Submitted By: Mr X XythLocation: Only 100m from the town sandy beach and very close to Port Aventura. However the travel agencies do not tell you that the beach is adjacent to the Tarragona Port and one of Spain’s main Oil Refineries. Sea water quality not the greatest and at couple of times late at night air stunk forcing us to close the window.
(Tried another beach in Villafortuny 6 miles away – much better, less crowded, clearer water)
Room: Stayed in Standard Duplex with wife and three kids. Room was clean and if asked it would be cleaned daily, but still found an ant colony. TV had no British language channels. (Only Euro-Sport and CNN in English).
Outdoor Swimming pool - OK but crowded at times.
Restaurant: Buffet style – A table was always available, but frequently you had to wait for certain food as Russian holidaymakers were grabbing and pyling everything as if there was no tomorrow. Food generally tasteless. Same dishes on different days tasted differently.
Ice-cream – small tubs of cheap industrial ice cream full of chemicals. Crisps available – Ready salted only. Soft drinks – Pepsi made, tasteless fizzy drinks only.
All inclusive drinks – Beer was OK, other drinks cheap undrinkable – house red wine is like vinegar, gin undrinkable, worth paying extra for proper brands. Cocktails pre-made, God knows with what. After this experience I am not sure if it is worth going all inclusive, paying for cheap booze, that is hazardous to your health and in the end you end up not drinking it at all.
Bar staff attitude – extremely bad, as if they were giving you drinks for free.
Entertainment : Poor, unless you happen to like Russian karaoke. Nearby Salou much livelier.
I will most probably return to the area but not only that I will avoid Palas Pineda Hotel, but La Pineda in general.
For a ‘4 star hotel’, Palas Pineda Hotel leaves a lot to be desired.

Submitted By: Mrs W HARKNESSThe Hotel /operator, were asked approx 3 times, that it was it was honeymoon, and we requested a double room ! - On arrival we had a twin room, and were told that the hotel was fully booked, and therefore not able to change.
The room only had 1 light working the rest did not work. Only Eurosport available on the TV.
The food was discusting ! No really choice, no flavour, no nothing ! The people also at this hotel (guest) were damm right rude.
On the stretch of beach near the hotel there are NO bars with live music or general atmospher. You will need to get a bus into Salu for this ! - Husband asked for a lager top in one bar and was given lager with orange juice in it ! NO CLUE.
Back to the hotel ! NO WAY A 4 * Hotel that's a joke !
NEVER AGAIN !

Submitted By: Miss E MckeownI went with my mun, dad, brother and sister- and we all really enjoyed it. However I think they could provide more entertainment, especially in the evenings because all there was, was an old man singing in spanish and singalong songs for young toddlers! I was also very disappointed in the weather because I went during easter and it rained a lot- I think the weather was actually better at home, but "apparently" we just got a bad week
Do not be put off by all the bad coments on here because generally people only leave a comment when they have to complain about something but I am pretty sure there were many more people who went and enjoyed it but didnt leave a comment.
Therefore I would really recommend it, as long as the weather stays nice.

Submitted By: Mr W WallaceLast year we stayed at the sol costa daurada in Salou and loved the hotel. The service was first class, so when we headed out to the Palas Pineda we looked forward to the delights another four star hotel would bring. It quickly became apparent the building was the only four star part to this hotel.
Arrived at the hotel at midnight, so checked in and headed straight to bed, next morning rose for breakfast. Plenty of choice food wise, we tried the cold fried eggs, the almost cold hot dog sausages and the really cold baked beans, and okay so maybe they had an off day.
Kids wanted an ice cream so went to the bar and asked, only to discover the ice cream was a tiny tub of cheap ice cream 2 tee spoons of ice cream and it was finished. Crisps choice was only plain crisps.
Lunch, revolved around more cold food, this time cold chips, the food was laid out buffet style although trying to choose was a nightmare as none of the food had a description of what it was. My kid tried the onion rings to discover they were fish rings.
Dinner revolved around Cold chips again, first time I tried the paella it was beautiful, second time it was burned, over salted and could have been used as a good adhesive in the construction industry.
Headed to the bar for a drink and waited my turn, finally stepped forward to get served to watch the older lady behind the bar walk by me and serve a Spanish couple behind me in the queue, they paid cash for their drinks and after a long chat with the bar maid they left, leaving me fuming.
Next day, breakfast, I had to wait in line to use the only toaster that the hotel had, by the time I returned with my toast the food was completely cold. At least 2 toasters is a must for a hotel of this size.
By the third day, I was grabbing chips from the buffet and handing them to the restaurant manageress, she felt the chips and shouted at the staff, two minutes later warm chips appeared.
Sat down to dinner, ate half my dinner then decided that I needed a drink from the all inclusive bar in the dinning room, when I returned to my table I discovered from the family that the waiting staff had walked up and lifted my plate without even asking if I was finished something that happened every time I headed for drinks.
Went for breakfast another day and almost slipped on the wet floor, the staff had been washing outside and the water had run into the start of the dinning area, although the best is still to come.
The night before we left we believed that things couldn't get any worse, at 10:40 we returned to the top bar to discover the bar empty with 2 bar staff behind the bar, stepped up to the bar I watched a bar tender trying to make a cocktail, while the girl stood wiping down the bar.
I waited, and waited, and waited.......and waited. Seven minutes later I walked out in disgust..... This left me and my family fuming.
Summary... Having worked in the hotel industry for years and stayed in upwards of 20 hotels I would say I am in a good position to judge.
This hotel would be a great place to stay if it was managed properly, for the most part the bar staff were reasonable, four of them were really friendly and done the job the way it should be done. One smaller guy ( a Barcelona Fan) was excellent and in my opinion would enhance any 5 star hotel. The rest didn't seemed to care about the job at all.
The food wasn't even fit to be served to the homeless in Spain, the "house" Whiskey was like Indian fire water. Spain serves large measures, but drinking their measures of cheap drinks is hazardous to your health.
If you have allergies, don't eat there, as you won't know what you’re eating. We spoke to the rest of the British couples and families and the same point arose time after time. As soon as you put on the all inclusive arm band, you become a second class citizen.
They have your money and are only interested in the guests paying cash over the bar.
Salou and La Pineda are well worth seeing, Portaventura will have every ride junkie well satisfied, Tarragona is beautiful, Barcelona is breathtaking. The water park in La Pineda is worth the money alone to see the dolphin show. We spent £2000 for 4 adults and 2 kids. The holiday would have been worth every penny if the hotel service was 4 star. It wasn't.
The British tourist industry is worth Billions to the Spanish economy each year, although that will quickly dry up if more Spanish hotels follow the Palas Pineda's example. We didn't expect perfection, but we didn't expect what we received either.
If you are going to Salou or La Pineda, find another hotel. Just as a matter of note, the Palas Pineda is advertising a new 5 star hotel in 2008. Maybe they should concentrate on reaching the 4 stars that their current hotel isn't living up to...
You have been warned...
" Stayed at Palas Pineda mid June 2007.... "
Submitted By: Mrs Mary CrowleyOf the two hotels, Palas II is the nicest so be sure to request this one. Rooms and hotel spotless apart from the balcony carpets in Palas I which were disgusting and the walls were very heavily scuffed.
This was our first all inclusive holiday. On our first day we realised that half board quests and all inclusive had separate restaurants.
The food was the same in both, but there was much more attention to detail in the half board restaurant, nicer layout, curtains, tables, floor tiles and while half board quests enjoyed cloth napkins, we had paper ones. We felt like the "poor relations". (Some of our party were half board).
I feel that this hotels caters mostly for Russian guests in terms of food and entertainment, quite a lot of fish and stewed meat dishes, however the chef also cooks pork, lamb, chicken and steak, though the portions are quite small.
I must say that during our stay I couldn't believe the greed of people. Plates piled high with melon in particular and more often than not left behind after the meal. So we learned to get our melon first or there would be none left.
The Russians were unbelievable rude when it came to dining room or queuing etiquette. Grab all and sod everyone else seemed to be the rule. So be prepared to stand your ground.
Entertainment - Ruben on his keyboard 3 out of 7 nights didn't rock our boat, nor did the 2 nights of Karaoke. The magic show and dancers were very good. Luckily our kids had made friends so it didn't matter. No kids club at his hotel. There is a hut where they can come and go as they please and colour or paint.
I would recommend this hotel if you book Palas II and take the half board option.

Submitted By: Mr D LovedayGood value for the children, went all inclusive was there for a week 7 nights 8 days.
Entertainment wasn’t all that, same most nights. Not a lot of English there, it’s more of a Russian hotel and a few Spanish.
You could easily get a meal a night with loads of choice for adults as well as children.
Resort nice & clean not noisy of a night time, you could hear people going to their rooms of a night time, didn’t bother us as we was well asleep and couldn’t really say they was very loud but you could hear the odd voice now and then.
Water Park near by only a 10 min walk away good fun for everyone.
All of us enjoyed our holiday and we will definitely be coming back next year.

Submitted By: Mr J NolanRooms okay but air conditioning will only cut in when balcony door is closed (contact switch on door). Rooms are noisy and you can hear everyone walking along the corridor.
Food was very poor, seemed to cater more for the Russian tourists which accounted for 90% of the guests.
The entertainment was rubbish, it repeated itself every 4th night. Organ player singing in Spanish & Russian.
Unlike other all inclusive, hotels we have stayed in you could not get any snacks between or after meals. You could have a packet of plain crisps but that was it.
Overall not great, will not be back.

Submitted By: Mr I E MoseleyWe went All Inclusive which is must because La Pineda had all but closed down during this the second week in November. The drink flowed but the food was absolutely first rate. Loads of choice, always something different, never empty trays, never cold, food for us plus a selection for our daughter who is three. We were waited on hand and foot.
A word of warning book at a similar time to us and be prepared to share a Hotel with a couple hundred manic Spanish pensioners (who were lovely and really livened the place up).
We will be back there soon !

Okay so i'll start with the rooms, Clean, with a large LCD tv, Plenty of towels, Fridge, etc...Not huge but no problem for the 3 of us!
Staff- Friendly,Spoke a little english we had no problems comunicating with them, Bar staff were very friendly we had a right giggle with some of them, Resturant staff were very nice too..remember they work extremly long hours, and when we finished are dinner we cleaned our own plates, which they seemed very gratefull for, i don't think they expected that! Lifeguards around the pool were nice too!
Food - Well i'm a very fussy eater and my 9yr old son is too, But he managed to find something each night, Okay they dont serve Hamburgers, KFC, and all the usual fastfood, but you are in SPAIN! There was a huge variety to choose from, fresh fruit, cooked meats, Plenty of Fish I.e Salmon, Cavier, Beef, Chicken, Chips, Vedge! Breakfest, Cereal, toast, Bacon, Beans, Jams, Yogurt...Everything you can think off, There was even FREE champers at breakfest if you wanted it! and plenty of juices! Oh and desserts looked tasty too, my son was in heaven!!!
Pool- Clean, very attractive, Outdoor Jacuzzi and very pretty greek statues placed around the pool area. Indoor pool very nice too, You have to wear a hat but thats no problem!
Entertaiment - Day time activities there were things to do, but we spent most of our holiday out of the hotel, There was a mini club but my son did not really use it, In the evenings there was entertaiment we see Belly dancers, Flamingo dancers, Magician, Motown singers, and African dancers, And Spanish singers.
On the morning we were leaving around 6,30 am they even opened the resturant for us, but we did not fancy eating, and they made our whole party packed lunches which was very kind! Sandwhiches, drink and biscuit and fruit, thought that was very nice :)
Rooms were cleaned everyday if you wanted and fresh towels.
Overall we had a lovely holiday, and would go back to this hotel if we were visiting La Pineda again.. Really am shocked to see people complaining especially about the food as there is plenty for everyone! And remember if you are nice to the staff they do smile, a little pleas and thankyou goes a long way...
Advice: It's small but it's a great base to explore other towns etc
Activities: Portaventura,Aquapolis waterpark, and gordans English Bar
Good for: Beach
