" Below average "

There are couple things I would like to say about Vincci hotel. At first, when we came we had to wait about 5 hours to get our room and after that we still had so much trouble because we were 4 people and they gave us a room for 2. The personal was mean and they didn't want to listen to us until we asked for the manager. Some rooms were in a bad condition, for example the furniture was broken or there was amissing window and just a hole in the wall. I felt like they didn't care at the begining.
On the other side, the food in the hotel is delicious, you could pick from many kinds and the hotel has a large pool with nice garden. The animation is great not even for kids but for adults also. The nearest town is 6 km far so the animators make program or beach party each evening and there are many sports activities you can join.
But the biggest disadvantage was the hotel beach because it was very dirty and full of sea plants; moreover, it often smelled all over the place. Some workes tried to clean it up but the beach was still kind of dirty. Sometimes it was impossible to swim there. So really, if you are going to Djerba in order to have nice beach and clean sea definitelly don't pick Vincci hotel.

" Absoloutly fantastic!!!

Absoloutly fantastic!!!

Accommodation: 10/10! The rooms (we had a twin) was gorgeous! two single beds pushed together, a little seat in the alcove, tv (not many english channels, but there is a music channel playing mostly english songs!) The bathroom was nice a big, rooms were quite big in general! lovely little balcony, with fantastic views to the sea if your at the back or over the pool if your room is at the front!

Food: 5/10! There isn't as much choice as you would expect as if you were somewhere like majorca, however, there is a great choice of food bt you do need to be willing to try new things! Keep away from the chicken, especially if it's pink! (i think they store it in djerban water, which gives us english a dicky tummy1) Other than that the food is very mediteranean, lots of salads, rice, pasta etc...you can also get pizza's and great pasta from the poolside restaurant during the day! Don't expect burger and chips though...it's quite traditional, but it's nice to know your a million miles away from mcdonalds! There is a fantastic Thai restraunt at the bottom of the road, and a great little steak house and bar along the top of the road near the hotel...try them, it only cost us the equivalent of £30 for two of us to have a 3 course meal and a bottle of wines plus cokes...massive portions at the thai and the food is out of this world (the do omlet and chips too!)

Entertainment: 6/10! very european...cabaret shoes etc! HOWEVER, if you turn right out of the hotel, and walk approx 5 mins down to the end of the road (nr the beach) turn right again and carry on walking for about 5/10 mins, there's a bowling alley and a few bars (nice friendly bars, with pool tables and are kid friendly) - it's not magaluf! The beach is lovely, nice and clean, and the little train that takes you from the hotel (2mins by train and 5 mins to walk) is an absoloute giggle!

Amenities: 10/10! the hotel has everything you need, the indoor pool and the health/beauty centre is lush! there are two supermarkets at the bottom of the road, and more further along, there is a lovely resterauntm great for snacks above the supermarket on the same side of the road as the hotel and the staff love the english and are very hospitable!

Trips: 10/10! Matmata & Douz...along time on the coach (it's airconditioned and completely refreshing, djerba is sooo hot!) riding a camel in the sahara is amazing, the trogolodyk caves are out of this world also! Midoun....nice for shopping! Barter barter and barter some more in the markets!!! Gualella...a quick day trip, jus to see it is worth it. Lighthouse/crocdile park...again nice way to break up the day, shopping centre there also (fab lacoste shop!!) Buggies etc...overall loads to do as well as water sports down at the beach and sports in the hotel!

Djerba is a fantastic holiday if you want to go somewhere non-commercialised and traditional! it still has everything you could possibly need while away on holiday, but without the tacky lights and frills of falaraki! You along with the others on your bus are the only english arriving at the hotel, make friends, enjoy the "bubbly bubbly" and the Boukah (in small doses! hehe) and enjoy being in a foreign country where you don't expect every waiter to reply in a cockney accent! People are friendly, especially out in the markets...we were 20 and 18 when we went, there's a nightclub (soundproofed for families though) and an amazing ice-cream shop!!! ENJOY!!

" We decided to go to Djerba so we... "

We decided to go to Djerba so we could go to the Sahara Desert.
We both agree about the standard of food which was very poor and we ended up eating mainly rice and pasta in the hotel restaurent.
we had a lot of trouble with staff in the shop.
The beach was not to bad, but nothing to do outside of the Hotel.
The outdoor restaurent staff ignored the English all the time but served every other nationality.
We went on safari into the Sahara Desert which was worth the money about £50 each including Coach.jeep and 1 night in a better hotel near the sahara.
In about another 10 years Djerba might be ready for the British but not yet.

" Having been to Tunisia mainland (Port... "

Having been to Tunisia mainland (Port El Kantaoui, Royal Kenz) twice, we were looking forward to the same high standards. How wrong we were. Everybody British we spoke to in the Airtours group that fortnight agreed with our views or experienced worse.

Two main complaints. (1) The food. Having experienced stomach upset quite early on we were wary of what to eat. When the chicken was found to be half raw! When about to eat, that put the top hat on it and the choice of what to eat became very limited.

A complaint to the Airtours rep seemed to provoke a response from the hotel manager who appeared to check food on a very regular basis from that moment on. Barbecue area food access was limited as this would sometimes be reserved for all inclusive guests (Not Airtours). Poolside bar operated all the time on this basis.

(2) Air conditioning operated intermittently, not that effectively, or not at all. Temperatures in the 40s C. Again complaints to rep brought limited response from management.

An area of beach (20 Min walk) is reserved for the Hotel, views from which are very, very limited. Snack bar cuisine is dubious here. Hot water for coffee out of a Thermos!
If you like being beside the pool throughout your holiday then this place is for you. If you like to get out and see around, then Djerba is very, very limited. We hired a car (Avis) (shed on wheels). After two days could not find anywhere to visit as we had done it all.

A complaint to Airtours when we returned simply got a reply that said you should expect food to be different when abroad. Of course you do and where possible we like to experience local food. But not health risk food. Other complaints totally ignored by Airtours.
