We have just come back from our honeymoon in Jamaica we stayed at the Shaw
Park hotel and it was fantastic.
I must admit I was abit nervous at first because we booked it as a late deal on the Thomson website and only paid £550 each all inclusive, which is such a bargain and I wondered why it was so cheap. We definitely got our money’s worth let me tell you abit about it.
Food:
Meals are served at set times Breakfast is 7.30-10.30 Lunch 12.30-2.30 Afternoon tea: 3.30-5.30 and dinner 7.30-10.30
The food is fantastic me and my husband are extremely fussy eaters my husband eats no veg at all and I eat no meat apart from chicken but there was always at least 3 cooked meal choices at lunch and dinner.
There was also a chef cooking pasta with a variety of sauces and vegetables, meat so if you didn’t like any of the meal choices you could have pasta which was yummy.
There is also a variety of different salads on offer at both lunch and dinner time and 3 or 4 desserts the desserts where nice but they all seemed to have a gingery taste to them no matter what they where!! Must be a Jamaican thing!! Apart from the cappuccino cheesecake that was fab I could have ate the whole thing!!
Breakfast was fab there was always an option of porridge or cereal but that’s boring!when there was a massive platter or fresh exotic fruit and melon, pancakes, various pastries, bacon, sausage and again there’s a chef there who will do you scrambled eggs, omlette, fried eggs on demand, which is cool there was always a massive queue for the omelettes!!
The only thing we didn’t really bother with was afternoon tea because we were always so full up!! But I think at tea there was tea and coffee on offer and a big platter with a variety of sandwiches.
You can also get snacks throughout the day but we never needed too. The drinks were great, the beer is red stripe and its cold and refreshing similar to fosters and nothing is watered down!! Which makes a change for an all inclusive.
We drank white wine and beer but mainly cocktails which are out of this world!! I love cocktails but these where fantastic there was one called the humming bird which to me tasted like McDonalds strawberry milkshake. It was hard to believe it had rum in it which I don’t usually like.
They also did a pina colada which again was gorgeous, like a creamy vanilla/coconut milkshake not like any pina colada I’ve ever had before and the brown cow is nice just like a chocolate mudshake if you have ever tried one.
The staff are ever so good and also make their own special cocktails if you tell them what sort of thing you like, but they are very strong!!
The beach is gorgeous just like the brochure and its exclusive to the hotel which means it’s not really over crowded.
All the rooms at this hotel have a sea view which is magnificent I thought the sound of the waves crashing was going to do my head in but it’s so relaxing and I’ve never slept so well. The only thing that wasn’t as fantastic was the room. It was nice don’t get me wrong but when we first got there our bathroom window was broken and there was no hot water but my husband went down to reception and complained and it got sorted straight away.
I did notice before we went that on trip advisor the reviews for this hotels aren’t very good and mention the hot water problem but as soon as we complained about it they sorted it out and we had lovely hot water for the rest of the week. The beds are enormous they could fit 4 people in them!!
There is a TV in the room which has all American channels on but there were some good films on and plenty of episodes of friends and the Simpsons!!
The rooms are typically 3 star no frills just basic but comfy and most importantly clean but the view and fantastic food and drink are more than worth it.
A maid visits each day and makes the bed and changes the towels and pillowcases and mops the floors, she was very friendly all in all, I would say this was a fab hotel.
I’ve been on many holidays but none of them that I’ve enjoyed so much that I’ve felt compelled to write a review.
We only went for a week but other guests that were there that had been there 2 weeks and some that had been coming back year after year all seemed equally as pleased we are planning to go back.
One thing I will say is I didn’t see any young children there and I don’t know if there would be much to do there for kids and the sea gets deep very quickly.
There are plenty of trips and boat rides to do there was a lovely lady who is located by reception that arranges them all and they aren’t that expensive.
Went to the town for the day it’s a 10 min car ride and that was a good day out there are a couple of markets there and plenty of gift shops and a supermarket, which is the cheapest and a kfc and burger king.
It was good fun haggling, you can get stuff a lot cheaper than they originally say, we picked up some bargains.
Within walking distance of the hotel there’s a big petrol station, if you walk right for 10 mins, and a little parade of village shops if you walk left for 10 mins (behind the Texaco garage).
Hope this review is helpful to you if you go to this hotel. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
