This is an excellent hotel if you are planning just to stay at the hotel and go nowhere else during your holiday. It is situated at the top of a hill and it is a 25 minute downhill walk to the nearest shop and even further to the nearest bar. If you plan to eat in the... more

This hotel is vast and has a magnificent entrance and bar area. We came to stay here to travel to the Volvo Masters Golf Tournament in Valderrama as the Aparthotel was not too far from the golf course. The hotel was clean and tidy. We stayed in an apartment with kitchen... more

We stayed at the Caledonia aparthotel after much searching for accommodation in mainland Spain. We were assured by the travel agent that this was a beautiful place to stay. The only positive comment about the hotel was that the rooms were nice, clean comfortable and well... more

When we eventually found the hotel, no hotel name sign on the main coast road, we were very impressed with the entrance and foyer of the hotel. The reception staff booked us into our room even though it was only 11.30am! A nice room overlooking the outdoor pool and hotel... more

The hotel itself was beautiful and the food could not fault, but it was right at the top of a long road which took about 20 mins to walk down, which then only took you to the bottom of the road and then you would have to walk another 10 mins just to get to a few shops which... more

V. poor 4 star
My son was at a football tournament in Marbella and someone definately got a back hander for making sure all the football families stayed in this place! We were miles from anywhere - needed a car ro get to the supemarket let alone somewhere to eat. The food in the hotel was grim and expensive. The staff were few and spoke no English. We had hired a car, but had to park well outside the hotel due to lack of car parking space, and my daughter has mobility problems. When I asked if we could have a late check out, the answer was, "definitely not - we are fully booked". I think the staff would have been rude if they could have been bothered. The rooms were not equipped for self catering and yet, because we were pre-season most of the bars and restaurants were closed. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - it was awful.
up and coming
after hours of searching for the hotel(as in a new development) we were pleasently surprised by the quality of the rooms and cleanliness of the hotel. Although it is 10 mins drive from anywhere it is located in a nice area which is being developed. There is a local supermarket at the bottom of the hill should you need it. The food and service at the hotel could be improved, and waiters english could be better as it is difficult to converse if your not spanish. Kids club was well organised and freindly staff, nightly entertainment was also provided. Rooms were spacious and cleaned daily. Swimming pool was nice size but freezing and in early months would benefit from being heated, but didn't stop the kids from playing. golf courses were in easy reach and lots of them. Spa area was nice and available daily. Overall a nice clean hotel in an up and coming area, lovely views of the mountains. Would stay there again.
Beautiful Hotel
Lovely hotel. Car essential as too far from bus stop or shops. Staff friendly. Food poor. Breakfasts o.k. but evening meal very poor. Veronica
very poor 4* Hotel
The worst hotel we've stayed in. A group of us spent a week at the hotel on an all inclusive basis. The hotel is lovely - nice modern rooms, spa facilities but don't be fooled it really is in the sticks and lacking in services that it needs being so far from civilization. If you don't speak spanish they won't want to know you, expect to wait along time to be served at the bar even out of peak season. The choice of food is very limited and not of the best quality, we felt as though we were eating slops most of the time and I'm not a fussy eater, love everything though this was very poor! You really will need taxi's each day to escape from this hotel which aren't cheap. Thanks to the couple of staff that worked hard to make our stay enjoyable! They really deserve to be somewhere they are appreciated! This hotel is not a good choice for golfers or anyone of any age, expecting a good quality 4* hotel ! We will never return to this part of the costa del sol. There are so many better alternatives out there.
bad location
the hotel is lovely, but so out of the way you really do need a car, not great hotel for self caterers,no kettle or toaster in the room. the bar is very expensive, not really walking distance to any alternative bars or resturaunts.
no kids no way!
First holiday with a baby so looked hard for an all inclusive hotel with an apartment. This place served our needs, the space of an apartment with the services of a hotel. On the plus side we found the staff extremely helpful but yes they needed more of them. On arrival no porter to help with the bags, first time in our lives we really need one, and he was unavailable. I think he must have been unavailable for 2 wks as I saw many other struggling with their bags. Don't expect a golf course and do hire a car, but if you want spacious clean rooms and good food then the hotel will suit. Extremely child friendly (but you cant walk to the beach) extremely friendly staff, extremely bad parking, dont bring the golf clubs (some land dispute) overall fairly good.
Sincerely, please avoid!!!
Where do I begin..... I'll start with the good points/POINT. The rooms are okay! Well that is that done! The negative points far outweigh the positives! On arrival the door to the balcony was broken, 5 phone calls later and a workman who spoke little English ( lucky I speak a little Spanish) arrived at 11.50 pm. my two young kids were worried about the broken door and all he brought was a steel bar to prop against the door!! Terrible! Door was eventually 'fixed' a day later but still was easily opened from the outside!! The door fell off one of the cupboards after 3 days and I asked for it to be fixed - still had not been fixed after we left 10 days later!! Diabolical service and if British the staff treat you with distain!! They 'pretend' to not speak much English yet seem to know exactly what you are saying when you get angry! On the staff - there are not enough staff here to cater for a true 4* hotel. this is well below 4* and I feel this hotel will loose a star in the coming year due to staff shortages and cost cutting!! I filled out a triplicate document which is sent to the Spanish Tourist Board outlining our anger and disgust at the poor service received in the hotel, I would urge others to do the same as this hotel is taking its clientelle for granted!! We travelled with Airtours Prestige, who will also be receiving a letter of complaint, and they could offer us nothing unless we wanted to pay more for a lesser hotel! All round terrible service! The brochure said the hotel was 'comfortabley off the beaten track.'! BELIEVE ME when I say it is a 20min walk each way to the neareast supermarket and if you are not young and reasonably fit and healthy it would seem like an eternity! This hotel is so peripheral it needs a regular bus service - which it is advertised as having BUT DOES NOT! It was also advertised as having a kids club for my 6 year old but this catered almost exclusively for the local Spanish clients who, it must be said, are really ignorant to all but their own kids!!! A laughable point about this hotel is that it is advertised as a golf hotel!! No golf course within walking distance and I never saw one set of clubs when I was there!!! Excuse the pun but this place is WELL BELOW PAR!! Not even a triple bogey in my books! Go for a 'ding'!!! If you are Spanish with aspirations of a 4* hotel then this place might be for you! All the false Gucci, Christian Dior, Armani etc but if you want good solid 4*/5* accommodation in future look elsewhere!! TRUST ME AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE IF FROM THE UK - all patrons I spoke to from the UK agreed! This hotel will be a good 2* or a poor 3* within 5 years as wear and tear and general service decline. Although it is NOT a 4* it charges 5* prices! If going DO NOT eat or drink in the hotel! Not only will the Spanish adults and children get served before you they charge huge prices!! 3 euros 50 cents for a dodgey large beer (not a pint, 0.4 of a litre ) The food is also hopelessly poor! We have stayed in the 5* Puente Romano and paid less for a good quality large beer!! DON'T GO NEAR THIS PLACE - as in Scooby Do.....YOU WERE WARNED!
Warning, stay away.
Do not stay at this hotel. Rubbish is collected every night for half an hour at 1am !!! They make so much noise and think nothing of throwing loads of bottles in the bottle bank underneath the apartment windows at any hour of the night. We found it really difficult being disturbed like this, especially with a 17 month old child. We complained but they did nothing, and didn't seem to care about us and our son being kept awake for hours every night. The food also is a disgrace. Small selection, nothing for veggies just burnt crisped up chips every night. Even the waiters and waitresses have a terrible attitude which really is unlike the rest of Spain. Stay away at all costs.
poor 4* hotel
I stayed at this hotel with my wife from July 30 for 2 weeks. We chose the hotel as it was new and relatively near to the beach and shops, knowing that we would need a car. Having stayed in a similar hotel in Majorca in 2004(Marriott Son Antem), we realised the vast difference between a 5*and a 4* hotel. Having stayed at the Marriott twice, we thought that another aparthotel in the middle of nowhere would provide the luxury of not having to reserve sunbeds in the middle of the night as the golfers staying there would be on the course in the morning, returning to the pool in the afternoon. Not so with the Caledonia Golf. We only saw 2 golf bags in 2 weeks as we subsequently discovered that the golf course wasn't completed and was of limited attraction and use. The hotel was packed with some Brits, lots of Germans, and Spanish at weekends. For the first 2 days, there were no sunbeds to be had after 7.45 in the morning, despite signs round the pool that it was not permitted to reserve them. Having complained to a very smiley assistant manager, a new rule was created whereby any towels found on the beds prior to 8.00 a.m. would be put into a large pile on a table next to the lifeguard. This acheived the desired effect. Other complaints with the hotel were : 1) Boring repetitive breaKfast selection including warm milk and miserable restaurant staff 2) Reluctance to change sun bed towels as they were "really only for people using the spa" 3) Reluctance to change our room towels each day as they were "only changed twice a week" 4) Poor selection of ice creams from the poolside bar - they ran out for days of the most popular ones 5) Only 1 computer available for internet access as the second one was constantly "not functioning" 6) Lack of parking spaces for guests' cars (or pay 5 euros to park underground) 7) Inability of chambermaids to clean the bathroom adequately! 8) Inability of reception staff to do anything without consulting the assistant manager/manager/director. On the upside, the Italian poolside entertainer, Itsio, was excellent, enthusiastic, and great fun. All in all, we were disappointed with the hotel as with a little effort, co-ordination, and good management practice all the above needn't have happened. I would suggest that if the hotel director reads this, you focus on pleasing your guests, bring in an experienced manager to run the hotel, and then we may consider coming back.
What a let down....
Although the rooms are fairly spacious, ours was decorated in dingy browns, mushrooms and beige colours. The bathroom was lovely and had 2 sinks. We wanted a quiet hotel, however, upon arrival through to leaving were bombarded with children, a jam packed pool complete with many childrens inflatables (which the adults used mainly!). The food at the hotel was basic but edible. We found the staff to be very helpful at the front desk. YOU MUST HIRE A CAR as there is nothing nearby. This hotel, in our opinion, is 3* and that is being kind.
