We called into Travelcare to book a weeks holiday and was offered a week half board at the Flacalco Park and Gardens Hotel Cala Ratjada Majorca 26th Sept to 03rd Oct 2007. We normally go self catering and thought this might be a nice change, oh how wrong we were.
Lets start with the resort, a filthy horrible place, full of closed down or half built and deserted hotels. The marina area is 'ok' but takes only 10mins to walk from one end to the other. We found one cafe near the main square called La Placa we considered friendly and the food (albeit only burger type meals) and the tea/coffee were very good and reasonably priced.
Now for the Flacalco Hotel, this was an experience we hope we never go through again.
Cleanliness and hygiene does not appear to be something they are familiar with, the room was what is known as minimalist with regard to comfort and furnishings, the mixer tap on the bathroom sink was green from the lack of cleaning and full of soap scum as was the shower head. The bidet and toilet were stained brown around the rim and in the bowl and the smell from the toilet was rife. We requested a change of room and were offered only one other room which we accepted because there was a walk in shower instead of a bath and it looked newer and cleaner unfortunately every time we showered the bathroom floor got flooded, the rest of the room was just like the first with the exception of the curtains which were hanging off the rail because most of the curtain hooks were missing and the balcony furniture was filthy with ingrained dirt.
There was a notice on the bathroom wall requesting that guests use the towels more than once and then place dirty towels on the floor when clean ones were required, we placed our dirty towels on the floor as requested but they were just hung back up on the towel rail by the maid and eventually we had to ask at reception for clean towels.
The food was just indescribable, as an example one evening meal consisted of chickens feet (yes chickens feet) in some kind of sauce. Any salad or vegetables were swimming in what we could only presume was water, no one seemed to know what the soup consisted of but the tinned pears for sweet course may have been a safe bet. The crockery and cutlery lacked a good wash and the dining room lacked a good clean.
Outside wasn't any better, the small pool didn't exactly look inviting and the sun loungers were ragged and dirty, the 'gardens' consisted of dead plants and overgrown trees and lacked lighting at night. According to the on line brochure description of this hotel there has been recent refurbishment but we could find no evidence of this. They do have self catering apartments across the road but we cannot comment on them as we didn't see them.
Overall we would definitely recommend you stay away from not only the hotel but also the resort neither of which by the way cater for English.
