The Hotel Canyamel Classic is located on the oriental coast of the island and is surrounded by green mountains that protect it, and its beautiful beach, of fine sand and crystalline waters, from the wind. The hotel is air-conditioned and very spacious. It is well known for its good service and facilities. This hotel is also privileged by scenic gardens.

We had a wonderful week's holiday at this 4* hotel which has lovely food and unlimited drinks. The other guests in the hotel were predominantly German, with a few Italian, French and Dutch guests. We were the only people staying at the hotel that were English, but we found that really refreshing! All the entertainment is in the languages of the current guests and most of the hotel staff can speak English.

The facilities and hotel are clean and spacious and the resort itself is very quiet with only a handful of hotels and a parade of shops. Saying that, it has everything you would expect from a holiday resort - lovely beach 50m from hotel, excursions that go to most major attractions, a local bus (very cheap and a good way to visit neighbouring resorts), a glass bottom boat trip (although this is hidden away so you need to look hard to find it!) and the Caves of Arta just a 20 minute walk away (mostly uphill though it's worth it!).

Not many tour operators offer this hotel, but we booked through Youtravel.com (Qwerty Travel) and booked our flights separately with British Airways. I find it works out cheaper to do it this way.

This trip was a present for my Dad's 65th birthday and he very much enjoyed it. There aren't many places to go out in Canyamel itself, but there is a bar that's open until 4am, which my husband and brother-in-law frequented. There are mountains either side of Canyamel which the boys enjoyed walking up, but wear sensible shoes and take water if you're going to attempt it!

I would say that the hotel is mainly suited for older couples and families, but our group's ages ranged from teenagers to pensioners (sorry Dad!) and we all enjoyed it very much.
