" it wasnt too bad "

i stayed in room 712 in oct 08,it was small but basic and clean.i had an oven hob, table and chairs, balcony with a table and chairs, fridge, plenty of cutlery,an extra radiator if needed,phone,2 beds, wardrobe, hot water.the beds were changed daily, and the staff were pleasant and laid back, the sea was 5mins walk infront, and the station and shops a 10min walk to the left.plenty to do like pubs, the sea, touring to other towns via trains, eating out at tapas bars.the room also has a tv.the weather was ok other than one stormy day,but thats not spains fault.the lifts worked ok.i didnt bother with the cafe,as i brought food from the big supermarket 2mins to the right.the swimming pool and garden was clean, plenty of sunbeds and ok people.nice view of the mountains behind, internet place over the road, plenty of banks,a zoo, etc.the only 2 things i didnt like is that the bath was a bit short, and the lock on the balcony door was iffy, but it was impossible for next door to climb over,so i chanced it and was totally ok.going there again in oct.stayed at a posh one in aug 3 yrs ago(pyr) on the seafront,no hob and broken fridge.says it all.oh and mates are allowed up in the room.my mate suzie lives out there and they didnt have a problem with her visiting me.the place is a bit built up,but its a resort, and i heard drills at 10 on 2days,but i was awake by then,so it didnt bother me

Advice: plenty of shops, cheap in oct with onthebeach.com ie 55 return flight, room 63 each between 3 if book

Activities: the beach, the zoo, bars, horse and flamenco fair in oct 6th/12th

Good for: Beach

" Glad to be home. "

First of all the taxi drivers (there were 6 of us so two cars) had never heard of the veramar, both cars cost 37 euros each.. not a good start! Two shared one room and four of us shared a family room, so had to add two beds to our room. The microwave didn't work but was replaced the following day. Our fridge had rust on the outside and at the bottom. Not enough hot water through out the day, okay if you enjoy cold showers. The room was very small, dark and dated. Not enough cooking utensils, I think 2 forks, 3 knifes, 1 spoon. Beds rock hard, okay if you need back support (we don't) Luckily enough we did have a pillow each though! Bought tickets from reception to go to the local waterpark who confirmed that it would be the same price as on the door, then my son passed me a 12 euro discount voucher from reception. I pointed this error out immediately to two staff members and only after standing my ground for 10 minutes, they reluctantly refunded the difference. Recommend the waterpark, good day out. The beaches are a 5 minute walk, although we did not spend much time there as the sand was boiling hot and unable to walk on, and the water was freezing, didn't see anyone swimming. At the pool in the hotel we counted 22 sunbeds, needed to get up early to get one. The pool was clean and the right temperature. The supermarket was close. The workman woke us up 7-30am -8am every morning, they worked all day replacing pipes in the road outside our hotel, loud and dusty. There were plenty of eating places along the beach, recommend Rons Place, the fish and chip shop (can't remember the name) next to it and the bar next to that (Corbys Cafe). As a family we couldn't find much evening entertainment, told there was karaoke but couldnt find it and the hotel didn't offer any. Were not usually moaners but if it wasn't for good weather we'd have had a terrible time.

Advice: Cold sea, goes form half a foot to 8 feet in four steps, careful for young children.

Activities: Corbys Cafe, Rons Place.

" Veramar Apartments- Dump!!! "

Me and my girlfriend booked a week self catering in the Veramar Apartments in September 2008. Upon arrival to the hotel we were disappointed with the appearence and overall feel of the hotel; reception looked very dull and smelt rather funny. we were given a 2nd floor apartment at the rear of the hotel. "How bad can it be, its rated 3 stars!" i told myself having read various reviews on this website. How wrong was I? the room was dark and dingy, the lights above the beds didnt even work, the wiring on the main lights were showing. The fridge door was covered in rust, and the bathroom wall and roof were covered in damp. To top things off the "balcony" was on the same level as the resturant roof, and it was a complete mess, rubble and dirt everywhere.the balcony door didnt lock properly so i was very dubious about leaving anything in our rooms at all. Workmen woke us up every morning at 8am banging the hell out of some old air condition boxes with a lump hammer. Im not one to complain at all but this was awfull. After an small argument i did however managed to get us moved to the 4th floor, which was fine, room was clean, happy days!!!
The hotel was in a good location with most things nearby, supermarket, beach, pubs, and also the zoo. It didn't help with spain having the worst weather in along time that very week we were there.
Overall we found fuengirola to be a lovely place, but the hotel was awfull, i wouldnt recommend it to anyone. It really put a dampner on what was suppose to be a relaxing holiday.
I have pictures of our original room (coming soon), which im sure people will agree, its just not acceptable.

" as soon as we got to the veremar the... "

as soon as we got to the veremar the kitchen had smelt like someone had died in there, there was all crap down the toilet and a huge soap ring around the bath. i wouldnt recommend this hotel to anybody. the sheets felt clammy and it was all dusty everywhere and the fridge smelt very bad! overall i rate this hotel 3 out of 10. although it was close to the beach, zoo, supermarket and other main attractions that was fine, also the all you can eat buffet was worth 5 euros. i wouldnt stay at the veremar again, but the staff there were very helpful. as soon as you walk into the veremar aparthotel into the reception there is a very unusual smell. The bar was never open and the swimming pool was always filthy and not heated at much of a tempreture but what else do you expect for 3*.
Very poor and never again i dont think!

" We stayed in a so called family room... "

We stayed in a so called family room which was a room with 4 single beds a fridge and a microwave. This room was far too small for 4 people. There was also a horrible smell in the room all week.
The Veramar apartments are however clean and in a brilliant location 5-10 mins walk to everything, beach, town centre, zoo, water park, train station.
We stayed in peak season and although there wasn't many sunbeds there was almost enough to go around. Lovely and relaxing by the pool and a nice change from lines and lines of sunbeds crowded around the pool.
The only thing I didn't like about these apartments was the size of the family room but not all of the rooms were like this so if you are thinking of going to these apartments go but don't book the family room.

" My boyfried and I have been staying... "

My boyfried and I have been staying at the Veramar every year for the past 7 years. We have never had a bad experience here. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are adequately sized. The bed linen is changed every other day. The Veramar is ideally situated as it is within 10 mins walk to the Zoo and 10 mins walk to the beach, shops and bars. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a low-cost holiday without all the frills. The only thing I would say is that there is no air-conditioning in the rooms. Other than that we love it and will continue to stay year on year.

" me and my friend had a short break at... "

me and my friend had a short break at the apartments and i can say we throughly enjoyed it. there was nothing that we thought was to a less standard for a 3 star apartment. the room was clean, beds were nice and firm, I had an excellent nights sleep. the buffet for breakfast was nice and good value for 5 euros as we could eat as much as we liked. the bar staff were very friendly, overall it was a pleasant experience. the beach was not too far away and do recommend the Gali Gali beach bar and also Mamma Mia's as a restaurant to eat of a night time. i felt totally relaxed and to get away for a few days was fantastic. i have recommended this place to a fellow work mate i will recommend to other people.

" Having read the reviews left on this... "

Having read the reviews left on this website I decided that the good reviews outweighed the bad ones and booked these apartments for me & my partner to stay in for a week in July - big mistake. People had said they would recommed these apartments to a friend & all I can say is they mustn't think very much of their friends!

Taxi drivers from the airport had never heard of this place & when I arrived I could see why. The outside of the premises was dirty & shabby looking with a small pool & baby pool surrounded by grass & approximately 20 sunbeds. There are 10 floors in this hotel so there aren't enough sunbeds to accomodate even a floor of guests. In addition to this because of the size & location of the building, the pool was half in the shade by 4pm everyday & everyone was squeezed onto the tiny patio. When we entered the reception area to check in we were greeted by an unwelcoming male receptionist who advised that our room did not have a safety deposit box however we could pay to use one in reception, which are in full view of all guests. The apartment itself was clean however there wasn't room to swing a cat & our pool view was of a dirty car park & a pool that belonged to private Spanish rented apartments next door. Their is no air conditioning anywhere in this hotel & fans apparently cost 2 euro per day to hire, although I have a friend who got hers for free. The walls are paper thin & you can hear every word your neighbours say and the beds are like sleeping on an ironing board.

I could not wait to get home from this place & wanted to leave a review so that no one else makes the same mistake as me.

" I thought the hotel was ok. The rooms... "

I thought the hotel was ok. The rooms was basic, the bath was dirty and wasnt clean when we arrived. however, the bedding and floors was spotless.

The rooms came with 2 beds, a kitchen (microwave & hobs) and a bathroom with a built-in shower. the decoration was a bit outdated but wasnt nothing serious.

The hotel had a bar (which wasnt open at the time) and a buffet for 5 euros. the breakfast was really nice and the lady was a good cook.

The staff at the hotel was polite and would do everything to make sure your stay was pleasent, the hotel was 5 mins away from the beach, the shopping mall, the train station and restaurants.

The hotel infact was quite and the swimming pool was ok but would be better if it was bigger but theres no room to improve it.

oveall i would rate it 10/10 for its hospitaly but 5/10 for the hotel in general.

" Just b4 we went on our holiday,I... "

Just b4 we went on our holiday,I spotted the view from Mr McLeod who gave the Veramar 2/10, and obviously that concerned me, no need.
Mr McLeod may well have had a sh1te holiday but I've no idea why he blamed the Veramar. We were allocated room 315 and It was fine, certainly no sign of dodgy wiring that he reported.
Brekkie in the morning was 5 euros and was apparently brilliant value, I have cancer so thats the reason I didnt eat there, but my missus and parents did and they thought it was excellent value.
It's true there arent enough sunbeds to go round and u have to get down earlyish and put your towels out, but then I've seen that carry-on in 5* hotels.
It is only a 300metre or so walk to the beach and probably a further 400 to the resort centre, and thats where most of the good restaurants and bars are.
Gali Gali a bar from 1970 is worth a visit on the beach, and I would highly reccomend the Yorkshire Rose for a nighttime meal.
All in all I had a good 10 day break at the Veramar. The one thing I will say however is that Fuengirola as a holiday resort is now rather dated, but then again so is Spain.
I had'nt been to Spain in a few years, and I remember now why I stopped going, it's lost it's sparkle,it's as simple as that.
That my friends is what I think Mr McLeod was trying to say, only he made an @rse of it and blamed the Veramar, which is totally unfair

" arrived at the place called veramar... "

arrived at the place called veramar apartments 1 on a rainy day so had no choice but to sit in. got room 814. when we got in the room it was very very dated and of poor standard. pool was very dirty and the staff did not speak a lot of english. in 812 nextdoor we had a couple from norway who where taking drugs and drinking till 3 in the morning. Because they where not on this planet they started to shout we asked to be moved but the couple must have woke every person up in the place as they went round every door kicking it and the staff done nothing about this. In 814 i would go as far to say that it was dangerous as there was sockets missing or hanging off the wall and well for the amount of money paid thats the last thing you want to see. Anyway we got moved to 802 we stayed in that room 1 night before the mircowave blew up in which the staff would not believe us and blamed us for doing it until they went up and seen it. so we got moved again in to 803 which had they lights hanging off the wall. the beds in all the rooms are of very bad old quality and the standard of the rooms are what i would say not fit for a dog. it was like being put in bagdad, the place was not fit for anyone the beach was tops and the zoo i cant say enough good things about but the place in general was a dive. would not recommend to anyone especially people with kids very dangerous place. never again shall i go to a dive like that. i looks great on the internet till you see it in real life. all this in a week we could not wait to get home away from that place.

" The room was clean with a Tv, kitchen... "

The room was clean with a Tv, kitchen (micromave, hobs, etc), bathroom and 2 beds.

The service was good and the staff was polite, the maids came every 2 days with clean towels and mopped the floors and the beds was changed every 3 days when we was there for 2 weeks, the location is near the beach and the town centre.

Overall 9/10 not one of my best holidays but its in the top 5!! out of the 17 holidays ive had

" I went on an all girls holiday in... "

I went on an all girls holiday in June/July '07 and the Veramar Apartments was a fantastic hotel, which we used as a base to sleep and get ready to go out.

The rooms were basic, but clean and the beds were comfortable enough. The only problem we had was that 4 of us were put in a smaller room to our friends who only had 3 in a room!

The pool and area surrounding it was clean and the pool was not too cold. The only problem was the occasional waft of bad smells from the road and flies from the bins.

It was only 10 minutes walk to the clubs and even less to the beach, which was handy when sleeping, as you couldn't hear any of the nightlife noises.

We are honestly considering visiting Veramar again this summer, as we had such a fantastic holiday, the staff were great and polite and helped us with any problems we had.

" The apartments are very basic and in... "

The apartments are very basic and in need of refurbishment, sockets were missing, ceiling light wire was hanging through the ceiling.

Landed on the Friday evening maids only came on the Tuesday, changed beds on Wednesday and didn’t see them again. Even though we had booked for three people there were only two dining chairs and two patio chairs.

In self catering apts. that we have stayed in before you have had a seating alternative, here it was the bed or sat at the table.

Pool area was okay but in high season it wouldn't be as there wasn't enough beds or space. The pool was dirty but this could have been due to the time of year.

In summer we paid not much more than we did for this holiday and went to Bulgaria and we stayed in fantastic accommodation, so the price that we paid for this holiday definitely did not match the high standard that we got in summer, but we booked that holiday through first choice.

If you book these apartments don’t expect too much as you will be disappointed.

" I really think it depends which room... "

I really think it depends which room you get in this place. We was on the top floor (808) and it was the smallest room I’ve ever been in and I’ve been in a lot of small rooms!
It looked like something out of an 80's movie with it’s old fashioned run down atmosphere.

The view was dreadful over looking the "pool" which is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen! The surrounding area is very run down and needs a lick of paint on pretty much every building, however, when you reach the town things turned nice! Cool shops and some nice bars. People coming to your table smelling of goats and begging for money got a little old after a bit though. The train system here is great too. We spent most of our time in Benalmadina because it’s a 15 min train ride and costs about 70p each! The reception staff was always very helpful in pointing us to the bus routes and things like that – 10/10 for them!

I definitely wouldn’t return to this place or the resort in fact but am returning to Benalmadina in a few months.
