May 2007, Mr Dave McCormack

Basically we did a cigarette run. We decided to stay in Palma as none of us had stayed there before & it was close to the Airport. Palma in March is very Spanish & we enjoyed the short Culture Experience. The Hotel is more based at Business people than Tourists, "No... more

Very clean and modern hotel
I recently visted this hotel as it was provided as a stop over hotel due to my flight being cancelled. WHat a choice it was. The rooms were very clean and modenr, bathroom was excellent with large shower and funky see thru sink. The bed was comfortable and helped me sleep well. The staff were friendly and helful. The hotel is in a weird location down a back street but it is near to shops and a short (10 min) walk to the beach. It has recently been refurbished and looks very modern. The breakfast in the morning was good with a buffet style, help yourself type format. I would stay here again
City Centre Gem
Excellent small hotel for city centre break ( not to be confused with Tryp hotel overlooking the bay of Palma) Small, friendly, good rooms, excellent breakfast. Pool a bit of a let down being very small but it was useful for relaxing after a hard days walking and shopping. Ask reception for directions to Cella Sa Premsa which is a short walk away. Noisy, full of locals enjoying simple Mojorcan food and wine at very low prices. A wonderful experience.
Terrific
We stayed for 2 nights with half board. The breakfast was varied and huge with lots of fresh fruit and fresh orange juice; the dinner, big and basic, but good. It included a big glass of wine and mineral water. The spa with a little pool, jacuzzi and sauna was clean and had an attendant some of the time. The workers were helpful. It is a 10 minute walk to the major market and the train station. It is about 20 minutes to the Cathedral through a pedestrian area. 2 minute walk from airport bus stop. It could not have been better for the price. (we paid 232 Euros for 2 nights; 1/2 pension)
Never again!!!!
Arrived at the Tryp Palma about 7pm on Sat 19 February 2005. Stood at the reception desk to check in. Produced my passport and credit card so that the clerk could photocopy it. Put my holdall on the floor between myself and the reception desk so that I could sign the registration form. Bent down to pick up my holdall. It had been stolen. Having just arrived all my worldly possessions were in it. Credit cards, bank cards, currency, passport, driving licence. Everything gone!! The clerk at the desk was helpful in that he called the police for me. After that, not a word of apology or even a mention from any other member of staff. There is no security whatever in reception, no CCTV camera. It appears that the general public are able to use the sauna so there are all sorts of people wondering in and out. I suspected a couple who went out of the hotel and drove off in a car. I even got the car number but the police were not interested. The thief was obviously already in the hotel as nobody came in whilst I was at reception, only people went out. I was charged for telephone calls made to report my stolen cards and when I was presented with the bill for the room at the end of the holiday, my partner offered his credit card to be told that it was chip and pin only. He has not yet received a chip and pin number so we were told to transfer the money into their account when were arrived back in England. There is a very dodgy piece of waste land/play area just below this hotel and when we did walk out later there were some very unsavoury looking characters sat on benches, some in groups of 3 and 4. Sorry!! NEVER AGAIN!!
Excellent
Went to the Tryp Palma last w/end of November with a few couples. We opted for this hotel because of the positive comments by previous visitors, We were not disappointed! Yes it is the business district but the walk down to the Cathedral and old town area only took 10 - 15 mins, but is very pleasant. Also you will find shortcuts along the way. The front desk provided us with a street map, Palma's Xmas lights were switched on during our visit. Possibly only complaint by all of us was the rooms were too hot! Would definately recommend hotel for a short stay. It was spotless, staff were excellent, breakfast was also very good. Did not use the health club (Too much to do in three days) The hotel is 10 mins from the train that takes you upto Soller. It is a lovely trip through the mountains, tip...... the first two carriages have leather seats in and seats approx 10 -12 people. Others are either wooden slatted or plastic covered and get very full! Hope this info can be of use to other travelers.
Two Tryps in Palma
From the reviews I have read it seems that the tryp hotels are being confused with one another. The Tryp Bosque is further out than the Tryp Bellver which is on the front of the Marina. We stayed in the Bosque and found it to be very nice. The rooms were spacious and well furnished. Usual facilities and a pleasant situation. The only complaint was that the staff in the dining room did not tell us the proceedure for dining and as we were on a room basis, thought that it would be the same as their other hotels. Wrong. If you eat at the buffet it can work out much more expensive than the a la Carte. Also a la Carte is freshly cooked and looked delicious. We realised our mistake after the soup but they would not allow us to go a la carte. The buffet looked good but did not live up to expectations. Would we stay again Yes and we are going to try the Bellver next time even though it is more geared up for business. Just more one more point. Those of a fastidious disposition should be aware that the Bosque is opposite a strip club although we saw nothing. Hubby was disappointed
Nice place
We went to palma in March 2004. The Tryp was a nice hotel, with all the ammenities you would expect. The downside to this hotel was the location. It is in the Buisness district around 15-20mins walk from the harbour, where all the action seams to be!! But overall no compaints about this hotel, staff very friendly, and no need to take your hairdryer- theres is powerfull!! A first for any european hotel i have stayed in!! Anyway we had a great time, just wish we had gone more "in season" very quite when we went. oh Resturants are generally closed on a sunday, and tourist attractions as well as shops are also closed during the seiesta. Enjoy!
City Centre Surprise
This city centre hotel was a delight. Excellent facilities and spotlessly clean considering the very reasonable rates. Staff friendly and helpful. Accessible for all the sights and transport links etc. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - only downfall - don't expect views or complete piece and quiet, it is in the city centre after all!
Contemporary Hotel at great rates
Having read this site and saw a review on the Tryp Palma, I went into the hotels website and viewed the rooms. On arrival the rooms were just as expected - modern, clean and comfortable. The rates were fantastic - approx eighty euros a night inc breakfast. The buffet breakfast was delicious and more plentiful than many other hotels that charge twice the price. The health centre with pool, sauna and steam was a pleasant addtition to our stay. The hotel is about a 10 mins pleasant walk from the main hub of shops etc. Warning: we found it very difficult to find a supermarket or many shops open on a Sunday (snacks in the hotel minibar typically expensive!and roomservice menu limited) - so go prepared if you get peckish! Vist Abaco - its a must. No need to drink their expensive cocktails which were extremely alcoholic. Have a beer instead. My trip was in Nov so would love to see what this place is like in Spring/Summer. Enjoy!
Very good city centre hotel
My wife and I stayed at the Tryp Palma for a long weekend.Hotel was very clean and the rooms very modern and well decorated. The staff were very helpful and courteous.Only a few minutes walk to the centre of Palma. 15 mins walk to Cathedral but pleasant walk through the narrow streets. Only 5 mins to the station for the trip to Soller. We are going back soon. Breakfast was very good and the food excellently presented. Big showers in the bathrooms. Business Hotel so not too many tourists but all guest treated the same. Some very good restaurants near by. Lives up to its five star billing. Dont go expecting views across the city.
