The Gran Vista is an excellent hotel. The pool area is in gardens with tree's giving shade so no need to hunt down an umbrella. There is 2 pools one has pools on different levels with waterfalls and another pool close to the garden entrance, they are both excellent. There... more

What a wonderful hotel. The lovely gardens and pool area with 2 pools, plenty of shade from the tree's in the garden and no fight for sunbeds. We came down to the pool after mid-day and there were plenty of sunbeds. The main pool in the garden is suitable for toddlers... more

Our best holiday
We have just returned from a great time at the Gran Vista. We could not find fault with anything. All the staff were pleasant and polite - even though we were English. There were quite a few Britsh there and we made some new friends. We found the Germans pleasant and, if we had spoken their language, we would have made more friends. The food was fantastic - especially on the Gala night. The firework display that evening was superb. Our room was clean with wonderful views of the mountains and Alcudia bay. The Spa and fitness centre was very good and we made frequent use of it. It will be difficult to find another hotel to compare to this!
Brilliant
Lovely Hotel, great food, lovely rooms, friendly staff. Trouble with sunbeds as usual. Plenty around but if you need a good back support the beds near the main pool are best but get reserved very early, sad people must get up and put their towels there. Hotel states does have policy to remove towels but no evidence that this is put into practice. Towels there for hours with no one on them. Also if you want a seat outside to eat get there before opening time and sit at the seat outside no queueing at the front doors all the germans do it.
Good holiday, Lovely hotel
Firstly, we booked this holiday with "xcapewithus.com" a company I hadn't used before, but had a very good deal for a 5 x night stay, will deal with them again, Very Good!! We arrived at 1.30 a.m and checked in very quickly and efficiently to a very nice room at the front of the Hotel a quiet situation. We then went down to the Dining Room as we had been told that there was a cold buffet available, very similar to when we stayed at the Grupotel Maritimo a couple of years ago, and also had a late arrival time. The Gran Vista had a few similar qualities and the same high standards as The Maritimo. We found the food very good and a good variety, I am more adventurous than my husband, but there was always plenty of choice. Also a choice of where to eat, 3 Dining areas plus outside seating, and plenty of tables for 2. The pool area was lovely with different areas depending if you wanted shade and fun pools or swimming, a nice pool bar where you could sit in the shade or take your drink back to your sunbed, plenty of sunbeds for everyone. The entertainment was good and varied although only being there for 5 days we didn't see many shows. It was also nice to be close to the resort centre as we walked down some evenings either early or later. We did see one singer, down in the town, who was due to be on at the hotel after we had left, ( Robbie Williams Tribute, Very Good!) It was also our first visit to Ca'n Picafort, and we liked the Resort very much, although we do like to keep trying different resorts this one will be on our "return list" together with this Hotel.
Fab Hotel Food & Service
Fab hotel. Teenage children (16 & 13) - plenty to do for them, yet activities not "in your face" if you didn't want to join in. Food absolutely superb. Service brilliant. Maitre d' to be commended, and Head Chef. I'd definitley return. Enjoyed 12 nights. Superb location. Yes, the place was full of Germans, but they were all v nice!! Recommend.
Great location
We have just returned from Gran Vista after a ten night stay. When we arrived the reception staff were not at all friendly. We booked with Thomson's. There was no rep to greet us. We were allocated a room on the first floor. We were so disappointed when we walked into our room. We went to Sa Coma last year and our room was massive. In comparison this was tiny. We went straight to our balcony and were even more disappointed, we were overlooking a dirty green roof and thats all we could see. We returned to reception, the staff ignored us, prefering to deal with the German guests. Eventually we were seen to and said we were not happy with our room. The girl was extremely rude but eventually moved us to room 444. Our balcony view was slightly better. The room had obviuosly been set up for a family and had 3 single beds crammed in. Housekeeping came and removed the extra bed. There was a huge mirror on the wall which was balancing on the dressing table due to a broken screw in the wall. We reported it, after two days they replaced it onto the wall and the next day it was off again. We just left it. The air conditioning wasn't great. We think it was being controlled by reception. So for example we would have to re-set it 4 or 5 times in the night as it would go off. Maybe that was just our room. All that aside, the rest of the hotel was fantastic. The pools were great, but absolutely freezing. It was so peaceful, a bit too peaceful. Yes the hotel is FULL of Germans. That suited us fine, we don't go on holiday to make new friends. And obvioulsy the Germans have the same thought in mind! The restaurant is brilliant. Its huge. Staff not too friendly, except Laura, who was always smiling. The food was brilliant, both breakfast and dinner. However, we did eat out the last two nights because we got so fed up of the rudeness of some of the German people. There was no shortgae of food, but they feel the need to jump in front of you in the queues. I just wish I knew some German so I could have told them that there's plenty of food to go around!! The health club is amazing. The Jacuzzi and sauna etc do not open until 4pm though. But its worth a visit. The bar is ok. Again, the staff are not friendly except for Julio, he's great! Entertainment pretty poor. We went to a restaurant/bar called Oasis every night. They had tribute bands every night. Madonna, The Bee Gees, The Drifters, etc. The best by far was The Jackson Five. You must go and watch them if you get the chance, brilliant. The staff at Oasis were lovely. And the meals were gorgeous. There are plenty of other bars and restaurants. Can Picafort is such a safe, gorgeous place. The beach is brilliant, though gets rammed. Make sure you take high factor sun cream with you, its so hot over there. Alcudia is a bus ride away. But we quickly returned to Can Picafort, didn't like Alcudia, its so spread out. We went to Porto Pollensa twice on the bus.(45 mins. Bus number 2. Cost 2 Euro) That was unbelievable, you must go. The fish swim around your feet. We went on a boat trip to Formentor. Wow! Absolutely stunning. We went from Porto Pollensa and it cost 9 euros return. If you book through your rep it will cost you 28 euros!! If you intend to spend a few hours in Formentor make sure to take lunch with you or if you prefer you can pay 7 euro 50 for a sandwich in the restaurant there !!!!! On our last day we went to have a nose at some other hotels in Can Picafort. Gran Vista is without a doubt the best. We went into La Tonga, what a dump. Fully inclusive and full of screaming kids. We will be returning to Can picafort. Probably go back to Gran Vista Hotel, but next time pretend to be German! If you are looking for a place for a hen or stag do Can picafort is not the place, I'm pleased to say! People told us before we went that its really quiet and we would be bored. No way! There's so much to do but so relaxing and laid back if thats what you want.
Excellent-can't wait to return
Just returned from the Gran Vista hotel. The hotel is well situated close to the main pedestrian strip in C'an Picafort, within easy walking distance to the beach. I stayed there with my boyfriend (both mid 20's) and we loved it. The hotel is extremely clean, and is first class. We stayed half board and the food was good/excellent and there was sufficient variety. If I had to be picky I would say that one of my only criticisms is that you had to find a table at dinner time, and this could be difficult when the restaurant was busy. Other than that the food quality was excellent. The bedrooms are air-conditioned and are modern, with nice double showers (no bath), and there is an empty minibar which you can request to be filled, or alternatively you can use it free of charge. During our holiday the majority of the hotel guests were German, which we liked as they were extremely friendly and courteous. The best aspect of the hotel is the facilities. There are 2 main outdoor pools, one a lagoon format with waterfalls, and the other which is more suitable for swimming, The hotel is set in gardens and therefore there is ample shade, although you can also get plently of sun. The loungers are free and there are mattresses too. There are swimming coaches who teach children to swim, although there is a fee for this. There are 2 astroturf tennis courts, mini-golf, volleyball, games room (tennis and mini golf is free). The spa is fantastic and is also free to use, and has sauna, steam room, elaxation room, iglu room, cold bath, jacuzzi, and hydrotherapy pool. I would highly recommend the treatments, especially the back massages. There is also a gym, and various aerobics, spinning, yoga, gym classes which are free. You can rent a towel for 10 euros a day and this can be changed every day. My second and final criticism is that the majority of staff are not very friendly and tend to provide preferential treatment to the German /spanish guests, although this is not a major criticism and due to the other great aspects of the hotel, I would certainly return. This hotel would appeal to a variety of travellers, young / older couples, families and single travellers.
Fantastic, best hotel I've stayed at!
This is a fantastic hotel. The staff are very friendly and will do anything to help. We had a suite- which was wonderful, loads of space and very clean. The pools and the garden are excellent, as is the playground. No complaints with the food either- something for everyone. There is a lot of germans, but there was no problems with sunbeds!! Overall a great hotel, which made a brilliant holiday, I envy anyone staying there!
Full of Germans!!!!!!
The hotel and its gardens are beautiful, however if you happen to get a room which is at the rear of the hotel (e.g. facing the gardens and the pool) ask for a room on the 4th or 5th floor. When we arrived we were given room number 165 - we looked out of the balcony and could see only the roof of the restuarant and a generator - hmmm lovely! Especially when we'd requested a pool view so we spoke to out Thomson rep who spoke to reception and we were allocated a room on the top floor (5th) the view was amazing and worth the palava of moving rooms! The only bad thing about this hotel is that the guests are 99% german and not very friendly. We didnt speak to a soul during our week there, and when you smile/acknowledge them they look straight through you! Food was good and varied each night, the pool and gardens were beautiful and the beach nearby is lovely also. My final thought - holiday would have been better if there were more british holidaymakers. (May 2007)
Great location, friendly staff
I agree with the previous reviewers opinions-- the hotel is definitely geared toward German guests. To me that was not a problem, except that in Spain I would prefer to speak Spanish than German. Staff is very friendly. Hotel is very clean, comfortable. Facilities are plentiful, well-maintained. "Welcome" show on Monday night is pretty hokey. Great view from Panorama Bar, but drinks are not very good (weak). Food in restaurant is hit-or-miss. We had several really great meals, and several that were not so good. But selection is fantastic. Location is great, a short walk to the beach, decent selection of restaurants and bars in the area. One complaint is that the air conditioning seems to be kept in an energy-saving mode and never really cooled the room sufficiently. Overall I would recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there again.
good hotel
The Apartment hotel rooms are good-enough for a family with two kids-well decorated and pleasing to the eye. The hotel is kept very clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The facilities for swimming are excellent-4 swimming pools of which two are purely for babies till 12 year olds-there is another with can be used by adults as well as kids. All the pools designed weill and look quite nice. There are also 2 indoor pools but i haven't looked at them. The Kids club is very good and the kids are well entertained.. The problems are:80% of the guests are German,15% English and the rest mixed-this means everything is really done tot he tastes of Germans:The food i found the weakest part of the hotel-very average at the most and the reastaurant has more of a canteen atmosphere as its overcrowded and tables are too close to each other. Overall we were satisfied totally with the hotel and the 5 minute walk to the beach is totally pleasant.
