My husband and I have returned from a holiday here on which we took our 7 month old baby. I had read reviews that gave extreme views both good and bad.
I have to say that we were horrified when we arrived at the complex as you could barely see the pool because of the sheer number of people in it. When we arrived at our apartment we were pleasantly suprised by the cleanliness and very relieved to find a bath there! The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately we had a room overlooking the pool which was very noisey well into the night. As we were fairly restricted in what we could do in the evening we had to sit on the balcony most evenings.
Stangely, despite being a family-friendly hotel there are no sun shades by the pool. Also, uless you wish to take your life into your hands it is difficult to actually have a swim after about midday as the pool is packed through to around 8pm.
I have to say that we sampled neither the food nor the entertainment although I would say that the BBQ looked quite nice although the entertainment sounded slightly cheesey.
One big plus is that the hotel is occupied mainly by Irish holiday makers which, with the amount of kids there are at the hotel, eases things slightly - I have never met so many children who are so pleasant and polite just about without exceptions (and any exceptions could be put down to youthful exuberance).
The resort itself is quiet. The restaurants and snack bars near the hotel are fairly bog standard but there are some excellent restaurants and bars at the marina which are less expensive than you would imagine (city centre prices). The beach that is billed as being 350m from the hotel is pretty shabby but do walk along the marina to the beach behind the boatyard as it is lovely.
All in all I wouldn't necessarily stay either at the resort or the apartments again but a holiday is what you make of it and I can certainly see it's appeal to families with young families, but was a little noisey for those with babies or couples.

I stayed here in June 2007...................STAY AWAY. It’s noisy. It is expensive to eat or drink there. I have been short changed by the staff many times and they will always deny it, I have had goods taken from my room and when reported to the management I was told it was my word against theirs. Which means the cleaners can take what they want really. I was woken every morning to bin trucks rattling and banging and again when I brought it to the attention of the management I was told bins have to be emptied and to more or less go away.

The apartments are fairly basic and seemed to be geared towards families with small children. We found it impossible to get a cup of coffee before 10am.
Having a late drink is uncomfortable as parents are relaxing outside the bar while their little darlings are running madly around the pool, high on sugar from the countless bottles of coke ect that they have consumed.
The main gripe I have is the sheer boringness of the resort. I'm all for a quiet holiday, if there is a local village in which to relax, but here there is absolutely nothing. Unless of course you count the three tacky bar/restaurants half way down the steep hill to the man made beach.
The Dolphinarium is within walking distance, but once is enough to view this rather tame exhibit.
At the bottom of the STEEP hill is the "centre" of Portal Nous. It consists of a few exclusive bars, restaurants, and boutiques. To give an example; the cheapest bikini in one shop was € 400. The cheapest bottle of house wine in one restaurant was €90. There are no prices on the menus, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
The local Rep. took great pride in explaining this to us. We were also told the list of "A" celebs that frequent the resort, mooring their motor cruisers in the exclusive Marina, (€200 per night).
Now, personally I don't care how the other half pass their time, but I certainly don't wish to use my precious holiday time ogling the rich and famous.
The local beach is tiny and not very attractive but the man-made beach at the end of the Marina is beautiful and relaxing, unfortunately there was an invasion of nasty stinging jellyfish, during the week we were there. (Seemingly a growing problem in the Med.).
The only thing that saved our holiday wad the excellent public bus service on the island.
Consequently, we spent most of our time in Santa Ponsa and Palma Nova.
Unless you like to spend your holiday searching for a glimpse of a "Celebrity", I would advise giving Portal Nous a miss.
