Happy Travellers in the gorgeous Alanya
from wellyboots
Hot, hot, hot! We had read some very bad reviews about this hotel and were dubious about going (which is why I'm bothering to do this). Within an hour of arriving, another 'Brit' told us how awful it was... food... cleanliness... boring days... lack of sunbeds... We nearly packed and left! The food was lovely with a daily variation in the restaurant, we watched pizzas made freshly every day at the pool side and they were gorgeous. The only reason we found people complained was that the food was 'foreign'!! You would think that being in Turkey would give that one away! There were masses of salad choice and both of my children, and us ate interesting food, very well all week! The tea, however, is shocking! As a big tea drinker, it is the only thing I missed! The hotel was spotless and our apartment cleaned daily... the cleaner was wonderful! The apartment was over 2 floors, really homely and spacious and cool! Our 'helpful Brit' spent all day, every day beside one of the pools... Only getting off of her early riser sunbed to get food or free booze... hence her boring days! We however, walked to the main road, flagged down a Dolma (very frequent, cheap and air conditioned small buses) and went to Alanya market, Alanya Beach - Please get a taxi from the town centre to Alanya Beach, Jimmy's Bar... Jimmy speaks excellent English, will sort beds and parasols (and bucket/spades for the kids) for that day, sells the most beautiful food, real drinks in chilled cans/bottles and ice lollies not made with local water! From meeting Jimmy, he helped us organise a day out on a boat for 125 Lire for the whole family - the hotel was charging £35 per person for the same trip! The boat owners picked us up from the hotel and dropped us home within this price and breakfast, dinner and afternoon snack was included! It was an awsome day out! You can also travel to a town going right from the end of the hotel's road which has good shopping and markets which are cheaper than Alanya and not as hectic! We did spend days at the hotel - we never did get a sunbed! Not being sad enough to lay our towels out by 6am but we always has seats under the bar awnings at the pool side which suited us fine! The children enjoyed the slides and the pools were perfectly cleaned. The hotel market prices everything in Euros and is very expensive, but again, walk to the end of the road, turn right, and the local market is better stocked, cheaper and helpful! It is also the only place we could get cows milk for our son, all of the milk in the hotel is goats milk!! My dughter had her hair braided in the hotel salon and was thrilled with it... nearly 2 weeks later and her hair still looks lovely! The staff are friendly and helpful and the early evening children's entertainment was good for mine but can't imagine anyone over 10 getting stuck in. We never made it to the adult entertainment so can't comment on that! We really enjoyed this holiday and may consider going back again in the future! A holiday is what you make of it... If you want pie and chips with gravy and don't like it too hot, stay in England! As a final note, please make sure you take £10 sterling per traveller to get into Turkey, we weren't warned and nearly got stuck in the airport!
DON'T LISTEN TO THE MOANERS / TROUBLE MAKERS

Just returned from the Club Mermaid in Alanya, we had a great time. The hotel is very very clean and tidy. The pools are superb. The food is OK remember you are in Turkey and if you have brought your kids up to eat food which is not fast food they will be fine. A number of people tried to influence others with negative comments about the hotel (they just want something for nothing). The beach is not brilliant but OK with free drinks and food available. The waiters are fantastic and work long hours and are always smiling, on our holiday one waiter was pushed in the pool only to find his mobile phone not working after. The English make you sick at times.
Great Value

Well we had a great time in the height of the season. Very lively with lots of familys. Only two down sides the walk to the beach and the repetitive food same first week as the second but generally good food with something for everyone. Pools were clean and the entertainment staff tried hard to please everyone with the day time and evening entertainment. Not a large complex, but for what we paid for it we had a great holiday and the kids made some good friends. Worth it for a value all inclusive.
Ok if you are Russian!
from jonboy0766
The hotel is very nice and kept clean, the turkish bath part is nothing short of excellent. That's the good stuff over! On arrival we where told the airconditioning was out of order, in 51 degree's this was a problem, when someone finally turned up on day 4 of 7 he told us we needed a remote control to make it work! We got that and it did work but the point is that the reception is unhelpful and should have told us this upon arrival and the many times we asked. Also the safe didn't work but thats no great shakes. The food was appalling and dining room service not much better. The demographic of the hotel was mainly Russian and German so maybe the food was more appealing to them but to us it was very poor. Drinks where also poor with very little ice and very few chilled drinks or water. The bar staff was also sparse so very long lines! On the whole I enjoyed my stay but had a feeling that they would prefer not to have British guests, understanable sometimes but this is a family hotel and I saw none of the behaviour you sometimes see from some of our compatriats so why they seem to dislike British guests I do not know. My last point is currency, please take Euro's, everywhere accepts Euros and if you pay in Turkish Lira they do some calculation from one to the other and you just know it's a poor rate bordering uopn robbery! I've never left online comments before so I am not the complaining type but this hotel seemed to spur me on a little!! I am willing to be contacted if you wish to ask any questions.
best 2 weeks of our life
from lismm
we stayed here for 2 weeks..last week of aug, 1st week sept 2 adults & 2 children & thoroughly enjoyed the whole time..the hotel was very clean & staff were exceptionly friendly & helpful. the staff worked very hard & long hours but always smiled & chatted...in particular ritchie, maria, serkan, bob, omer, alper & salih. the staff spoke a number of languages well & always included the guests..encouraging everyone to just enjoy themselves. the restaurant was clean..not dark & dingy as described in some reviews? with plenty of choice, lunch times offered either pool bar snacks (burgers, salad, pizza etc) or more choice in the restaurant. food was always well presented and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. the children enjoyed the kids disco every night & mini club in the day, aswell as the pools & day activiites. the spa was fantastic & a real bargain!! the all-inclusive drinks do stop @ midnight, but you can carry on drinking till whenever you like @ fair prices. food was available on request throughout the night cheaply too. the only problem we had was that otbeach advertised that ice-creams were included in all-inclusive but they weren't..but they were available @ very reasonable prices. the hotel is in a secluded location, but offers free buses daily aswell as public buses just down the road..or you can just enjoy the seclusion relaxing in the sun!! we wouldn't reccommend the hotel for those looking for action-packed holidays..eg lads hols/teenagers etc but it's perfect for families or anyone looking for a relaxing holiday!
Very Nice

Had a lovely stay, all the staff was very nice and Richie was such a laugh. I would go back and my baby also had a good time. The hotel was clened every day, you would see the cleaner working very hard. Food was ok, could of done a bit more to improve it, but was not bad has none of us had a back tummy. Thank you
I Booked Then Read The Reveiws...
from annie22121968
We have just returned from a weeks stay at the club mermaid hotel.I must say I was not looking forward to going i had booked for my partner son and my parents (parents are staying for 2 weeks) i read the reveiws after i had booked so can you imagine how i was feeling .... my son didn't really want to go anyway because of the rescent bombing in Alanya but off we went.I didn't mention the reveiws to my parents or my son just my partner. Well after what i read i was very pleasantly surprised that much so i wasn't sure i stayed in the same hotel as you all. O.K the entertainment was made up by the guest and some of the catch phrases were getting on my nerver's but hey it was the english who made them up CHEAP AS CHIPS ....... But dark dingy restaurant wasn't what i saw.I thought the food was great plenty of choice and as for Turkey belly no not any of us the staff were very helpful and i thought Richie did a very good job of including and welcoming the guests. The only negitive thing that we can say about our holiday was the town was to far away but buses went every twenty mins at the bottom of the road .the local beach was great i never minded spending 12 lira on 5 sun beds .I would go again ...
hell on earth

forget this hotel as being allinclusive, its a long way of! the food is disgusting, we did not feel like eating any of it, and that was just looking at what was being offered. the food is left out in the heat, uncooked meats are placed on the bbq next to so called cooked meats, wich are served half cooked. The knife, forks and spoons are placed on the table with dried on food from the previouse user! the plates are no better. its no wonder that all the english guests sufferd with terrible sickness and diorea! The bar staff will use there bare hands to handle your ice before placeing it in your plastic beaker! The choice of alchol is vert limited, and this stops at midnight, just after the club opens where you will now have to pay! The beach pictuers on the web site are very differnt to what you will get! the sun beds are very low and on the floor. If you want a matress on this, you have to pay extra each day! The hotel is now situated in a building site, Again not what is advertised on the web site,or in the hotel broucher! We could not waite to get out of this place. I would not recomend this hotel to anybody!
Hotel lovely...but food awful
from CEBEC
Have just returned from a last minute holiday to Club Mermaid in Alanya. Thankfully we only spent a week in this hotel. I read the reviews after I booked this hotel and was a bit worried but nonetheless thought everone elses expectations are different. The review here is a pretty good picture of the holiday you can expect to have. Firstly...let me say that the hotel itself is very clean and nice...marbled flooring throughout the hotel...lovely modern buildings......clean rooms.....4 pools including 2 for very young children.....3 fun water slides. I feel that this is what warrants its 4 * rating. The biggest turn offs for me were the following: * the lack of sun beds...we would get up at 8 am to leave out towels here! which I have never done anywhere else * The dining areas were a bit dark & dinghy Now for the most awful part of this hotel is the food & drinks. As this is an all inclusive hotel I would have expected this part to be good especially as it is a 4 * hotel. NO! it was more like a 2 * at the best. Lets start with the drinks....picture the scene......scorching heat.....parched? A lovely beer or cocktail....no....reality is here your drinks are served in some of the worst plastic cups with the rims peeling off...they are hot from being washed and the drinks they serve you are warm. So you end up feeling as if you are drinking tea. You only have ice if you ask for them. It was the worst part of the holiday....no cocktails or anything like that. It is not the fault of the staff as they work incredibly hard....the management has to be blamed for their appalling attutide to this vital part of your holiday. Lunch consisted of turkish pizza (lahmahcun) which is thin bread, another bread like pastry which is made fresh there and then by a local woman or the daily lunch was burgers and chips and very lank looking salad leaves or other salad which looked just as awful. The chips were awful everyday. By the third day we were getting sick of the horrible food. The evening meals were also crap....we ended up eating out 2 evenings as I just could not face eating there again. Having stayed in an all incusive in mexico (the RIU) last year I was expecting high standards. The fruits were left out in the open and so were not ice cold as they should have been.....leaving them on platters of ice would have helped. Its a shame as I said the hotel itself is not bad, but you just need a new management team in to turn the catering department around and this COULD be a nice hotel. I would not recommend it though as it is. Hope this helps
Hell...........

Do you want to experience HELL and pay for it with your hard worked money? Then welcome to club mermaid village. You'll find everything here to show you how hell looks. First of all if anyone is thinking of booking this hotel change your mind NOW, don’t torture yourself and your family. Hotel was lovely and clean, food was ridiculous, cold, flies all over, worms in the supposedly fresh fruit, cold drinks in hot glasses, no ice creams or juice included in all inclusive or snacks, you even had to pay for snooker cues and darts. The entertainment at nights were the hotel staff making fun of different nations that we couldn’t understand because they didn’t care for the English but if you talk fluent German you will be fine. Water slides are only on for 1 hour a day and you really have to beg them to open them. Be careful if you need late check-out. I was forced to pay £35 to extend my stay until 23:00, however, I especially asked for it when I booked hotel with On the beach. When i called to our rep to sort it out he says that it's Sunday and it's his day off and he is sleeping (14:00) and can't do anything with it. There are many other hidden extras so be aware of it. It's 12 miles away from Alanya and you are stuck there. I have never been on a holiday where I have been glad to leave, just sad to leave people we met behind. But this time I was so happy to leave. Thank god I'm back to England.

Just come back on the 1st oct 2011 from this Hotel and what a week it has been. People will say when in Turkey knock off a star off the Hotel Grade. This is a 4 star hotel and a very good one at that. The only reason I think this is not a 5 star is because of the location?... more
