Having spent a very enjoyable week on the cruise ship Celebration and been completely satisfied with accommodation, service, food, and shore trips, I was extremely disappointed when we arrived at the Hotel Marina Rey Don Jaime.
Disappointed is not strong enough, devastated would be more appropriate.
The smell as we walked through reception was absolutely disgusting. I thought the hotel had an internal problem with drains and expected this to be sorted but the foul smell remained throughout our stay.
This prevented me and my family even sitting by the pool and when we ventured in and out of the hotel we made a dash to the lifts or the hotel door so as not to vomit. Once outside and past the hotel, the smell disappeared.
I had booked accommodation in a family room for three. The room was very small with less than half a metre of wardrobe space between three and no room to walk past each other.
The cabin on the ship had been twice the size! I asked for a bigger room and was told nothing was available, however the following day I did manage to secure a larger room for a minor fee.
The staff in the hotel were polite and the Thomson representative helpful. I advised that I would move anywhere on the Island at whatever cost as I did not wish to spend the last week of my holiday in this place.
Having spent just over £4500.00 with one week to go I certainly expected a better standard from Thomson than this. Unfortunately, the representative advised that having checked nothing was available on the Island.
I expressed disbelief that Thomsons had twinned this particular hotel with the cruise we had been on. What were they thinking of?!
The representative told me that I was not the only person to complain about this and completed a complaint form on my behalf which was to be forward to Thomsons and a copy retained at the hotel. I was told that I would get a reply from Thomsons. Having been back home for almost five weeks I can advise that I have received no communication from Thomsons.
I will also advise that I was lucky enough to meet some friends in Majorca and for three of the days during that week we were able to stay with them.
At no time did we eat in the Hotel so additional cost was incurred for all meals.
I am disappointed that I have not had a response from Thomsons but even more so that they ever thought to put guests in to this hotel in the first place.
My holiday, which I consider reasonably expensive and therefore should have been of a certain standard, was totally RUINED!!

We have just come back from this hotel, The hotel was absolutely fantastic; accommodation excellent, very clean, rooms cleaned each day and always fresh towels and bedding.
There was also plenty of choice at meals, no complaint there. All the staff were excellent, very helpful.
Now looking forward to booking next year for two weeks this time. Santa Ponsa is a lovely place.

we are 10 people and 1 child who went on a family holiday to the Don Rey Jaime hotel and had a truly wonderfull time. All of the staff were absolutely great. The cleanliness every where was 2nd to none. The entertainment was lovely every evening. We had a really good laugh all day every day. We cannot fault anything at all, and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Can't wait to go again. Oh! and the entertainment throughout the day was great as well.

I have recently been on a family holiday where the ages ranged from 3 -75. We found the holiday absolutely fantastic. The entertainment team worked extremely hard to ensure that everyone had a lovely holiday without being pushy. The evening entertainment especially was enjoyed by all, there was something for everyone. The food and rooms were basic however this did not compromise the holiday. I would definitely recommend this holiday and area of Majorca to anyone. The access to the shops, beaches and bars are within close proximity.

Just back from 10/11 days. Overall the hotel was very good. There was a wide variation of food, cooked to reasonably high standards. The evening entertainment was excellent with an outside seating area. Staff were helpful and friendly and the maid service was regular and efficient.
The beach is less than five minutes walk away and the pool is quite large with a dedicated kiddie section. Mozzies were a bit of a nightmare, take plenty of repellant!! You cannot access the area to the sunbeds until 8.30am (locked door). This is great for those of us who have had to get up at 7am at other hotels to get a sunbed.
There is a quite large indoor entertainment area in case of poor weather and there is a games room and also a separate pub (open til 3am) for those of you who want to do Karaoke, could not hear this as the pub is in a separate building so no worries about the noise. Part of the Marina Group. Overall very good and would recommend a visit.

Having stayed in various Santa Ponsa hotels I can conclude this was by far the best.
The whole hotel (other than corridors) is air conditioned and very clean. The food and the selection were extremely good.
As a single, hotels can sometimes be a little unfriendly but the "pub" bar made everyone welcome with something going on every night after the main hotel entertainment finished.
I loved it and would go again.

The hotel and the resort could not be faulted in my opinion! Rey don Jamie was one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The food was fantastic, staff were all kind and helpful and also the cleanliness was good! The entertainment staff were brilliant they catered for both the adults and children!
The resort of Santa Ponsa was great as I am 18 and went with 2 of my friends and my mum and dad we found that it had a lot of good bars and night clubs which stayed open until 6am! Simplys and Greenhill’s are places that I would recommend to go!
Also my parents had a good time, as there was bars in other parts of the resort for them to enjoy! Santa Ponsa is situated in a good place, as it is only 10minute drive to Magaluf!
Overall this was one of the best holidays I have been on and will b returning next year!

I have visited this hotel twice, and love love loved it! The food was amazing, the rooms were spotless and the location was perfect. As it was a very short walking distance to the beach and many little shops and cafes. Likewise it is just far enough away from the centre of Santa Ponsa for the hotel to remain quiet and to get a decent nights sleep. However, if you want night-life then it is available. Many of the bars in the area are very fun. This is one of the safest resorts we have ever visited and we all felt very safe, especially since the locals are very welcoming.
The only slight downside was the mosquitoes, but one plug-in in your room solved all of this.
The hotel itself was extremely clean, and on a couple of occasions we even noticed the maids cleaning the leaves on the plant and underneath the handles of the stairs. The staff in the hotel are very friendly and would gladly help you with anything.
Myself and my family would revisit this hotel time and time again, as it really was one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in (including many 4 and 5 star hotels). It definitely deserves a higher rating than the 3 star it has been awarded.

Me and my family have just returned home from a wonderful sunny week at the Rey Don Jamie in Santa Ponsa- a beautiful resort and a delightful hotel.
Rooms- Our room was a good size and had all the mod cons including air con, shower, bath, safe balcony, good wardrobe space, tv and a comfy bed. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard daily and sheets and towels were changed daily too.
Staff- All the staff were very friendly and spoke fluent English. The Thomson rep was very helpful when we booked tickets to see a dinner show named 'Son Amour'. The daytime entertainers were brilliant and provided lots of pool games during daytime.
Nigh time entertainment- The entertainment wasn't wonderful 1 or 2 nights were good but it wasn't wonderful. Bingo was played every night time with cash prizes of 200 euros. The bar was open until 1 o'clock and a karaoke was held in the pub which was open till 3 o'clock.
Food- There was a vast choice in food however not a lot appealed to me. Carved meat was served every night and 1 night an Italian themed night was held. A variety of seafood was also on offer. Soup was available as a starter and cheeses with crackers were on offer too. The desserts weren't very good at all as most things appeared every night the same with some exceptions.
Location- The location was superb, the distance to the beach was very small just a short path to walk along, restaurants and shops were of a small distance too.
Overall a brilliant hotel with a large pool I would certainly reccomend it!

We have just returned from a "last minute booking" to the Marina Rey Don Jaime Hotel and it was absolutely excellent. Everything about the hotel was great.
The location was brilliant - down a side street about 150 metres from the beach and within walking distance of the numerous shops, bars etc but far enough away so that noise was never a problem.
The resort itself is very nice - especially for families. The beach has beautiful white sand and is cleaned every day. Santa Ponsa is quite a breezy resort so you should be careful about slapping on the sun cream as it is very easy to believe that you are not burning because of the lovely breeze only to be very sore in the evening!
The staff at the hotel were very nice, friendly, and helpful. The Entertainment Team were brilliant - Lee, Ian, JB and Gabby but especially Crazy Max who certainly lived up to his name. They worked really hard and there was always something going on during the day by the pool if you wanted to join in - and Max to throw you in the pool if you were unlucky!
The entertainment in the evening was good also - some nights there were tribute bands on and then other nights the entertainments team put on shows like "Grease". There was also bingo every night with prize money. Two of the nights we were there the prize was over 200 Euros so well worth a go!
The hotel was very clean. The rooms were tidied and we had clean towels every day. The facilities were also very good. The pool was lovely with a very large shallow area which is excellent for those with small children. The only down side was the "race for a sun bed" every day. You had to set your alarm every day just so that you could get a sunbed.
The pool opened at 8.30 am but most people started to queue at about 8.00 am with a pile of towels appearing at the door in a line first! People were actually running out to the pool area to get the sunbeds in the area they wanted - and I have to say that there was not a German in sight - these were all British holidaymakers!
The food was excellent with plenty of choice including roasts, local food and salads and a children’s section. The food was plentiful and many guests took full advantage of this.
The only thing that put us off was the families with children (unfortunately English) who did not seem to know how to use a knife & fork properly and just stabbed at their enormous pile of food and ate off their forks like animals, and another family who we saw let their small child throw food on the floor constantly and just expect the hotel staff to clear it all up after them. It is no wonder that a lot of Europeans think that the English are louts!
Anyway, overall this is an excellent hotel - a great location, very good food, and entertainment and recommended for families and we would certainly return again.

Just returned from Santa Ponsa last week. Stayed at the Rey Don Jaime & would definitely recommend this hotel. Wasn't too keen on the reception staff - didn't seem to have too much time for us - too busy talking amongst themselves but other than that the hotel was excellent. Rooms & very clean & tidy - got clean towels whenever we wanted them.
Food in the hotel was excellent - could fault anything - if you can't find anything to eat that you like you must be very fussy !!!!
Pool area was ok - didn't use it much but when we did we got a sunbed no problem.
Santa Ponsa itself was excellent - great a night time - plenty of bars to chose from & Magaluf is only 5 minutes away in a taxi for 9 euros.
Overall would definitely recommend Santa Ponsa & the Rey don Jaime - will be booking our next holiday there again soon.

Myself and my family have just returned from the best holiday in years. The hotel is out of this world, the staff are the friendliest people we have ever come across abroad. Our holiday was blighted by the Glasgow car bomb and the Thomson losing our cases. While we were there my young daughter took ill and was admitted to hospital but the hotel staff organised an English speaking doctor for my daughter to be admitted to a great hospital. While she was in the hospital the hotel was on the phone everyday to see if they could do anything to help.
The entertainment at the hotel was first class for both adults and children. Even when your children are at the activities you still have a clear view of them. The food was of an excellent standard and always varied. Natalie the customer care manager really made our holiday with her caring attitude towards us and especially our children. Whilst there everyone else who was at the hotel were making enquires to come back. The Rey Don Jamie is well known in the area for being the best hotel around, and I would certainly agree with that as we thought it was wonderful.

First visit to this hotel with my wife and two adult sons. A few minor niggles (stuck in lift on first night! and communication problems over a kettle etc) but generally we had a good week.
Hotel clean, rooms cleaned daily and the food was excellent, good choice. Restaurant staff very friendly and helpful with my sons special diet, also made a special fuss of me on my birthday with cake, song, photo and bottle of wine which was nice.
Entertainment programme was varied and well received with something for all ages.
Plenty of sunbeds available but area around pool was crowded and with the hotel busy wasn’t really enough room but who cares when there is a great beach only 200yds away. Impressed with Santa Ponsa as a resort, lots to do with every taste catered for, lively or quiet.
Good local bus service(beware of the drivers as I got ripped off a couple of times with change etc but only the odd euro! but it’s the principal!!!) to Palma and surrounding area and would recommend a short bus trip to Paguera, lovely to stroll around etc.
Recommend Palmiras Bar on front overlooking beach for a classy evening drink. For those energetic amongst you I would suggest you tackle the long steep steps leading up the hillside, the views are well worth the effort and the cold beer on return tastes great!!!
I am sure you will enjoy your holiday and we didn’t see any grumpy Spanish pensioners so pick the time of your visit carefully!!

Little has changed since my last review of a few years back and I guess the guys that went in early 2007 and were disappointed were caught out by circumstances.
In June everything was back to what I assume is standard for the season, good food, great choice, and good entertainment.
The same downside applies as previously reported - the dreaded mosquito/midge. Take shed loads of repellent and use it when indoors too.
Picking up on another report, I'd confirm that the beds are not the most comfortable but the overall package does rate highly.
On the plus side, all the sun loungers have been replaced by the variable backrest versions - so the early morning charge is less frantic, on the downside the room for lounging around the pool remains limited.
Still there's a cracking beach just a few minutes’ walk away if that's your bag.
Go again? Tomorrow!

Fantastic hotel very close to the beach, very friendly people can’t do enough to make your stay pleasant. Food what can I say, no droll choice here excellent carvery beef, pork turkey etc salmon its excellent, you wont be rushing to the nearest cafe for something different that’s for sure.
Entertainment is ok, Queen Fantastic others not so good but who wants to sit in a hotel all night but hey they do have bingo! The pool is very clean and safe, the bar area is very clean and snacks are very well prepared.
I can highly recommend this hotel staff have a great sense of humour, can’t say a bad thing about the place.
Loads to keep the kids happy pool ping pong etc. One note take some mozzy spray they are every where!
