything! One thing we didn't like at Rey Don Jaime was the way the UK visitors have taken over from the Germans by queueing up at 8 a.m. to put their towels on the poolside loungers. There are those, of course, who are going for a genuine pre-breakfast dip but the majority (and it's the same people day after day) who merely wish to book a poolside seat whether they swim or not. This must be a difficult one for hotel management and one which is probably found at most Mediterranean hotels. We never managed to get a poolside lounger (and at 70ish not getting up for 8 a.m. while on holiday) and this was probably the only real down-side of the holiday.
A fab time!!
Just got back and want to go again, the food was almost perfect! English bacon and sausage, an excellent selection. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will definately go back later this year, there is a pub within the hotel run by Matt who is great fun.
got back today
just got back from this hotel 2day, went for a fortnight, had a lovely time, children want to go back, lovely hotel, there was a queue for the sunbeds everymorning but there are plenty of chairs if you couldnt get a bed, food ok, plenty of it, it was my sons birthday when we were there and he had a cake from the hotel, staff very friendly could not do enough to help you, rooms very clean, only downside, make sure that your children wear special shoes or a pair of socks when in the pool, pool in good condition but somehow the children were having little cuts, would recommend this hotel.....
second visit - just as good !
Returned from our stay at Don Jaime a couple of days ago. Previously went in May of this year after a cruise and loved it. Took two friends with us this time-they wanted to see what this hotel was like after we raved about it so much.We were a bit nervous as to whether it would let us down but we shouldn't have been!! Just as good as before and our friends also loved it. The entertainment especially was brilliant, as was food, service and rooms. The only downside to our holiday was not due to the hotel - I had £120 stolen by pickpockets outside the cathedral in Palma - so everyone - watch out for the people plying you with carnations etc as you come down the steps to the lake - they do not really want an English penny - they want your wallet!! Be warned.
Have a great stay at Rey don Jaime
We have just returned after a lovely week in this hotel.(H53 W51) Staff were helpful and friendly, food excellent although some moaners complained about having to queue for a table for a few minutes some evenings. Spent most of time at beach which is only a short walk away although pool area seems nice as well. Rooms are not huge but adequate for two people and room serviced every day with clean sheets in middle of week. Yes walls are thin and noisy neighbours could be a problem. However the vast majority of residents during our week were over 60's and didnt cause any trouble. Entertainment programme was also pretty good. All in all this is definitely closer to 4 star than 3 and I would definitely recommend particularly for more mature clients. But its proximity to the beach and the great range of food would make it okay for families with small children too.
Fantastic ,
Arrived home yesterday and must say fantastic hotel rated 3 star but verging on 4 star, Staff freindly .Food great !! Entertainment not bad but every ones tastes varies,Will be going back to this one next year for a week. Details:- 100yard from beach, 500yards to night life far enough away as not to bothered by the noise from the bars.Pool area clean and plenty of loungers even when busy.Beware indoor pool has so much Chlorine its like a bath of acid on your eye,s. Cant wait till next year (Enjoy)!!!!!
Rey Don Jaime - an excellent 3* hotel
We got back from the Rey Don Jaime yesterday. After reading some of the reviews about this hotel I was not sure what to expect - as it has it's fair share of good and bad reviews. However when we arrived we were pleasantly suprised - You are welcomed into a large marble reception area, which has the appearance of a 4* hotel, where our check in was quick and efficient. Our room, which was available straight away on arrival, was clean and tidy and although was not huge was large enough for 2 people, we had a corner room so our balcony was also quite spacious. The walls are quite thin, so we'd recommend ear plugs for those who are light sleepers! Rooms also have air conditioning - but here's a handy tip - when you leave the room and have to remove the card key replace it with something like a tesco club card so the air con stays on while you are out! The food at the hotel was great, there was a good selection for both breakfast and dinner, although if you are a vegetarian you may find the choice limited. The hotel has a 'pub' open to the early hours of the morning with pool and darts available, there is also a bar where food is available through out the day and where entertainment is provided every evening (it is quite popular so it would be advised to get there early to get a seat!). During the day there are also a range of activities for both children and adults including water polo and football. The only thing that I feel really lets the hotel down is the pool area, and is one of the reasons I started to dread going to the hotel as other reviews had said you had to queue from 8.30am to get a sun lounger as there are not enough sun beds for the number of guests at the hotel - and you did have to queue, however don't let this put you off this hotel - I normally don't venture to the beach prefering to stay at the pool, however as we didn't want to queue for pool sun loungers we went to the beach every day of our holiday. The Santa Ponca beach is lovely - very clean and sun beds are relatively cheap - 7.50 euros per day for 2 sun beds and an umberella. The beach is only about 100m from the hotel so isn't too far even for the less mobile. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants near to the hotel, and the bus stop and taxi rank are only a 5 min walk away where you can get buses to places like the waterparks, pirate show and Palma! All in all the Rey Don Jaime is a good 3* hotel, and I would recommend it to those who wish to stay in a good location, with good food and entertainment, and enjoy the beach.
Value for money
Good food and choice, friendly staff, clean beds and towels. good location. Not enough sunbeds in August and small pool area. Queue for sunbeds at 7.30am for 1 hour. Dining room very chaotic as lots of people, difficult to find table to eat as no organisation, short of staff in dining area to set tables. Don't hire fridge very expensive for 2 weeks, could have bought one for the price! Wardrobe space limited, first time I have lived out of suitcase. Paper thin walls, could hear everything and very cramped rooms if three people in them. Okay for two though. Clean and comfy beds, didn't sag in the middle for a change. Would only give 2 star rating though, except for food which is great.
ABSOLUTELY BRILL !!!!
We have just arrived back The Rey Don Jaime in Santa Ponsa 2 days ago and what a fabulous fortnights holiday we had. We have stayed at another of the Marina hotels in Cala Dor for the past 4 years and loved it so we decided to try another of their hotels. We were a little apprehensive as to how it would match up to the Skorpios Marina but it exceeded all our expectations. There was so much on offer fom brilliant daytime activities to very professional evening entertainment, there was also a pub within the hotel open till 3 am!! The food was absolutely first class with plenty of choice to suit everones taste and the rooms were very clean and comfortable with a/c and tv. Considering the hotel has well over 400 rooms the pool area was not as crowded as I have seen at other hotels we've stayed but to get a sunbed you had be down by 8am but the beach is literally only a stones throw away. All in all I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and we will definately be returning next year. .
Take me back!
What a wonderful hotel! Great food for everyone, eat as much as you want and choose from a variety of foods and deserts. They also provide fruit every morning and evening. The rooms were lovely, some more spacious than others, but nobody stays in their room for much of the day! There was air conditioning which you can control, it keeps the room lovely and cool when u need it. The views were lovely on all sides of the hotel (my family had rooms on three different sides of the hotel, not including the pool view). The pool was a bit on the small side and there were not enough sun beds, however it is a two minute walk from the beach, which was amazing! White sand and clear blue water, what more could you want! Not a jellyfish in sight! There was plenty of room to sit in the bar in the evening, both inside and out. The entertainment was held outside so you did not have to watch it if you wanted a quiet drink. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and spoke good English. The cleaners would always say hello to you, either in Spanish or English! The dining area was hard to find a table for more than two people after about half an hour of it opening, we found it was best to go down 5 minutes before opening to garantee a table. Last but not least, a very handy thing indeed, if you ran out of shampoo, needed some aftersun or bottles or wipes for a baby, there were vending machines containing last minute things you could need on holiday. They also included drinks and snacks which were not that expensive to purchase. The only down side was that the walls were very thin but everyone realises that and people did keep the noise down. All in all, it was an excellent hotel and i definately recommend it to all age groups.
